  1. From the album: Trackdays

    Oulton Park March 2nd
  2. Completely standard 350Z everything as per road spec- completed first Oulton Park trackday today (March 2nd) Surprisingly competent especially as most others had fully race prepped toys but the brakes let it down- almost on fire after 4 hard laps as i've never seen as much smoke coming out from the wheels before- so wish list now runs--- Essential- Mintex pads, EBC Turbo groove discs Desirable- Toyo R888s, Suspension- ??? open to suggestions Desirable but not critical- lighter flywheel and competition clutch Overall though brilliant fun- heavy though and needs a 2.5 gear as 2nd and 3rd were both wrong for Foulstones and Island Bend (2nd too low and 3rd too tall)
  3. stop worrying- been going to family several times a year in Germany via France and Belgium since 1991 and have never been stopped once or asked to produce anything spurious and unusual. Don't drive like a twonk and you'll be fine. Once on the Autobahn after Aachen then flooooooor it! (but slow down at Mway junctions as these do have enforced speed limits)
  4. mines a sunset in this area- but i saw a nice black one in Leigh recently-
  5. Just up the road as I'm from the Nortth West- any one thought about tackling the Hardknott Wrynose Pass in a Z?? Only problem is getting the mountain bike in the 'boot'.
  6. The problem is bad science advising the legislators. Studies start with the conclusion and then fit the hypothesis to match. No awareness of cause and effect. If stats dictate the speed then make the speed limit outside schools 70mph- because motorways are statistically our safest roads and these have a 70mph limit. Before everyone rants at me for advocating 70mph outside schools- I'm not! I'm illustrating the warped thinking that controls the decisions made by the powers that be. (and anyone driving fast in a built up area is a total muppet)
  7. Rented a 350Z from Sixt in 2003 when it first came out and took it round (9:45 BTG damp) but I've taken tons of cars round there from Fiesta 1.3 to a 911 GT3 as I had a local German connection (I've now married the 'connection' and live in the UK so ring trips are much rarer, especially since I gave Sixt one of their 5 series back as a bag of spares). I loved the 350 that I rented so much that this was the reason I bought one in Nov last year.
  8. The Navy on the Scots strip is getting so dark it's starting to look like Black.......and we know what happened to the last team in Black to come up against England! Hope it's a good match though
  9. Thanks for the link- that was what I was looking for.
  10. OK- here we go- Yes I want track tyres and the R888 are in the mix but I will be driving the Z to and from the circuit and I assume the wear on the R888 as a softer compound will be wasted on the 'commute'. It won't be solely trackday, if I had a trailer then the Toyos would be a no-brainer. Price differences- MyTyres Potenza RE 050 A 245/45 R18 96 W £208.60 then Potenza RE 050 A 245/45 R18 96 W £170.80 (not the 100W or the Asymmetric or runflat). Same size same load rating same speed rating same pattern so why the difference on the same site. The same happens on all other websites for tyres and I don't see any explanation. I have RE040s on at the moment front has 5mm rear are dead- so I'm looking at a compromise for the rear for Oulton Park in March. I don't want to put R888s all round until all 4 of the existing are dead.
  11. OK- I've trawled the tyre websites and looked at Bridgestone too. Search on the forum search button = blank Can anyone tell me why RE050 tyres for my Z vary in cost so much (£150 to £250) for what appears to be the same tyre spec on the same website (Black Circles, MyTyres etc,)- and also what is the difference between the R50 and R50A. It's confusing me so much I'm thinking 'just go for the Toyo R888s'
  12. From your avatar and you've probably guessed from my nom de plume the derestricted toll road has some commonality. Looking to take the Z round in May to break its ring virginity. Have you ringed yours?
  13. I bought my Z to give my mates with the Porkers a run for their money (at half their price). If you've got both then you have have officially confused my train of thought
  14. Mate had a Fabia VRs that I thrashed for a few miles- fun but not a patch on the solidity of the Z. Welcome to the club
  15. My Sunset Orange has two previous owners both female- I'm thinking maybe as a red blooded male what I am I doing with this 'girly' car!
  16. Having reliable first hand reports of main stealers doing a ful 'service' I really wouldn't be worried. A careful and competent home mechanic would beat an FSH hands down- you could guarantee that Mobil 1 was used rather than something from a 500 litre barrel of sea sludge in the corner. Search out a good indy if you don't want to do it yourself but a Nissan stamp on an out of warranty car is vanity.
  17. Might have been me- date time and location tie in. I've had to use my Z to get to Oxford as my crappy design flawed timing chain on my BMW 520d has gone pop and blown the motor . Petrol bill hurts using the Z and doing the M40 isn't fun but i'll have the unreliable (but cheap on fuel) German diesel back next week and my Z can go back to being a play tool for my trackdays
