Very warm Hello and question

Howya all goin :)

Ive been sitting here day and night for about a week now lol, of course due to the fact that in a few days/weeks Ill become a proud owner of the Zed :D

Im already making the list of mods which will be going in (and boy, is that list long already) and some are very close to ordering, but being a complete 350 noob I have few questions and would ask if you could kindly clarify as if I was slow ;)

Im looking to buy an earlier model, 05 reg, so I believe DE, not HR engine. Now I understand that uprev is only available to the newer model but here I got confused: ENVY sells Motordyne MREV2 Manifold but they say 'We recommend this only for 296hp "Revup" engines and not the earlier vehicles'. However on Motordyne website they say 'A universal manifold modification for use on any VQ35-DE engine.' Please correct me if I get it totally wrong, but will I be able to have a revup with this manifold AND plenum spacers? If so, would you advise 1/2" or 5/16"? I know 1/2" doesnt fit under OEM strut, but thats going to be replaced as well.

Thanks :teeth:

Now i do know that most people here have gone for the 5/16" but that makes me curious why that one and not the 1/2"?

Becuase the 1/2" doesnt fit under the standard strut bar, the 5/16" with some washers can fit under the standard strut. Also the gains of going from 5/16" to 1/2" are very minimal if all other things are kept equal.

:welcome: btw

Hi Austin,

I've got the Revup (296) engine with the MREV2 and a 5/16ths spacer and can highly recommend them for this engine. If you get the earlier DE engine then you will only need the spacer.

If you do go for the Revup engine and the MREV2 and spacer combination the be aware that you will gain in the mid range at the expense of top end power. However, I would strongly recommend you get a remap done if you go with the MREV2 and spacer as this will give you back the top end and give you further improvement throughout the entire range.

Hope that helps :)

Awesome, thanks guys, especially Introspect.

The reason I want to buy the DE model is because of the road tax and insurance. I checked premiums and 05 Zeds seem to be the last ones with a 'reasonable' premium of just under £3k. Now, don't gasp ;) for my first year of ownership of Volvo c30 t5 i paid just over £5k. Im 23, live in london, 5 years NCB (but no one wanted to transfer it from aus so effectively i now have only 1 year NCB), never had a scratch regardless of fault. Sigh, oh well, what can I do hey. :)

Cant wait to get the Zed already! Its a fun little thing to drive.
