  1. I bought this model about 2 months ago and all in all, I'm reasonably happy with it. The quality at high definition is pretty good, less so in lower light conditions. If you want crystal clear number plate definition when moving, then it's a bit ropey for oncoming traffic, but reasonably good for the car in front, as there is a fair bit of pixellation. I have the model with inbuilt memory or an sd card and have tried all the different resolution options to much the same effect tbh. It attaches with an adhesive pad and I have it installed just behind the rear view mirror and the view from there is pretty good. I've routed the cables using cable guides down around the windscreen to the passenger side power point, which works ok, but probably better if you could engineer it to power from behind the dash. Some downsides are: My model, when switched to mph recording, displays in kph (with mph in text behind it). There is a firmware fix for this, but it's a case of getting the exact firmware flash (of which there seem to be many) and you risk bricking it if you get the wrong one. Hence I've not done this yet. But is is slightly disturbing when is logs you doing nearly 50 through town in a 30 zone, so its reliability as evidence would need additional explanation if this isn't fixed. There's a slight smudge in the top right of the view, which is internal to the camera somewhere, but whether the lens or ccd is at fault I can't tell. It's not bad enough to be too obtrusive though. The viewing software that comes with it is ropey with the graphs of velocity printing outside the view window taking over the right hand of the screen. I could upload some footage to youtube if you're interested, but I suspect it may be downsized. Not really used youtube much, so can't say for sure.
  2. I was a big fan of the originals, in fact I dusted off HW2 last year and played it through. Still looked lovely and played well. I've heard that the unit strengths have been altered on the remakes, rendering some of the smaller craft nearly worthless later in the game. Is that true, or does it just force a change it tactics?
  3. Thank you, all. I too ate steak and drank beer. It was good.
  4. Just playing the Sniper Elite V2 freebie on XBOX Gold this month. I think I'm playing it on the wrong difficulty to get the full "Enemy at the Gates" experience. I'm sure real snipers don't locate the enemy by running about in the open getting shot repreatedly. The xray bullet penetration and organ mangling slowmos are a pointless, if mildly amusing feature. Have to say though that when one of my shots dropped low and I was presented with a slowmo animation of the guy's testes exploding I had to turn it off and go and do something else for a while.
  5. My brother's mate had a German uncle by the name of Everhard Koch, which was no end amusement when we were 13.
  6. My 2005 Roadster has needed 4 litres of oil topping up in 11000 miles (not including service changes).
  7. Going through my ever increasing pile of unplayed 360 games ... Next out is Thief. I enjoyed the original Thief games from years back, and although not far in, I'm kind of enjoying this one, I think, but have a growing feeling of disappointment. Good points: Nice feel to the city, sneaking about someone else's house does make you feel like your intruding and initially there is some suspense. Bad points: The standard difficulty setting it is a bit easy, you can be sat next to a guard in a bit of shadow and he can't see you. This somewhat counteracts the feeling of suspense. The paths through the levels are reasonably linear, and the AI patterns that the guards follow is too predictable. I also haven't a clue what I'm doing and why. I think I'd be enjoying it more if I wasn't constantly thinking that Dishonored did this better.
  8. Thanks for the advice, guys. Going to take it over to my mates and borrow his pry bar and start going over these tips ... when it's not raining.
  9. Sorry, I didn't. I replaced the whole arm. Bad wording on my part. I meant to emphasise that every aspect of the banana arm was new to avoid confusion. And the arms were from Ewen and so I'm sure they were kosher.
