  1. Bedford's okay but a bit featureless, and the 3 or 4 consecutive hairpins near the end get very tiresome very quickly. They're also strict as buggery on noise there now, and I'd expect anything other than a stock exhaust to fail the drive-by tests easily. Tbh I don't mind travelling for track days at all, makes it more fun if you can make a weekend of it with a few mates.
  2. Do it, and you could get awesome shots like this too: £20 for a CD full of them from the photographer guy that was there today. There's a still a few places left at Anglesey via BookaTrack for the 25th of October if you guys are interested. I'll be there along with a load of mates from MR2-ROC, and there's a couple of them who have never tracked before. 12m wide track with a beautiful surface so best of both worlds really.
  3. Everyone starts someone matey, and I can guarantee that there won't be a track day you could go to where you'd be the only newbie there. Promise. An airfield day is the way to go, loads of run off and nothing to hit. Elvington in York was my first one, and it's definitely a place I'd recommend for those just starting out. Keevil's really nice too, but that's a bit further from you. Everyone should do one at least once, as it's simply what performance cars are made for these days seeing as how even looking at 71mph on the speedo is probably classed as an offence.
  4. Just thought I'd pop this up here, having been there today for a track day. Never been to Woodbridge before or done a day with Javelin (the TDO) either, so was a little unsure of what to expect. The airfield is within a still-in-use RAF base about 10 mins outside of Ipswich, but isn't particularly near anything else to annoy anyone, which is good. The surface is quite abrasive (not quite Elvington, but you get the idea) so is hard on tyres and the level of the ground fluctuates a fair bit too, and there's on particular part that if you follow the racing line, you'll be sent up in the air a tad, so I simply backed off a smidge and took it where it was flatter. It's arguably quicker that way, too. The track layout was all cones as you'd expect, but was well done and there was never any doubt as to where you'd go next. At 2 miles long it's not exactly a short track, but that does mean that you don't need a whole lap as a cooldown one, half is sufficient. At first it seems a bit basic, and certainly the first half of the circuit is quite fast and open (perfect for going sideways ) but the back end of the track is surprisingly technical, and I never managed to get the line perfect on two consecutive laps (indeed, I never got the last corner right at all!). Given that this was my first track day in the Zed, and my first in a FR car (all my 10+ others have been in mid-engined cars), and my first few laps were bloody awful as I simply couldn't get any kind of rhythm going with the car at all, I decided to treat myself to 20 mins of tuition. I've never had tuition before, preferring to learn things my own way, but I was so messy I really did need it. The ARDS instructor there was a nice old boy called John, and I have to say I was very impressed with him. Very supportive, very methodical in his teaching but without being patronising, and he improved my driving no end. Well worth doing if you feel unsure at all, and it won't put me off getting instruction again, either at Woodbridge with Javelin or elsewhere. All the Javelin staff were really friendly and courteous, and very laid back too which made for a really relaxing yet fun day. I'd say they were probably the best TDO I've ever been with, which is praise indeed seeing as I think I've been with most of them now! So what about the Zed? Well, she did us both proud in a wobbly amateurish way! I was never in any danger of breaking any lap records but it was surprising just how well she held up. I left the TC on for the morning and the first half of the afternoon as I was a bit concerned about tyre wear, but had it fully off for the last run out and, despite the power available and shifting the weight as much as I dared and not being on exactly great tyres (RE040s), it proved a challenge to get the arse to step out at all: There's an immense amount of mechanical grip there, and the chassis is always working with you. I can imagine the coupe would be much more solid and a real handful for most otehr cars this side of an Elise. Oh, and with the bungs in the ESR exhaust I measured 85 dB and 98dB without but with spikes of up to 105dB when I lifted, so for that reason I left them in all day as the limit at Woodbridge is 102dB. On better tyres and a better surface, I honestly think Slagathor will be seriously impressive at Anglesey which I do next month. Well worth the £120 it cost me, and I'll definitely go back.

Top man is our Mike, cheers matey!
