I was always under the impression it was a timed thing, not beating the guy on the track, i.e best lap time? I am not sure i would want to go racing without a cage and harness's however!
-
Yes, I have pulled a couple of items, maf being one and threw a cel and appropriate code straight away.
-
I would imagine its highly addictive and will then become incredibly costly as you strive to make your car better or to give you a shot at winning, i cant imagine you would feel satisfied with coming 2, 3, 6th or whatever if your competitive and you then enter the world of motorsport i.e money. I didnt think you actually raced against people though, isnt it timed laps?
-
I would say yes, for adhesion and finish.
-
Personally dont think its a good look on a pretty much std ish car.
-
Thanks for the link, i really dont think its coils as in essence its as smooth as, no misfire, no hesitation, just flat, like its stuffed full of cotton wool and cant breathe, when it does occasionally work it runs the same, but feels crisp and responsive, as much as 1.5 can be
-
This was my next input, no familiar with these engines in particular, but how is the timing controlled via the coil packs, surly the ECU timing map does this? I was going to suggest a coil pack breaking down under load, although it should result in a misfire, I would still test or substitute cam and crank angle sensors as this could have a big impact, and effect the function of the VVTI system. Ok thanks, going to try and source an ecu from a breaker just to eliminate that, wont hurt to have a spare. Then move onto your suggestion and start eliminating sensors, if its none of these, guess its the vvti itself and sadly the most costly, it may just be gummed up as by all accounts this can happen and restrict the movement. Problem is i cant even get any live data as its just too old to test.

Latest update on engine bay UHT Wrinkle Plus finish on the upper plenum Gold heat tape Some carbon

Possibly, but there is no visible join on the plastic, you can see when the airbag is removed from behind the airbag "door" is split in the middle, so if it can break the thin plastic, i would be pretty sure it will tear some flimsy thin fabric, or just rip the whole lot off.

Some engine bay tidying but happy as it is apart from the things to do when money allows, bonnet & 370z side repeaters and some small superficial changes. Spent too long modifying Rx7's and you end up with something your always working on and never driving

Only whats listed in the spec

This is the pain of it all, no cel light so no fault code, so just trying to put myself in the right ballpark to start the process of elimination. The only thing that throws a spanner in the works for me is the vvti as i presume if this isnt functioning correctly it could give these symptoms? It does also appear worse under load, i.e i am climbing a hill from slow speeds or pull out onto a gradient, or the lack of power is just amplified because of the gradient. Thanks for your thoughts gents, where would you start if you were in my position, sadly cant test the timing as its integrated coil/plugs.

I keep looking but found it by chance, use key words, like self adhesive, suede style, seem to remember something like that.

I did think of this, would it send a varying signal though, if it detected knocking (which the car isnt), would it say, ah its not so bad retard the ignition by x amount or simply just send a signal to the ecu to say its detecting knock, retard the ignition?
-
Consul out and then you can get the two plastic dash trims out to the left and right (airbag to the left and behind instruments to the right), the instruments need removing obviously.

Sorry should have added, swapped the vvti solenoid for a new one and fuel pressure checked out fine. I have pretty much gone through everything at my mates garage. Bar just swapping sensors i am lost. The only reason i made the assumption of timing is the varying degrees to which it does or doesnt want to perform, i.e its not just good or bad, it can be anything in between.
-
Maybe some engine gurus might be able to add some thought. I have a daily Toyota Bb, its basically a 1.5vvti Yaris engine. When pulling away its flat as a pancake mostly until the revs rise, on occasion its fine on other occasions its somewhere in between. I am guessing or presuming the timing is being retarded. It is not running rough or hesitating, just varying degrees of flatness, on brief occasions its fine. I have checked and swapped the obvious maf sensor, no change, fuelling via lamda checked, all fine, plugs changed, even ran without an exhaust to check for blocked cat/ehaust, no change. Apart from ecu, what sensors on a car would send a signal of varying degrees to the ecu to retard the ignition? Or could it be vvti at fault. P.s No engine light and no codes.

Done a similar thing but the other way round in my build thread below. Personally think the above highlights the plasticky interior more, a lovely trimmed centre consul and then two massive slabs of plastic either side. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/84921-best-of-both-worlds/

I generally dont drive in the wet as the zed is a weekend car, but was out the other weekend in some heavy rain for 2 days solid and they seemed ok, maybe that view would change if i had to have stopped quickly. As mentioned if this was my only set of wheels and i would want something better, but for normal driving, they do what i need of them.

Currently running Nankangs NS2's and for the price i am pretty pleased, more than enough grip for road use imho. I have a set of track wheels so not bothered about something better for the road or something i would need extra grip from on track, if you find the limits on the road with Nankangs, i would say your driving like a c**k or are ham footed with your right peddle. If i wanted something that offered more grip as you liked the odd track day or a very very spirited drive i would go for Eagle F1's.

If i quote, that is the price, if it takes me more or less time. I have done jobs which have taken a week longer and if its my error in pricing, i suck it up, if a situation arises where something doesnt allow me to do the work i priced for, i immediately inform the client something unexpected was found which isnt in the pricing, i.e last year i did a job and we found asbestos, work had to stop and it be removed, there was no way i could allow for that within a price, sometimes you just cant cover all eventualities or you would never get any work. Most clients in those situations are very reasonable and understanding and realise its not something i could have predicted. However, if its something i should have realised myself, again, i stump up as consider it unprofessional that i had not made an allowance for it. The building game is not a precise art and sometimes you never know what you may find that someone else has done previously. I personally dont like working day rates for the very reasons in my first post, people want their pound of flesh, irrespective of how much work you have done, i might do 1.5 times as much as another guy in a day, we are not all the same pace, but their mentality in some cases is all they want to see you do is an 8 hour day, they dont consider what was achieved. I have actually been called by a friend saying, i want my offices painted whats your day rate, "x", ah but i can get him for "x" (less), my response is, use him then. Its not an level playing field, but the ££££ does mysterious things to people
-
I did try and make her realise that I physically couldnt do anything else on those days as I had to wait for this or that to dry and it is the nature of the beast and in essence still had to allow a day at the job. Its a no win situation, i would feel guilty if i had just sculked around pretending to have something to do until 5 or dragged the day out. Anyway, back to the old format, signed quote returned.
-
I hate to say it, but the only issues i have ever had on site is with women
-
The only reason i mentioned the price on this job was my rates have just gone up and this particular customer previously paid my old rate, so felt i should mention my new daily rate, so as to explain how it gets to "x". So question for mrt, if your hedge cutting dude said its £30 per hour + waste removal and will take 6 hours, would you still have used him?
-
Exactly, one of the reasons for going self employed was because it encouraged me to work hard, when i was employed i was paid the same regardless of how much work i did in a day or week. Some weeks were busy, some easy, you took the rough with the smooth. I felt being self employed i was in the power of my own destiny, if i work hard i would reap the rewards so it aggrieves me when a customer preaches about the principals of the length of the day, not what you have achieved in that day!! I vividly remember clocking in and out of work, didnt realise it was the same when you were self employed....
