Sure there was a thread about a product that dissolves metal specks from paint etc. All I can remember is that it stunk and might have been called iron*****. Someone might remember.

It should not screw off , it's a conical spline. Protect your paint work with cloths. Place something (bit of thin wood/plastic) on the cloth and prise it up with a none sharp length of something. I used a large screw driver (placed on wood as a fulcrum) and was very very carefull. The alloys will have corroded together. Sorry for all the somethings, but you get my drift.