  6. I'd be telling anyone that stopped me in that park and asked me what I was doing in no uncertain terms to go forth and fornicate. It really does wind me up when you hear things like this.
  7. You can do that here too, just click the radio button under the 'Display results as' option in the search area. Tbh phpBB searches aren't the easiest of things to use at times, but then it takes a while to know how to use Google to your advantage as well so it's one of those things. Clicking the 'search for all terms' button makes a world of difference to what results you receive back for starters.
  8. But there in lies the problem: As soon as someone else asks a question about 'best shampoo', then that's 71 threads to trawl through. And then someone else asks, so that's 72 for the next person, and so on and so forth. By not using the search you then make it more difficult for the next person who does make the effort to use it. Besides, 70 posts really isn't that much to go through: You can scan the results and see pretty quickly if it's relevant to you. There's a difference between searching and not being able to find the info you wanted and not searching at all: One is understandable and, by mentioning what you searched for, people can guide you for the next time, and the other is just about as lazy as you can get and quickly fills a forum full of wasted threads. Whilst everyone needs a bit of help sometimes, to be expected to be spoon fed every little thing shows a certain amount of contempt for your fellow owners IMHO.
  9. Don't get a blue one, I've got one and you'll curse me! You basically want enough money to go out and buy exactly the same car you've got now, which is why you need to see what's out there and what other people are asking for theirs.
  10. Clicky Yup, they've gone pop. They just can't keep up with all the cheap (both in terms of cost and quality) Chinese knock-offs that people buy instead allegedly, and there's rumours that they're not the only company in trouble. Sad times to be a Jap car enthusiast
  11. *takes note* You won't be thanking me when we lose
  12. The best thing you can do at this point is trawl your way through the PH classifieds and Autotrader, and find similar cars. Bearing in mind you'll totally have to ignore the mods, just find a few good examples of cars like yours and the prices. Put all this together in a file and send it via recorded delivery to the insurers and prepare to start haggling. What happened BTW? You ok?
  13. Have you got like-for-like cover on the mods? If not, then they'll just give you the price of a totally standard car. Apologies if I'm telling you something you've already sorted.
  14. http://streamwebtown.com/cora1 Drop that into your favourite media player and watch the game for gratis. There are better streams, but this one works and appears to be pretty stable right now.
  15. The V6 tone. The roadster is quite an ugly car, but you can hear the engine note perfectly when you drop the roof and that makes up for it. I guess the only other thing that attracted me to the Zed was the price, as it's ridiculous when you look at what you get.
  16. I know, that's probably most of the reason I considered it to be the time to really learn my lesson. The points have expired now, but I still stick to the speed limits as it makes for a much more relaxed drive. That doesn't mean that I don't accelerate like buggery up to the speed limit though
  17. I got 3pts and £60 for 107mph on the A12 (and that was an average over 1/4 mile!). Really decent coppers that pulled me over though, they were stern enough with me that I've learnt my lesson but not patronising and with the common sense to realise that I was doing that in perfect conditions on a straight bit of road. No excuses though, it was bloody stupid and I was an idiot back then. I save it all for the track now.
  18. "I've got copies of those photos of you and Max Mosley together" ?
  19. 33mpg? Where can I get one of those diesel Zeds?
  20. You can bet your ass it will. Tbh I'm not surprised as it makes sense to do it on your premium models that people will buy regardless than on the lower price ones where's there's plenty of competition.
  21. That's very old news (check the date in the article!), and I'm never going to try it. Besides which, they've now brought (or are in the process of bringing out) a newer SPECS which catches you regardless.
  22. The trouble I have with Setanta is that the whole reason they ended up with the England and Premiership games is that the European Commission decided that Sky having all the games was too close to a monopoly, and they don't like those so ordered them to split the packages up. Now, instead of just paying for Sky and getting all the England games included, I have to pay more monies instead. Nice one EU busybodies, that worked out really well
  23. Right, gotcha. Why didn't Nissan just make one type and leave the bloody thing alone!
