  1. Insurance is a funny old business, I haven't been able to understand it. 5-6yrs ago I had an Audi S3, which was cheaper to insure with my then girlfriend, whom had a smash 1yr prior and a DUI conviction 2.5yrs prior, than me alone. Eh?
  2. 31, 0pts, 10yrs no claims, garaged car. I'm just under £700 as the cheapest I can find.
  3. Just had a call off Macklins there.... it won't be ready to Tuesday(ish). Wasted bloody journey from work in Wales to Scotland last night. Getting really pi**ed off now. That's now 2 weekends off work I need to take, and well... that's a fair bit of money. Given everything, do you think I'd be being cheeky asking for them to waiver the fee for my service that was also getting done (£280)? Really how long does it take to replace a bloody gearbox. They've had the part in Glasgow for 10 days now. Seriously how much this has cost me in things:- 1mths car insurance for a car I can't use - £50 1mths finance repayment for a car I can't use - £280 1 extra weekend off work to collect it - £500 Cost of insuring myself on another car - £50 You're talking the guts of £800, for a problem that isn't my fault.
  4. 3wks later... I get the car back today.
  5. tbh, any decent garage will be able to give a proper diagnosis. My car is 1yr old and did 19k. I got the geometry done and replaced the pads... what a difference. I hadn't realised how much the car had deteriorated since new.
  6. Corsa has had a gearbox ECU failure. 2 cars off the road with gearbox issues.
  7. Well I am in North Wales and given my corsa has now broken (funnily enough with a gearbox issue).... I am now stuck here on my weekend off. Got a call yesterday saying the gearbox will not be delivered until the beginning of next week, so it won't be fixed until the end of next week, I won't be able to collect it until the 14th March, by which time my cars been off the road for 1 month. Becoming very tired of it all.
  8. One thing I have noticed about the Z, hills effect the MPG alot. Driving between Wales and Scotland, 26-27mpg. Driving across the flatter ground of the Midlands and South, 29-30mpg. Driving across the very flat parts of Europe, 33-34mpg. All instances are long distance driving on motorways. Considering the type of car it is, the economy is pretty acceptable.
  9. It's a preference thing , some prefer autos and some manuals , personally I find the manual box, dmf/clutch arrangement on the zeds agricultural , not pleasant at all in traffic I will agree there, the Z is a pretty clumsy car to drive in congested areas as it is with its limited visibility, wide body, etc. The heavy clutch and gear box on the manual just make it all the clumsier. It is easily the manual Z's weakest point, it's actually a pretty crap car to drive in a stop/start/stop driving situation. Nearly all my driving is rural and motorways. If I was doing more urban driving during peak hours an auto would be far nicer.
  10. Plus you get the wonderful synchro rev on the manual, which will make you just change gears for the sake of changing gears. Such a brilliant yet simple innovation the Z has, you wonder why it took until 2009 for it to be on a production car!
  11. The auto is still the older style system, you know the thing you might find on camper vans and old mercs. Admittedly a very good version of it, but it's still a torque converter. It's ok, but not a patch on the modern auto dual clutch gearboxes. I test drove both on buying and went with the manual because it was much more engaging.
  12. With that semi autobox it definitely is. Had a near miss with an understeer skid on it going round a slow corner and it just changed into 2nd at the worst time and spun the front wheels on a wet road nearly into a wall. Gearbox is awful in automode. Doesn't change when you need it too.
  13. Yeah, honestly its a terrible car. For a mid range manufacturer, Vauxhall made some utter dross in the 00's. Even the VXR's are pretty uninspiring. Only thing I like about it is having a usable boot again!!
  14. Getting sick of driving a 10yr old 1.2 Corsa with a semi auto box (awful thing). Although after getting used to this, the Z will feel pretty special getting in it again.
  15. Car went in on Saturday. It's been stripped, and the repair authorised. Just waiting on the part, so prob another 7-10 days until ready. I would urge anyone that feels like they have a particularly clunky gear to get it looked at whilst the cars under warranty. It will be expensive! Mine started off feeling heavy, which with car being fairly new just put down to it bedding in. Then progressed into missing gear changes, which I put down to me being too quick with the clutch.... It gradually became obvious the problem was the gear box. It became very noticable on a trip to the continent going down the Autobahn, when I was flicking between 5 and 6 at 120-130 mph. Higher engine speed, and crunch, crunch, crunch with every gear change. Eventually became hard to engage 6th under any engine load above 4k revs.
  16. I drive with the aircon always on, and get really bad condensation. Why is the 370z so bad for it?
  17. They changed the storm white colour didn't they? I know my GT Edtion is Storm/Pearl White, where as a friends Juke, which is about a year older, is Storm White, but no pearl. My colour match is fine btw.
  18. I run a largish forum using the same version of IPB as this. It's a 2 minute job to add a location field to show under the avatar, and be updated in your profile.
  19. The tech explained it to me. The gear box needs taken out and stripped down. Photos need taken, and sent to Nissan to investigate. Nissan then talk about it and approve the repair and authorise. The part is delivered and fitted, and the car tested. The tech said ''big'' repairs like this can take 2-3wks easily, just with the waiting around for authorisation and parts. The actual removal and fitting takes a few hours. The tech also advised this might be a £7k or £8k repair, so Nissan will investigate it.
  20. I think my issue is the exception, not the rule.
  21. and.... I still can't get a courtesy car as I need to present the originals of my driving licence.... which are in Wales, I'm in Scotland with the only key to my flat. I have a copy of my licence, but they won't accept that. Every ****ing avenue is a blocker
  22. No doubt, I may move over to Nobles as the guy I dealt with at Macklins has left the dealership, and the guys that knew Sam would know he was a good point of contact. However, it was just too much hassle today and I really don't have the time this weekend to put it right. I was already halfway down the process with Macklins.
  23. 2hrs of on the phone whinging about it later... and a courtesy car has miraculously been made available. Macklins Glasgow Nissan poor performance today. However the group head office in Newcastle and Nissan Customer service were both excellent. Although it shouldn't of needed to come to me having to whinge about it to them! However happy enough with the result.
  24. Still on the phone, I am actually getting somewhere. Much as the dealership wasn't helpful today, the head office has been incredibly helpful as have Nissan.
