  1. Peeps travel 6 - 8 hours to get to Nobles and they do not consider it an inconvience considering the service you get. They are only a phone call away so get your finger out and make the effort. Alex. It's a lack of time on my part though. I've not been home in a month and have 101 things to do, I've already over budgeted my time on this. The whole thing is a ball ache being 40mins up the road.
  2. Nobles is 2hrs away though. It's not exactly convenient for me. I can't really do much just now, is it even open on Saturday?
  3. They don't sell a lot of 370Z's. They know my situation with work as they remember me as a customer as I'm quite unique in the milage I do. They don't get many 25k mile a year customers buying a Z. Unfortunately I am remembered as my work hours probably cause them a bit of a pain in the arse.
  4. I'm about to phone head office and whinge until they give me what I want. I'll hold off an hour, but if anyone can give advice on what I should be saying, please do.
  5. Nissan are doing their best to lose a customer. Had a technician (who was great) check my car today, confirmed it's in all likelihood the synchro that has gone, and it will be a replacement gearbox. Estimated time off the road 1-2wks, maybe longer, as he was honest enough to admit to me that it isn't a simple process. And this is where my problems start. I work 12hr shifts in Wales and work 11 days on 3 days off. I live near Glasgow, and the Z is my daily car. My nearest HPC down there is maybe 2.5hrs away in Manchester. My nearest regular Nissan dealership isn't exactly local either, and I'm not keen on getting quite a major repair done by mechanics who will probably of never worked on a 370Z before, so I want it fixed in a HPC. I don't think I'm being too unreasonable there. Bear in mind when I bought this car, new, the GT Edition was the very top spec 370Z Nissan made. Given that it was a £35k car (although I did get a big discount), I'd like to think I was a pretty valued customer. I'm not in buying a second hand Micra at £3k, I've made a fairly significant investment in a brand new Nissan. They won't give me a courtesy car. Reason given - I do too many miles (I'll exceed their lease agreement) and will have it away for too long. When pressed, they told me I should hire a car, and pay it out my own pocket. Now to hire an equivalent to a 370Z, for maybe upto a month, how much is that going to cost, £1500 maybe? Even hiring a cheaper car, but one that is realistic to be travelling 350ml trips (ie not a i10, Aygo, etc), we're still going to be talking £500-£600 for the worst case scenario and the cars away for up to a month. I have no car, and I am an unhappy customer.
  6. Honestly, as a Scot, I'm actually embarrassed by the whole Yes/No campaigns. The most important question to be asked in the countries modern history, and we're treated to 2 of the most inept campaigns! One campaign is so uninspiring, dull and negative - the other is walking about with it's fingers in it's ears going lalalalala, and saying repeatedly into itself 'och it'll be awright'. For people that aren't peddling an agenda, or hadn't already made their mind up long, long ago.... there is little by the way of fact on which to actually base a decision. The Yes campaign has been particularly awful for this, completely unable to satisfactorily answer any questions relating to economy, currency and energy. Embarrassing, and frankly, our people deserve a lot better than what we've been treated to. I really wish this was over and done with, I'm scunnered with it and I'll be voting No (that is if I'm allowed to vote, as despite contributing a 5 figure tax sum to a Scottish tax office, and continuing to do so, I've the audacity to be workin out the country for a couple of years) by default because the prospect of any of these chancers in both the Yes and No camps having power fills me with dread! Personally the only way I see the Yes vote winning, is if people become scunnered with the whole thing to point they don't bother polling. Perhaps that is part of the Yes tactics, as you can be sure those intent on voting Yes will have a +90% turnout in their bid to get to cry "FREEEEEDOM", because lets face it a significant percentage of those in the Yes camp are voting so because of some faux tribalism, and little other reason. I think those who like me, are intent on voting No by default due to sheer uncertainty and totally disappointing and unconvincing answers from the Yes camp (certainly not because of any argument put forward by the equally inept No campaign), are far less likely to go to the polling station. People who are not firmly rooted in one camp, are starting to become tired of the whole thing. It really is descending to infantile levels at times with debate. One of my oldest friends barely talks to the rest of our social group just now as we're all 'traitors to Scotland', not because we're actively campaigning for no, but because we're totally unconvinced. It's actually quite scary how much he has changed in the last 18mths since he got involved officially in campaigning. TBH I'm quite glad I'm out the country for the next 7mths. It's actually quite depressing the divide this has created amongst a small percentage of folk. Some people, on both sides, but particularly the Yes side, are ridiculously bitter against those of us who don't share their vision.
