  1. When the synchro presses against the gear it needs friction to speed it up or slow it down to match the speed of the gear. The sleeve and teeth can't lock if the speed isn't close enough. Personally I only ever put in OE / OE spec oil into a gearbox, but I've heard of people using 10W-40 engine oil on old gearboxes.
  2. I use a CTEK battery conditioner when the car's parked in the garage. Optima red top AGM battery, been fine so far.
  3. 370z is an evolution of the 350z rather than a different car. JMHO 350z is old school, mechanical, raw,...370z is a bit more refined, bit more power, track little wider wheelbase little shorter, so probably a bit sharper, although 99% of road driving you'd struggle to tell a difference. I've seen some stunning builds of both. I'd be happy with either. I'd say focus on a solid, well maintained, rust free, well loved example. I buy a lot from Torqen never had any problems, decent guys; Tarmac Sportz also has a good reputation. I also buy parts online from the US, Japan etc. There is a huge zed sceen in the US. I run an Infinity exhaust, fits well, great tone, not obnoxious.
  4. That budget gets you either. They are fun, raw, low tech, decent power (can make big power) Totally opposite to your EV. Easy to work on, reliable, parts readily available. Make great project cars. I've noticed the price of decent 350z is slowly starting to rise now. Most comparable probably a Toyota GR86 / Subaru BRZ with a hint of Ford Mustang.
  5. What's your budget?
  6. Genuinely not sure. The carbon bonnet has threaded inserts and the three OE latches are solid enough. But at 80-90 (on a track obviously 😉) you can see the bonnet starting to deflect upwards. Not unusual for carbon. I guess its a case of have them and not need them over need them and not have them. I bought some aero catches, and also bought push button which will probably be easier and discreet 32mm Push Button Release Latch Pair – Car Builder Solutions

    Zouthern Meet

When you've got a plan I'll post it on the SW Zeds facebook group, there are a few in Wiltshire/Yeovil way on there
  8. Zociety is a US brand selling parts and clothing for all zeds. I'm guessing they have expanded into Europe/UK I noticed they have arranged club stands at a lot of shows this year and posted it a month or so ago in another thread I have no connection with zociety in any way, but people are often commenting about not having club stands anywhere! I bought a ticket for JD Coombe, and probably going to buy for Japfest Classic
  9. I'm still trying to summon up courage to cut holes in my carbon bonnet for secondary latches.... 🤣
  10. Took this at Refuel Cullompton on Friday night. Next Sunday theme is JDM v German if anyone in the S/SW is interested in a meet.
  11. Castle Coombe is a club stand, hosted by Zociety
  12. I'm near Taunton, SW. As long as it's not unreasonable drive I'm up for any south / south west meets.
  13. Have you booked Castle Coombe JDM action day? I'm a maybe for Japfest Classic at Goodwood in Oct 3rd Also Sunday 2nd August Haynes Museum near Yeovil have JDM theme for the breakfast meet, quite a few z's often attend Couple of groups might be useful to you: ALL ZEDS SW | Facebook Zociety UK | Facebook
  14. Don't over think it, 'run what ya brung' and have fun
  15. He doesn't want OE wings, he doesn't want used, and he doesn't want aftermarket. What else is there?
  16. Aren't there bumps and holes and things for the park brake mechanism on the shields?
  17. I see Zociety are hosting club stands at quit a few places this year if anyone is interested. JDM Coombe are available on the circuit web site, club code is ZOCIETYJDM26
  18. Small mod, front and rear chrome and carbon effect badges from z1 store
  19. Cataclean by itself no I never found it to be an MOT fix on any car. I guess everyone has to find what works for them, but the combination that works for me (so far) is cobra HFCs, Radium oil catch cans (vapour reduces octane which reduces burn efficiency therefore increases CO and HC), and a drop of Wynns pre MOT cleaner and a good blast the week before.
  20. From the symptoms (not self centering) I would have said it was likely either the rack binding, suspension geometry/alignment, or ball joints/friction. Doubtful the pump had anything to do with it, unless the steering is heavy, noisy, or the fluid is foamy. I'm surprised the garage were not able to diagnose it - if you lift the car up in the air and the problem goes away (the weight is off the suspension) its more likely suspension issue, and its still the same its likely the rack or ball joints/friction. Too many garages just don't follow logical cause condition confirm diagnosis these days.
  21. Atmospheric shot, I asked copilot to stick a photo of my car to an urban background!
  22. Finished the airlift today, very happy with the results. Car needs a vacuum! I've played around with different ways to isolate the compressor vibration and what I've found works best is double isolation, and adding dead sheet to the wheel well: (waiting for the airlift isolators but I've temporarily used some soft springs to prove it)
  23. There are 30+ 350z for sale on autotrader right now. Not sure why you'd choose to go to the trouble and cost of converting a convertable to a coupe, just buy a coupe. But sure it could be done, anything can be done with enough patience, time and money.
  24. Welcome, there is a wealth of information here to help you
