Can I buy and take delivery of a new car now and register it myself 01 March 2017 ?

How do you go about registering the car if you can do this ?

A good friend of mine bought a new motorbike unregistered , raced it for a year and then registered it on the later year plate.

Nope, only the person/company who made the plate. It's only an MOT thing, no law against not having it.

Yes, you're right, a quick check reveals that vehicles registered after September 2001 must have the suppliers name on the plate to pass the MOT. It would seem that you can't get number plates made up these days without the makers/dealers name ...........well not legally anyway :)
