After some opinions

I've just unwrapped and offered these parts up to the car (rear spoiler and rear bumper) and they don't fit, I understand obviously that fettling is usually required but is this a bit much? Or is it the bodyshops fault saying that they are unable to do the task?

Were they made by a blind one armed ferret on work experience on a Friday afternoon?

That's utterly shocking. Send 'em back and ask for either parts that have half a chance at fitting, or a refund. A little bit of massaging isn't out of the question, but those parts aren't even in the same postcode as the car.

Hi Olly,

from the photos posted looks like APM is the "bodyshop" you're mentioning. Looking at their website here: http://apmcustoms.co.uk doesn't look like they are a bodyshop / specialist place, but a car wrapping place?

A bodyshop shouldn't have trouble making replica body kits / parts like the ones in the photos fit perfectly. Did the seller say they are straight fit out of the box or some work / preparation is required? If they did say it will be a straight fit, then speak to the seller and ask for replacement or refund.

Oh mate you didn't end up going for that ebay crap you were looking at did you!

I told you to speak to Tarmacsports.

Unless your bodyshop has the sculpturing craft of Michaelangelo I'd be inclined to agree with them. That ain't happening.

I had someone else come out who runs a body shop to see whether he would take on the job, not apm, that's just where my car is getting wrapped and the parts were getting fitted (the simple ones). The person from the body shop didn't want to touch it, he said it has been an old mould so the part over years has just gotten smaller and smaller. I am just posting in here asking for opinions before anything else proceeds, I understand that fettling is always going to be required, but wondering where the line is.

Got it, I thought APM is the bodyshop, hence why I've asked.

Looking at this photo:

it appears that the bumper is moved / push to the left as you look from the rear, hence why it's creating a bit of a gap? Has it been adjusted properly when they've taken the photos?

Same for the rear spoiler, to me it looks like it hasn't been arranged where it should actually be, a little bit lower? Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, sorry!

The spoiler actually has a complete bow in it which doesn't match the cars shape, which would have been fine if the base of it was solid because we could just fettle it to suit, but it's hollow so we can't even take anything more, and with the bumper, we've tried it both ways, which-ever way we get flush with the rear-quarters panel, the other side is miles off, we tried every angle without putting too much pressure on it :( thankyou though! :)

+1 - guess you get what you pay for?

They were bought from a forum trader so I assumed they would be of at least a reasonable quality. It wasn't just a cheap buy either, I did spend quite a few bob!

The genuine Chargespeed Type 2 rear bumper alone is $1k plus shipping and import tax etc. For that price it is bang on with a perfect fit. So IMO unless you spend even close to this then you are going to need to make modifications, By the time you are done you could have spent close to the price of the genuine one. Not sure on the price of the wing but the principal is the same. You do get what you pay for with any kind of body work whether its body panels/parts or paintwork.

Hopefully you can either get your money back for the inferior parts or get it to sit poperly

Yes I understand the price of the genuine, which is sooo annoying as I've wanted this bumper ever since I can remember. I do understand that everything will need fitting/fettling/filling, as you said it's not a genuine fit. But I'm only after an opinion whether this is the parts at fault, or whether it's the bodyshops that won't take it on. Thanks for the reply :)

Sorry mate, didn't mean that comment to sound snobby or anything. Before I got my Zed I was looking at kits and the Chargespeed type 2 was the one I wanted. The entire kit is over $2.5k plus shipping and import duty and tax etc so trust me if mine didnt have it on already I wouldnt have paid that amount and wouldve gone for cheaper copies and I would now be in the same position as you. I believe it is the parts at fault but I also know one or 2 bodyshops that will fit anything to anything and do it happily and to a fantastic standard. They do of course take their time over it to make sure anything looks as factory as possible including the paint finish. This of course costs alot more than just banging it on and whacking some paint on as you are paying for their time.

I also have to apologise for sounding so defensive, I was a bit grumpy and upset about it all yesterday as it's getting wrapped without them :(. But yeah I understand, I took the plunge, and it came back and bit me.

All I say, is if the trader is being difficult, get the mods involved, it's what they're here for.

Those look like Stevie Wonder made them with his feet, you'd need shares in bodyfiller and fibreglass to make those fit properly.

Occasionally body parts do come out warped or with imperfections, you'd just hope that the seller would have a test rig to throw the parts on to. I did wonder if it was another Knight Racer special, but they're not a trader on here, so I guess not.
