  1. Ah sorry dude, didnt mean to teach you how to suck eggs I think bigger is better (looking at the japanese and world time attack cars) but as i say, simom Mcbeath said past 100mm and you need rear stuff as well. I know the amwrican guys whove done this sort of thing started struggling with bottoming out due to the downforce overcoming thwir spring rate too much. Sasha Anis is on 20/17kg springs!
  2. There is The idea is to allow a smooth path under the car so the air travels as quickly as possible, fast air is lower pressure than slow air. On top of that you trap air ontop of the splitter creating a high pressure zone, this pressure difference between the topside and underside of the splitter creates downforce. Simon Mcbeath suggested in his book 100mm in front of the bumper works well, past that and it starts reducing rear downforce and you need rear aero to counter it. I am planning to go bigger but have gone for this to test it all and also to test it with the wing and see if i have spare capacity in the wing to go for a bigger splitter An airdam between the bunper lip and splitter just stops the air going between the two and reducing the pressure. Side fences increase the effectiveness of the splittef in the same way end plates on a spoiler do
  3. Making steady progress with the splitter! Splitter by ben taylor, on Flickr Splitter by ben taylor, on Flickr Just the air dam and side fences to sort now and its done! Whilst in behind the bumper Ive also removed the headlight washer bottle and lines, just have to work out how they come out the bumper and can blank those off. Hopefully soon some wing updates with pics but the core is currently being cut. Gone with the same aerofoil as the 997 GT Cup racers, Its going to be BIG though, 70inches with a 12inch chord
  4. Oh yeha the stoxk distribution wasnt bad, just the overall weight and then the geometry makes them feel more lardy than they are imo
  5. Afaik 53/47 is what they were stock but obviously bits on and bits off, and ypu can move away from this.
  6. Yeah Mark have Adjustable drop links etc. I think there gonna disconnect the roll bars set up and then adjust the drop links to match. I think I'm just gonna get cross weights correct as I know you can't really adjust the front rear set up etc. Mark do you have any idea on best rake angle for 350z's?? There using 100KG ballast in the driver seat (I'm looking to lose weight lol) too. We have found around 10/15mm rake works best. We measure on the car sill lips (that hang down) approx 15mm from each end of the sills. I must admit my Red track car needs a little more rake feels like it has too much weight transfer when exiting the corner under power maybe needs a little more weight ont he front , if we harden the damping up we just break traction , we aren't to stiff on the springs either , think 10kg front 8 kg rear (roughly) from my memory. Do you run aftermarket arbs? Im 12/5 spring rates and still feel too soft. Just added cusco arbs and adjustable table drop links to hopefully reduce the roll and allow a corner weighting session. I was going to aim for 53/47 front to rear balance rather than aiming for a fixed rake? What was your front to rear balance? I believe raising the rear subframe improves the roll centre and increases anti squat as well which would help these cars a lot in my opinion
  7. Ive got a fibreglass one (i think, is the oem one hollow?) in azure
  8. Happy Xmas and New Year everyone!!! A few updates have been happening over the Xmas period which I like to call 'Operation Grip' Firstly the adjustable drop links arrived Adjustable drop links by ben taylor, on Flickr Droplinks by ben taylor, on Flickr Only thing Im not too happy about is the angle of the front droplink, Im hoping this improves when the car is back on the floor..... I am on with designing a new bottom arm, so I can rectify that when I do those mods. Droplinks by ben taylor, on Flickr And the biggest part of operation grip is this Splitter by ben taylor, on Flickr Splitter by ben taylor, on Flickr Still not finished as I need the front adjuster to arrive in the post, and Ive left it big to allow from damage to the edges whilst its on and off so much. No pics yet but Im also on with building a rear GT wing. Off the shelf ones are ridiculously expensive so again Im designing/building my own using a proper aerospace aerofoil. It will be a 2D wing, but as this is what a LOT of professional race teams use I dont think it will be an issue that it isnt 3D. The people making the core have the aerofoil I want and the dimensions, Im just waiting on the holiday season ending so they get on with it lol Whilst making the splitter I also noticed my oil cooler core was not fully in front of the bumper opening. half of it was higher reducing its effectiveness, So i made a few spacers for the bracket and dropped the core down. Oil cooler by ben taylor, on Flickr Oil cooler by ben taylor, on Flickr hopefully some more updates soon
  9. What pads are they? (apologies if i missed it mentioned already)
  10. Theyre designwd to compliment an na build really not turbo :/
  11. If you or the guy with the c8 cams fancy selling give me a shout
  12. That's awesome!! I do like fd's and the prices seem good atm but good clean ones seem few and far between without importing
  13. Reminds me of a bridgeport rotary One day I'll own a bridge port. But need a lottery win to cope with the unreliability and running costs of a rotary lol The z I linked is Michael Gardner who's running Sasha's old de with c10/c9 cam combo sadly this combo is for track o ly as you lose low rev driveability without itbs
  14. I want my car to idle like this <3 <3
  15. I did read something that said the revup oil pump was an upgrade, but unsure atm how true that was. There is a nismo pump which uses gtr internals but it's ££££
  16. Ooh that's good to know I think the jwt springs come with new retainers....
  17. Rods and rod bolts is the usually what limits rpm on engines. Im under the impression the de rods aren't great?
  18. I'll be going long tubes but have someone who can make them and has quoted 1400 for custom headers and full exhaust. 75mm tb Custom plenum but doing a lot of that myself Plenum spacer (wasso) Gtr injectors Panel filter and 06 airbag mod from on here Mines an out and out track car so thinking on c10/c9 cam combo Uprated valve springs ($200 I think) Edit: I'm basically doing as much as I can that sasha did without the forged internals so wont be able to rev as high but the peak figures don't need you to Edit2: I may go arp rod bolts for safety but last time I did that to a car it threw a rod at its next outing
  19. You know that a lot of the hp figures being quoted here are at the wheels right?
  20. Do many actually fit cats for MOT or like me do they get friendly mot's?
  21. I meant I wasn't wanting to argue with a tuner about costs. Its pointless as they've a business to run, not saying anything bad about any tuner there. I was more happy to have the 'its impossible' camp be wrong. Andy on that list, since that blog post was made they've had good results without the custom plenum (up to a point) and without the bigger tb (again to a point) but also had good gains with just a 75mm throttle body upgrade. Also jwt have made some new cam profiles since then and the key one is the C8 which idles fine and has big lift and 280deg duration. For most the gains they give should be fine.as in up to the 340whp area. According to jwt when I spoke to them the cams surge at idle as the stock intake is too restrictive but they idle and run fine at low Revs on itbs.
