The last few years have hardly been normal circumstances though, for example the FTSE 100 was at 6500 ish in 2008, dropping to 3500 in 2009 and is now back up to around 6000. I'd be very cautious about planning investments on the gains you've made recently.
Wise words. The reason I started was because of the crash and I guessed that there would be this sharp rise. Strategy will change later this year and move to less risky stocks.

Both can be held in an ISA (tax free) and both due big news in Q1. XEL waiting for 3rd party confirmation on just how BIG their recent North Sea oil find was and RRL have a lot of news due from multi sites worldwide.
I also hold AEX, CAZA, CRND, GKP and XTR.
I put a nice sum in RRL as you know Captain and nearly double my money, but I am holding until the big catch and my other company is doing very well but it is a long term thing.....
