....................... dunno, i might be , ive had itnow for 6months and im starting to look at other cars on the market , ive already been in bmw to look at nearly used m5's or the new 3 series coupe , ive been to audi to try and get a test drive on a new rs4 - impossible by the way , theyll only give me a go in a bog standard a4

i think im starting to lose interest in the car i was drooling over only alf a year ago , ive stopped cleaning it by hand and just drive in to the local valet place, i dont really care where i park it nowadays , the shite interior which i was happy to live with only a short while ago -is now starting to make the zed not a very good place to sit in.

then the final straw came , i booked the car in to fix/tighten the handbrake cable-and i was excited about what car they would lend me, i knew it was going to be slower than the z , but i was still exited about driving a new car :scare::scare::scare::scare::scare::scare:

the zed was my first car ever , and i dont know if this hapens with all owners of their cars or am i just the odd one out ?!?!?

Sounds pretty normal to me. I had my first zed for 7 months and have had this one for about the same. Only 2 weeks after getting this one I was int the BMW dealer trying to get a test drive on a Z4M. If you like cars its hard to not keeping casting your eye over different ones. I'm happy enough with mine at the moment and will probably keep it for a while yet unless a business venture or kids ( :scare: ) come along to spoil it.....................

Funnly old world. Whilst at Nurburgring I was looking around. I think the Cayman S is beautiful, especially from the rear. But so is the Z. Then a professional driver (who I respect) said they dont handle as well as the Z. I thought about test driving the BMW (can I say that here? - oh yes!) Z4M until I happened to meet a guy at a filling station who was saying what a nice car my Z was and he wanted one, but because of his job at the local BMW dealership he couldn't have on. He said the Z4M might well be equal but he didn't believe it was better. RS4? Possibly, but its not RWD - Too much control in the hands of the computer. New TT? Haven't got any hair to dress!

So, after 18 months and 33k miles, the smile has dimmed just a little. Its my everyday car so I'm used to it. But when I've cleaned it and wander off on a Sunday morning the grin comes back and I cant for the life of me think of what I could replace it with that I could use every day...

Did you get a test drive? as some BMW dealers can be fussy on letting you have a test drive........They like to see if you can afford it first, though a nice sparkly zed outside should be a clue!!!!Been thinking about test driving a Z4m too.

I always wonder how dealers decide whether you can afford a car or not. It's strange.

I look all the time at different cars but I love the Z. The best thing I did was getting a burner to drive about as the Zed feels so much better and more special when you don't have to use it daily.

I've had my Zed 7 months and yes I'm starting to think about what I would like to relace it with, but probably not for about another 18 months. A mate of mine has an RS4 and whilst it's an awesome bit of kit, I don't need or want a 4 door car. Definately will consider a Cayman and possibly also the new 335 coupe sport.

I kept my last three cars for 2 years, 15 months and 18 months respectively so I know how you feel. I've now had the Zed for over 2 years which says a lot about the car. 18 months in I was getting a little restless and eyeing up the Z4 Coupe and a couple of others which is why I decided a nice zorst and some 19" wheels would keep up the interest level and get me to the 3 year mark. Seems to have worked for the moment. :teeth:

I did have a wobble (as I do each winter) when the snow came down and I asked myself why I had bought a car I can't use 365 days a year but that soon passes.

TBH I would struggle to find another car for less than £30k which ticks all the boxes as an everyday motor with style, performance and individuality.

I was suited and booted and talking about p/x ing my zed so I'm pretty sure that they knew I could afford it. The problem was that the Z4M was brand new then and getting one as a demo was near impossible. They offered me the 3.0i  and would only give it to me for a few hours :thumbdown: And they offered my £19k for my zed :thumbdown::thumbdown:

My local dealer would rather gnaw his own arm off than put a Nissan on his forecourt.

As mentioned earlier, when you're into cars as a hobby/interest it's hard not to want to try something else after a very short while. It's a bit like people that move onto the next partner when the spark's gone! Just remember - the grass isn't always greener (unless you've got endless cash that is)!

I always get bored of my Cars, 4 Cars in 4 years proves that. Ive had the Z for 4 months now & theres not a lot I would swap it for. I think that when you drive the same car everyday it does lose its appeal. I only drive mine every other week & im always smiling when driving it.

The primera that I drive every day I hate, it was nice for a few months but now I hate it & cant wait to get my new car

Very well said, Digsy.

Unlike some of you, at my age I am not so keen to start thinking about the next car quite so quickly. I bought the Z with the express intention of keeping it for a long time, based on the fact that there was not much chance of my being able to afford a better car for anything like the money I paid for it.

I noticed an Aston Martin Vantage in Glasgow the other day, and I have to admit that I would probably be tempted to swap the Z for it if I could afford it, but I would think twice about it even then. The truth is I would struggle to find the cash for a car like that anyway so the Z is a practical proposition as well as being a desirable and distinctive car to own. :D

Final point - after some of the crap cars (including Ford Escort Mk 1  , Austin Maxi, Morris Marina) I have been forced to drive over many years, due simply to lack of funds, I am delighted to be able to enjoy such a capable, high performance sports car at a reasonable cost.

I have mine for 7 months now and like it even more then I used to.

My hints for keeping the Z:

-Drive some other cars which you consider worth upgrading. Normally better to ask some friends than a dealer. You will soon discover that none of them is worth the money/fun to replace the Z.

-Add some mods to your car. I can't tell you often enough how new wheels completely change the look of your car. If normally 2/10 people were looking at your car, now it'll be 7/10.

Of course this will cost you a reasonable amount of money, but nothing compared to getting a different car!

Wait, what, you had a brand new 350z as your first car?

How old are you? Were you just slow getting into this driving lark or did your father buy your car for you or soemthing?

No disrespect but I do wonder, anyone who works hard and pays that kind of money for a car really wouldn't be bored after just 6 months.