  7. Chris Harris is known for a bit of Porsche bias. Tbh, the Z is a bit vulgar, not completely refined, and well is Japanese. Harris seems to like precise, well engineered things... The Z isn't his type of car. Clarkson, possibly the world's best know car journalist, hates Porsches, but it doesn't stop Porsche being the best selling sports cars, and having a reputation for being quality. I don't know why the GT96 gets compared to the Z. It's a different class of car, comparable to the MX5 and maybe even the Elise.
  8. 18k on the clock. 14k of that motorway cruising
  9. Issue is getting worse and worse, cannot engage 6th at all now under acceleration at speed, need to let the revs drop before it'll go in. Still have a week and about 500mls to drive until I get the first chance to get it seen to. I complained about a whine and clunk coming from the gearbox about 5mths back, and was told the car was fine by the Nissan HPC tech.
  10. I've did 19,000 miles in a year. I make a lot of changes 5th to 6th gear as I'm up and down from Scotland to Wales a lot. 80% of my milage is low revs sitting at 70mph on the motorway. I'm probably in a minority as a Z owner in the way I use the car, but then I am using it in the GT sense
  11. Booked in for next weekend at Macklins in Glasgow. Going to take the technician out a run. I've been googling the issue and it seems my symptoms are pretty much an exact match with a synchro problem that has been reported several times on other forums. It looks like it will be a new gearbox if it is this. I have been pretty disappointed in the Z's build quality if I am honest. For a car that I bought new, it's been one minor thing after another, building up to this, which I think is going to be fairly major. Unfortunately I don't think I'd buy a new Nissan again, much as I really love the Z. A pain in the arse as I'm 3wks in Wales, 3 days in Scotland. I'm not within 2hrs of a HPC where I am. If the car goes in to get fixed, will they give me a courtesy car for 3wks?
  12. I've got a reverse camera in mine as original equipment. I use it all the time, as well, the Z is clumsy at parking and tight manoeuvring... plus I want to keep those alloys away from the kerb. You'll get a reversing camera no problem, and I understand it's an easy fix
  13. My car is changing cleanly in every gear except 6th. - Under hard acceleration this crunches every time. - Under acceleration it crunches most of the time. - Regular gear changes it crunches around half the time. - With slow/careful gear changes, it crunches some of the time. Going to be another 2wks before I am even close to a Nissan dealership (working 13 12hr shifts in North/Mid Wales), but something is definitely amiss with the car. This started when I was in Switzerland so already done 1600mls in the car with problem and it's getting worse. Has anyone experienced similar, so I know how to handle this when I get to the dealership?
  14. Looks the same as every other GT edition, but I took mine to the place where the piece was filmed that eventually led me to get one. The old Reims GP circuit. Car is surprisingly clean looking for having done 600mls on wet/salty motorways.
  15. They do take a video though don't they? I was dropping the other half off at her work (just off George Sq), so definitely went straight on. Just the wide angle lens of the camera makes me look like I've travelled miles in the bus lane, when infact it's maybe 3 car lengths (going by the parked cars). Indeed between the junction and where I would of went into the correct lane, it is maybe only 6-7 car lengths. Lock me up! Not that a £30 fine bothers me that much, it is just the principle of it, plus fancy a little fight Unfamiliar with the city, night time, very heavy rain (remember this as I had to drive to Wales right afterwards and the motorway was 30-40mph conditions), and a stationary car partly blocking the correct lane. You are right though. Lets face, they are sign posted, but in a busy city centre, with people and cars around, few people notice these as there are loads of hazards to be aware of! In Glasgow in particular it is so easy to get into a bus lane completely by accident, more so if you are not familiar with the city. Once in one it's easy to get boxed in, and can be hard to get out of one quickly. In that particular junction, if you are on Hope St turning right, in the right hand lane, you can get boxed in there easily if there is a large vehicle in the middle lane also turning right. Hardly seems fair to get hit with a £60 fine for it. I would suggest the figures (Reading an article on STV that camera, and the one in Glassford street get around 500 people per day), suggest there is more wrong than peoples driving standards. Could it be it's a deliberate cash cow? 125k fines for this generated in 18mths... not a bad earner for a city of 600k people.
