  1. TBH its just a matter of waiting for the right car, one will turn up that suits your needs. 1st Zed was literally the first one we saw we bought. 2nd time around we must have seen 10 at least before we felt we'd found the right one. That's just the way it goes, and its not like its a focus or something common to find. The right one will come along
  2. Its always disappointing when you have a bad experience with a dealer. Have to say Greg was very good with us when we were looking, let us test drive a couple of cars on our own and gave me a call when he had something new he thought I might like. Ended up buying privately and got what I was looking for but I couldn't say anything bad about the way I was treated! The right car is out there for you somewhere p34nut keep looking and you will find it! Good luck Ed
  3. Hey Ian, great stuff, well deserved your Zed is v nice Ed
  4. I have to say im with brillomaster I am glad that he is ok and no one is hurt but driving like that imagine if someone was coming the other way as he span all over the road, no sympathy here for that sort of driving. Ed
  5. Really sorry to see this, and heading to your wedding venue to boot! I know when my Mrs had her previous Zed written off last year she was in bits about it for ages. The important thing is that you are both ok! The Zed is a strong car and has looked after you well. Good luck with the hunt for a new Zed Ed
  6. Not sure why no ones mentioned tradelink? Gregs a good chap and they always have a load of 350's. Im also going to stick my oar in though!! Sounds like you need a car, which presumably means you need it to be on the road. Are you sure this is the right decision in terms of buying if something happens with one of these its likely to be four digit expensive and possibly mean it being off the road, our first one needed a gearbox rebuild unexpectedly it was off the road for 3 weeks waiting for parts from japan, lets say they wernt "overnight". Good luck to you. Ed
  7. TBH im just glad to be rid of mine, fair play for the work you've done though!
  8. Sorry to hear this, will keep em peeled out my way, hope they catch the little rotters. Ed
  9. @RedZed I see what youre saying but really if you cant afford to put performance tyres on your performance car maybe should buy something that will be cheaper to run? just putting it out there. Cant afford it - don't run it. I have to say that when we were looking for our current Zed I walked away from a lot of cars based on what tyres they had on them, as others have said its an easy indicator of care for the car isn't it, if youre willing to put cheap tyres on the car then who knows what else you've cheaped out on in its care. My personal experience with tyres is that the MPSS were night and day better than the RE050s we had on it originally and for a while we had RE040s which were shocking. with the MPSS on the car handles night and day better in the wet. I haven't had the back end step out since the tyres were changed full stop. I used to put whatever cheap rubbish on my corsa back in the day and even on that wet braking was noticeably worse than on decent tyres. And my last example is that my friend was driving his Passat down the M1 being followed by the Mrs in the Zed. Weather was torrential, road was soaked with standing water etc. Neither of them were travelling fast and my friends car span off the road as it aquaplaned. The Mrs had not a jot of problem on the MPSS at the same speed. I know there are a lot of factors involved in something like this but a FWD 2L TDI Passat being driven sensibly shouldn't struggle in those conditions more than the Zed. I believe the main problem was that his car was running 3 different branded ditch finders and a winter tyre . I warned him to get them all changed. Thankfully he was fine but his car was written off. Tyres are so important and even if youre driving something mundane in that time where there is extreme conditions - emergency braking for a hazard, terrible weather etc etc then decent tyres prove their worth. And lets be honest we cant avoid extreme conditions they happen to everyone. Just my 2cents Ed
  10. Basically right DE to 2006 Rev up 2006 HR 2007 onwards - bonnet bulge is a good marker if its a HR rather than earlier model
  11. While ive never used it im aware that dynamat is the go to choice for sound deadening but its surprisingly heavy so might want to consider that as you said you took the spare wheel out to save weight. Ed
  12. This TBH, why replace something that's still working, might at lease see you round the ring and back
  13. As some have said earlier in the thread I notice that they show people cars and cosmetic things are picked up, promised to be fixed before taking the car and then it doesn't happen or is done badly. I remember when we were there we were made similar promises but I was sceptical. If you were going to deal with the issues you would deal with them before putting the car at the front of the forecourt, you want to car to be looking its best for the sale. Made me wary before I even spoke to a salesman. Their response email is pretty much what I would expect of them tbh. Ed
  14. Just stack em up, my piles 8 high, granted got tyres on mine
  15. TBH often better the devil you know, 70k isn't much on a Zed in terms of it needing to be changed! Don't know what that cars condition is, you know yours and as above unless yours needs work it that's going to cost prob a bad idea. Ed
  16. Im sure ive posted my experience of them else where but I echo others concerns about this place. The Mrs and I went there to have a look around there 350's when we were looking, they appeared helpful even bringing another Zed over from their Peterborough branch but then they fed me a load of rubbish about the cars clutch feeling normal when it clearly didn't and they tried to make a very hard sell. At one point we had 3 of them stood around us asking us what they needed to do to make a sale there and then despite me making it clear we would just be having a look at that visit. On leaving I received a very off hand comment about how we were obviously too picky and would be looking a long time! - very rude. Even if they had the right car for me in the future I wouldn't go back and give them any of my hard earned! Terrible company.
  17. Found both of ours on pistonheads.
  18. TBH it as just something that id read about a faint judder when braking which started happening after a few years. Not something I was concerned about at the time (or now), they stopped very well, noticeably better than the OEMs. I have no regrets over buying them just having my time again id go with the more expensive option. I was never unhappy with them.
  19. There seem to be some reports of black diamond discs warping with time. Before our old zed bit the biscuit I thought ours were going that way too. When the new Zeds need replacing I'll be going DBA T2. Ed
  20. While I only live across the road from Cougar Store if I lived in Bedford (and I did for most of my life) I would still bring m Zed to them. Can't beat their service, worth a little drive.
  21. As said people be stupid, get it all the time driving the Zed. I like to make progress in it but I wont speed but everyone seems to think cos you've got a sporty car and are moving you want to race. Pees me right off, ill do what im doing and you do what youre doing. Worst one recently was the day of the snow when it was quite precarious out and some moron in an Astra VXR tries to race me off a roundabout, left him to it he must have got to100, caught him up and went past him later as hed slowed right down. Racing a zed in the snow...no thanks.
  22. I agree the Zed is a great car, after 3 years of ownership and daily driving the Mrs and I always have smile when were driving it, not many cars can evoke that response I don't think. I cant imagine that we'll be selling ours personally. When the Mrs needs something with more seats - she keeps drumming on about a GTR in a few years - I'll be making a play to keep it as a 3rd car. Ed
