Gauging interest for group buy Haltech ECU install

This is in the making. More details to be finalised if this generates enough interest.

 

What we are getting

Haltech ECU

Installation

Mapping (dyno time)

 

For £1300 all in

 

The catch:

We have to get 20 cars to get that price.

 

 

First of all, members feed back on the price and further info required would be appreciated.

Second, we can start a list of genuinely interested members following further discussion.

I think you may find that djtimodj tried to do this recently and got about 1 yes!

 

Personnaly I think its a bit strong at £1300 for a group buy and 20 cars..... You got 2 hopes and ones called Bob!! The price he was quoted was £1400 and he needed 3 cars to get a decent discount......

 

Out of interest what returns are you hoping to see for £1300?

Theres just not a lot of call for it at those prices for the people that plan to stay N/A. Both Tim & me have future FI plans so its something that will be needed sooner or later

 

I don't get this approach at all. The ECU and FI setup are so vital to the health of your Z

 

Why not just wait till its FI time? and get a complete bundle with a warranty .?

How would you feel if you turned up a year after having you Haltech done

to pickup your newly Fi'd zed. to be told "sorry, the haltech doesn't do the job properly!"?

 

If you are planning to go the FI route,....

You HAVE to get both done at the same time, by the same tuner.

No satisfaction, NO PAY! or a free return to stock :thumbs:

Theres just not a lot of call for it at those prices for the people that plan to stay N/A. Both Tim & me have future FI plans so its something that will be needed sooner or later

How would you feel if you turned up a year after having you Haltech done

to pickup your newly Fi'd zed. to be told "sorry, the haltech doesn't do the job properly!"?

I just feel ( 11.5 months into my warranty period) that you can get into a real mess with this approach

 

maybe best to have this conversation in Wales rather than on the forum.... :thumbs:

Unfortunately I have to agree with the others. For £1300 you will only interest those wanting to go FI in the future, and also who have tuners who will use the Haltech (admittedly not many wont). For me I want a nice basic piggy back that is cheaper that can unleash a bit more mid range torque more than anything.

Most important question is who's doing the tuning? I have no problems with that price at all (and I'm staying N/A), but if I'm paying that sort of cash I want it to be with someone with a proven background.

 

Also, which Haltech are we talking about here?

+1 on the above questions. Andlid got the Haltech Platinum fitted and tuned for £1500 I think (sorry if I'm wrong but that's the figure in my head). Would need to be a good tuner and a decent version of the Haltech for me personally.

 

Never get 20 people tho. Esp considering a trader is promising to start re-flashing the stock ECU soon. . .

reading previous threads I couldn't find a match for the price. If you guys think its not good enough then we might have to negotiate further but from what I see it seems like a very good price (correct me if I am wrong guys and girls).

I don't think the price is bad. I think trying to find 20 cars will be impossible. As I said, 3-5 maybe and it'd be a goer.

That sounds about right :snack: Would be more £ today though :lol:

 

Haltech all the way is what I recon, hard to find tuners that know what they are doing with the unit though.

 

What Haltech unit are you talking about in the gb though? They got two for the Z and one is much cheaper then the platinum kit... I'd talk to the guys in Haltech to see if the tuner in question is capable (known by them) to do good tunes with the Haltech ECU. The support from the Haltech staff is pretty solid!

On this note... I'm strongly considering upping my injectors and possibly pump to run my yoke on E85 :drive1

Well priced so :thumbs: Even with a base tune my went from 265 (fly) to 300 (fly) so if you could option out on the actual tune and have a price maybe for the ECU only and one with tune? (since tune is more soft cost then hard cost)

Would be cool to have it running over 1 weekend... some meet 20 pre and after dyno's of da Z'z...

Had some issues allright (think it was the tune more then the unit...)

It comes with base haltech map from the downloadable software + manual, and they release firmware upgrades now and then thats easy to apply. The latest software can deal with O2 settings, the old one couldn't as far as I remember.

Currently looking into a RON 95 retune and a E85 tune. You can easliy swap within the Windows GUI. (was/is tuned with E5 from Maxol)

 

Pengu would also have one and might have other input.

As I've mentioned in other threads, I bought the Haltech Platinum and a vortech tuner kit.

My tuner was ecstatic about the ECU, in his own words, it's the best ECU for this car, bar none.

It can handle FI greater than any piggyback could, especially if you're going for high HP.

 

It's got features that the other big player (aka FCON V Pro) doesn't offer. I can't be arsed to do a head to head comparison, but you can do some research and figure it out for yourself. I searched around for a few weeks, asked a few tuners and they all suggested this ECU over any other currently on the market.

This might sound stupid, but I was initially interested in the FCON. So I called a few dealers to get quotes etc. One of them even suggested I went with the Haltech. He was an HKS dealer, mind!

 

Many US cars run them and the results have proven fantastic.

 

Me, I think it might be overkill for a N/A application. A piggyback can probably offer all that a Haltech can at half the price. But for a serious N/A build or any FI application, you won't find a better ECU out there currently.
