P1 Service question

Hi All,

Tried looking online and on search but cant find anything (which is very suprising as though tthis would have been asked a million times!) so please point me in right direction if it has

But i had my p3 service done before i bought the car about 1 year ago, i have only done about 4k miles in it, but i thought for the sake of keeping the log book up to date i would get it done (its now been about 1 year and 3 months)

I wasnt going to take it to a stealler but to a local garage who i know and trust, however was wanting to know what is involved in a p1 service (45k miles)

Also another quick question is the car has always been done at Nissan stealers but im wondering am i going to devalue the car by getting it done at a local garage...from past experiance i have always done at a stealer but with my last car i dont think it actually made a difference at all when i came to sell...

Thoughts?

Would it put you off buying a car if it was not serviced at the stealer? It never put me off, as I'm sure most people are aware that the same job is being done at the end of the day. P1 = oil change and basic inspection if I'm correct?

I dont think you'd lose any money, end of the day its been Nissan serviced for a few years, as long as its all up to date.

Had a P2 done to mine today at Japex, I thought should i go Nissan but i hear there not that great anyway. And Japex is well known with 350z's on here. Seems like they did a good job.

When it comes to servicing i begrudge spending all this money. As i can do everything they do, but all because of a stamp in a book i have to pay extra :(

Half the cost of a service is the inspection, of which i knew everything that was possibly needed on my car. Which made that pointless too.

Oh well. Just get it done at the garage, as long as there a good reputable garage i think you should be fine.

Mines in for a P1 today, but with my regular mechanic...not Nissan!

Nissan in Grantham don't have a great reputation, and if they're anything like Toyota over here (or come to think of it - most businesses here), they have a constant turnaround of staff. Rather than have some inexperienced youth working on my car, I'd rather it be done with someone I trust.

I supplied Oil & Oil Filter, then asked him to look through my old service slips to see what's checked in a P1. Simple!

(its now been about 1 year and 3 months)

:scare: Should be at least every 12 months or 9000 miles, whichever comes first!

at 12 months i had only done about 2k miles, would have been completly pointless i would have thought.

Also not like it hasnt been seen and looked after. And had it down for new tires etc they did a look over it about 12 months in.

So not worried

no cambelt on a 350Z .....

How bizzare defo says on my manual in small print top right to do at 5 years or "exspensive repairs may be nessasary"

Shows my lack of knowlege and noob skills! But i do learn something new everyday!

So sparks though are a yes?

Spark plugs are at 54k miles or 5 years....mine's almost at 5 years but I'm going to do them in the next week or so. I'd say do them if you're anywhere between 4-5 years just for peace of mind.

So just looked in book and it recons that at 5 years which for mine will be sept you need to do cambelt and spark plugs...

Now what do people recon?

The Nissan warranty and maintenance record booklet is designed to cover all Nissan vehicles.

Refer to page 17

As the guys have said there is no cam belt as the VQ35DE is chain driven and it is not a servicable item. Another item that the booklet refers to is the replacement of the fuel filter, again this is not applicable to the 350Z.

Swop out your plugs and brake fluid though and perhaps the serpentine and PAS belts as well

I think that a Nissan Service stamp would actually mean less in the case of the Zed.

We all know of the stories, like mounting wheels back to front, charging for non existing pollen filters, scratching bodywork, etc. etc.....

They should stick to what they know and service the Micras and Almeras and the odd Quashqai.

If you do decide to sell, just point out why you decided to go to an independant specialist with experience working on a Zed and I'm sure they'll understand.

OK cool thanks for the heads up, so just for a comprhensive list i can give them to make sure they check it is:

Swop out Spark plugs

Oil change

Brake fluid

Serpentine and pas belts...?

Then general checks as stated in guide as well as ask for gear box oil check, and other standard checks.

Also what do you recon on cost? I was quoted about £80 for oil change and inspection but how much more should i be looking for spark plugs and changing break fluid and possibly sperpentine and pas belts?

Just so i have a rough idea, and dont go in expecting it to be £120 but it being £300 after i ask for all this!

Plugs are usually around the £80-100 mark. Brake fluid and belts shouldn't be much more than another £50 or so, so you're probably looking at around £220 all in  Anything less than that and you've got a good deal. Get your belts off Zmanalex beforehand

Cool well called garage, they said they will have a look at everything recommended above, and keep me posted on what they recomend getting changed/ (because im doing such low millage whethere it is worth leaving for a bit then getting done in a few months time)

They said spark will defo be more then likely worth doing and they replace like for like.

Belts they said they will check and see if they think they need doing and keep me posted.

Gearbox oil - they said they can check and recommend or not.

Thank you all for the advice! as always very helpfull!
