cfoster Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Had a day off today to sort a few bits out and thought i'd make a start on the roof!! Been signwriting for years but never really been into the vinyl wrapping stuff so thought i'd give it a go! I'm using the 3m Di Noc vinyl. Roof is now completed and very happy with the result, took about an hour and a half and there no stretches on the weave either!! Few pics below!! Not sure what part to do next, sides should be ok to do, just a bit worried about the bonnet as its massive!!!! Attempted the mirror quickly but got bored and ended up making a mess of it!! Aiming to get the whole car wrapped before Le Mans in June! Chris Quote
JT1703 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I like Pretty impressive that you did it yourself in only 90 mins Quote
MITZ@CougarStore Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Good start, looking forward to seeing the rest… Quote
maz0 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 How much do you expect it will cost you all in? I thought this stuff was pretty expensive! Quote
Chris`I Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Good work Chris I know who to come to when I want some of my bits wrapping in the future Quote
rtbiscuit Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Flat panels are nice and easy, complex curves are a pig. i tried the wing mirrors and gave up in the end, was a troll of a job roof looks good Quote
srobrien Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Wow looks really nice, how much did it cost for that size? R Quote
cfoster Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 cheers chaps, wel happy with the end result so far! Maz0 - in all vinyl cost wise i reckon around £500 ish for the whole car plus my time which who knows how longs its going to take!! rtbiscuit - definitely right mate, the mirrors are a bitch! Done one of them perfectly but didnt realise the glass sits right in the casing so you can see the end of the vinyl inside the mirror. Think i've mastered it though but me fingers got sore so gave up with that! Roof wasnt too bad to do, the curves towards the front outer corners and deeper than it looks to begin with though but hardly had to heat it up to get it to settle! srobrien - not surely exactly for the cost of that bit as I bought a 10 metre roll!! srobrien Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Holy crap thats a lot of vinyl!! What measurement is the roof? R Quote
cfoster Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Holy crap thats a lot of vinyl!!What measurement is the roof? R I thnk the roof is about 1 metre by 1.4 off the top of my head! Quote
Adriank Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I have got some to try myself aswell, but i can see it being a nightmare, ill just build up to using it slowly i think! If anyone wants to write a guide on how to do the mirrors step by step, thatwould be great. Quote
Zednick666 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Wow that looks good, well done I feel a 'how to' guide coming on...? Quote
Andy Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Cracking job there, this stuff can be a pain to work with sometimes but sounds like you have experience with vinyl and it shows Am still very tempted to do my Z in it as well Quote
cfoster Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 A guide would be a very good thing to do / have but so many signwriters have different techniques for doing it, remember it is a trade as well so some people may struggle to achieve what they want (for example I am @*!# at woodwork so wouldnt attempt to cut a bit of wood in a straight line, i'd leave it to those who know!!!!). Bonnet next I think, then front wings and doors!! Quote
alessandro Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Great job you've done there If you have some spare time and want some extra cash let me know Quote
Pimm Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Looking really good. Can you take another picture of your car a little further away as I was thinking of getting just my roof done aswell Quote
cfoster Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 No worries, will take a pic tomorrow in the daylight! Chris Quote
rsj Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Looking good! A set of carbon style door kick plates would compliment this very well viewtopic.php?f=32&t=32787 Quote
bhavin85 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 from what ive heard and seen as long as you take your time and dont over heat the vinyl you should be able to cover most curved parts...however that was just normal vinyl...this has the carbon weave so you can tell where its been stretched fairly easily so thats some very good work Quote
GT4 Zed Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Good work mate I can't wait to see you do the whole car for le Mans Quote
