GodISmE Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) Guys, what do you think of this!? Just noticed it today. I bought them new last year (268/35/18) Edited March 16, 2017 by GodISmE Quote
JeZed Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Looks like a warranty job to me - unless you've run them flat or something else that's caused the damage. Looks like the tread is separating from the carcass ? Quote

GodISmE Posted March 16, 2017 Author Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) It's only on the inside wall! All the way around. Normal pressure used and only 4 track days! I think they're DOT..14, need to double check. Edited March 16, 2017 by GodISmE Quote
Jay84 Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Not good ! What's the date of manufacture ? There should be a 4 digit dot code stamped on the side. Usually under inflation scrubs the wall, that looks like age. Quote

GodISmE Posted March 16, 2017 Author Posted March 16, 2017 Does that mean I can't go to a track day this Sunday!?! I already booked it Quote
GMballistic Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Does that mean I can't go to a track day this Sunday!?! I already booked it Personally I wouldn't risk it, ...if that thing goes it could easily cause a big accident. Best option imo is to bite the bullet and change both rear tyres tomorrow or Saturday. That way you'll be able to do the track day safely and return the dangerous tyre to Avon or where you bought it under warranty. The other rear tyre if it's still good just put it on eBay or keep it as a spare. Quote
Aashenfox Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 That could've been nasty. This. Wow. It is believed that this kind of separation is exactly how this happened a couple of weeks ago over here... http://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2017/02/27/shocking-accident-with-porsche-out-of-control-four-dead-video/ Quote

GodISmE Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 I know, I know ... definitely returning them under warranty! I read somewhere that they refund a value of the tire depending on how much tread is left, true? Quote
Ekona Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Possibly, but given that's at least three months old it's unlikely. They may send it off to prove the failure reason, but that may take some time: For all they now it's you that caused that. Quote
Jay84 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 2 years manufacturers gntee if it's down to a manufacturing defect. Quote
Ekona Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 If you can prove it's them. Given he's used them after a number of months, that's not easy to do. Quote
Jay84 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Yeah and funnily enough it always goes to manufacturer for testing rather than a 3rd body. The problem is the manufacturer could say things like excess lateral movement, high speed collision with a kerb, I've even seen premature perishing between treads blamed on the antifreeze mixed in with tick salts used on roads in winter. But you need new tyres wHethersett you get your money back or not, do gotta be worth trying. Quote