  10. Yes, it's another one of those threads, but I'm fast running out of leads having ruled out some of the usual suspects. Symptom = cracking / clunking sound, worse at low speed, generally on more uneven surfaces or speed bumps, or sometimes on cornering. Pretty sure it's coming from the front nearside. Started about 10 weeks ago and has steadily got more noticable (whether that's me noticing more or it occurring more often is another matter). The sound is sharper than a clunk, but duller than a crack (hence the confusing description) ... What I've done already: I have replaced both banana arms (i.e. the arm, bushes and balljoint + new cones and nuts). I have replaced the front droplinks. I've taken it to two local garages for inspection - both say the suspension and bushings are fine (after doing the above). One is saying the sound is coming from further back (near the door hinge or even in the door) or maybe under the dash. He suggests that as it's a convertible, the body's not as stiff as a coupe and the body flex is causing something to shift and make the noise.Maybe something in the door itself. Suggests it may take a good deal more investigation to find the culprit and to wait till it becomes more noticable so it's easier to track down. Not sure I want to live with it that long. Before I take the door apart, has anyone had any similar issues with the internals of the door, or have any other suggestions as to where to look? Cheers
  11. Mine looks like yours, but dirtier at the moment.
  12. Changed over last week to my standard alloys with Pirelli Sottozero 3s. I use my Zed in the winter and I've been caught out before in my old FTO with a rapid dump of snow whilst I've been at work. Now I'm working 110 miles away from home, I'm happy to invest in anything that gives me a better chance of getting home.
  13. I bought an external temperature sensor from the States when I first got the car (it was missing when I bought it). Nissan wanted £140. Couldn't find an alternative UK supplier at all (That was before I found this place). Ordered a genuine Nissan one from the States for the princely sum of about £23. The postage was about £19 on top of that, but a lot better than £140. I looked into banana bars from the States, original Nissan ones were about $200, but with potential import taxes and shipping of nigh on £90, it wasn't really worth it. Their after market ones were about £35 quid though, but they're the same as the cheap versions you get on ebay. Very tempting if you're happy to trust the quality of these things, but I decided to go genuine and ordered from Ewen.
  14. Quite so. Though the effect of that is generally that it gets to the last stage of folding the hood into the body and the canvas is too stiff for it to complete the action rather than not to operate at all. My money's on the brake pedal.
  15. Are you a Member of the BCS or similar Professional Body?
  16. I thought I'd need an alignment check? A mate of mine reckons if the control arms aren't disturbed I shouldn't need one. What's the deal?
  17. Two old nicknames bolted together. When I set up my internet account and started playing online games back in 95/96, I picked that as a username. My main initials are PG and on an occasion way back in school when the initials were embroidered onto the front of my rugby shirt, I managed to get a white strip from the line markings between the P and the G. Hence PiG. And as my first name is Pete, an old girlfriend used to bat my name about ... Pete, Petey, Feet, Feety ... Foetus. As I am a fan of J.G. Thirlwell (of Foetus fame) too ... the last one stuck. So, PiGFoetus. My other main username and xbox live tag is TinyTwerp, which is another story.
  18. My Grandad once bought my Gran a new kitchen sink for an anniversary present.
  19. I think there's perhaps a difference in outlook here? Although we have separate accounts and "split the bills", they are by no means split evenly. There's no concept of owing the other or seeking equality of contribution. It's just how we've always done things, it works and it takes energy to change.
  20. This ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Pete And again. We've never bothered with joint accounts, we split the bills. Now she's currently between roles I just dump enough cash into her account from mine every month to ensure the bills are covered, she has enough money for some fun, but not enough to put us in the poor house. She knows what's in my account and I know what's in hers, so it's kind of a common pool without the need for an additional account.
  21. Likewise, I have two big pads full of silica gel in the 350Z, which sorted most of my condensation woes.
  22. Ordered some Haribo, which were a bit pricey ... but they came with two banana arms and a P1 service kit for free, so that more than made up for it. Ordered Sunday night and arrived Tuesday. Great service. Cheers Ewen.
  23. Dad brought me up on Rock and Roll. My first 45 was Run to the Hills, so my formative years were in the NWOBHM camp, then migrated to Thrash Metal (which is probably still my first love), thence to Hardcore and into Punk, some Goth, then Industrial, Techno Industrial and Industrial metal. The CDs in my car now run from Jello Biafra, Big Black, Manic Street Preachers, Radiohead, Soulfy, Pixies, Discharge, AC/DC, RATM, New Model Army, Unkle, Meteors, Cardiacs, NIN, Einstuerzende Neubauten, Scraping Foetus off the Wheel and Skinny Puppy. Most stuff with a harder edge.