  16. Sorry the first post doesn't make sense really, I've realised during the progression of the topic this occured further up the road. I'll edit it to be clearer
  17. It looks like a Private Hire, as it appears to have a badge, so probably stopped to let folk out, or pick up. It's 8pm on a Sunday night, so nothing too unusual.
  18. I couldn't be. I'm going straight on, and the lane I am in is right turn only, I have to move left before the traffic lights. I'm actually wrong in my thinking tracing my route. I've turned right from Hope Street onto West George Street (that is gobbleygook to those who don't know Glasgow lol) that's what I've did, I've turned right at that junction, onto a bus lane, seen a car half and half in the lanes, and stayed where I was before moving left, as said I would have to move left after I am past that car to avoid ending up in the 'right turn' filter lane. (shown)
  19. Unfortunately that is what I think. What are you supposed to do if there is a car stopped taking up half your lane though?
  20. Is this worth appealing, or just pay up. Glasgow is pretty draconian when it comes to bus lanes, and I don't really know the city centre all that well these days as I so rarely drive in it. I've came up Hope Street, and turned right on West George Street (alien to those who don't know Glasgow). There is what appears to be a Private Hire half in half between the left and middle lane. To me after turning, I've no real 'safe' option but to use the bus lane to give the car its room (as a door could open, or anything). After passing this car I simply had to move into the middle lane, as I was going straight on, and the bus lane becomes a filter lane for a right hand turn. I couldn't of been in the bus lane for much more than 25m The bus lane marking on the tarmac you see in the streetview pictures, is the same one as the third black and white photo That is what the road looks like from where I was turning right That is what the road looks like, looking down the street (without parked cars on the left) and that is the bottom of the road, showing the filter lanes (I was going straight on) I dunno. I feel a wee bit mugged by this. Worth appealling?
  21. For a start Scotland would be facing an energy crisis within it's first 15yrs, when the 2 of the 3 main power stations (Hunterston, and Longgannet) close. Torness would follow a few years later. Windmills don't work brilliantly in practice (although look fantastic on paper), and Scotland has low storage capacity for when the wind isn't blowing. Even so, Scotland would need something in the region of 14x the current amount of windmills it has to replace those 3 power stations. To be fair it isn't a problem exclusive to Scotland, the rest of the UK is facing an energy crisis. However, Scottish government seems content pursuing pointless vote winning policies rather than addressing the rather huge elephant in the room ie: stop plundering our energy budget subsiding the putting of windmills up and build some proper staple, reliable power stations! Coal, nuclear, oil, gas, whatever type is most financially viable... it needs done! Not that I am against Renewable Energy, it has a very important role to play. However it is utter folly to base an energy policy 100% reliant on it, and it will be Salmonds rather costly legacy.
  22. Canon or Nikon. It's like arguing if heads or tails is worth more on a pound coin. Both are market leaders, and professional photographers nearly always have Canon or Nikon kit. Whatever you choose you will be happy with.
  23. Better to buy an entry level camera and a good lens, than a mid range camera with a kit lens. I'd only ever advise to buy a Nikon or a Canon, not that other manufacturers make particularly worse camera bodies (these days there are only very small %'s between the best and worst in terms of image quality), but simply there are a far better choice of lens and accessories available for both. Whatever you choose you probably will end up sticking to
  24. Thinking of doing a little euro jaunt for 3-4 days in a couple of weeks, just me alone with the car. Any recommendations on where to go? Is the Alp region ok for Z ' s at this time of year? South of France?
