  1. Meh, all throttle bodies get dirty, every one, and all throttle bodies will have to be celaned at some time. The Z uses a common crank breather system where any blow-by gases are fed back into the intake to burn them off. In the old days they were shunted out to the fresh air, but of course that eventually stops the air being fresh for everyone. Slowly but surely oily crud will build up, especially if you happen to use higher revs regularly on an engine that is no longer in the first flush of youth (or you have a HR engine which IMO are practically diesels with the amount of oil they get through . BIg up the DE's ) Basically, clean it or at least whip the pipe off and visually check it Just wanted to say, I haven't got a clue where you got your idea about HR engines?? They burn NO oil whatsoever. I think the revup engines do, but being an HR owner, I can say mine doesn't burn a drop, and neither does a lot of other HR owners on here. +1 neither our DE or HR ever burned any oil, just went from service to service Ed
  2. Hi Guys, Still got a couple of things left over from the old Zed, hoping to get rid Can arrange collection either Bedford or Leicester: 1) Genuine vertical Tonneau - Sold to HassanZ Comes with seen fittings, one of the black hand knobs must have been broken as is missing and the top fixings were attached with cable ties! - not sure if that's right or not but it seemed to work fine. These usually sell for >£100 so hence £75 as its obviously not 100%, the divider itself is in good condition. 2) Standard aerial £5 collected Not much to say about this, its an OEM aerial - no issues with it!
  3. Well that's a bit rude, presumably you know how to spell garage though as you got it right in the first post? Don't give Black Bettie's new owner a hard time Hawkyr Im just saying theres no need to be rude about it
  4. Well that's a bit rude, presumably you know how to spell garage though as you got it right in the first post?
  5. Looks a bit steep but love those alloys, only ever seen them once in the flesh
  6. Seems overpriced to me buddy. Paid the same for our previous Zed 2.5 years ago. That was 05 GT pack and only 34k on the clock. In good condition. Granted none of the mods but depends what you want. Ed
  7. TBH 5k is probably pushing it IMHO. With these cars there are things that will need doing almost immediately if youre going to get it in tip top condition after purchase. We had double your budget and picked up a lovely example when we got our last one, 57 plate, GT, only 32k on the clock, full service history, felt that the chap had looked after it well. Despite this it still had £1k of work done to it immediately: New battery Replacement bushes with super pro ones. Wheel alignment Exhaust swap Oil change Air filters replaced Wiper blades and stubby aerial of course . Also parking sensors fitted which is obviously optional. When we had our previous Zed it was a similar story. Would be cautious but good luck Ed
  8. As others have said the Zed is really a very stable and planted car. I find it easy to drive and rewarding to drive quickly. The Mrs went from S reg 1L micra to the Zed and never killed herself. TBH when we first got it it was cold wet and the tyres were terrible, had a couple of traction control moments back then at roundabouts etc but now on MPSS with the 4 wheel alignment and winter tyres in the cold I cant remember the last time TCS came on even pushing the car. Drive sensible and the Zed will look after you. Ed
  9. The Mrs spotted it parked in the car park. She said some sort of grey/silver - shes been up all night so wasn't good with details . Hawker
  10. +1 for clean your car used them a lot of time and theyre great. Also recently used i4detailing and they were very good. Always have discount codes about too (both companies that is) Hawker
  11. Over both our Zeds we have averaged 12k/year. Its the Mrs' daily so its not a weekend toy. Ed
  12. That's cool. Hope she likes it. No doubt she will, also will give me something to kill a little time
  13. Bought, cheers GM. The Mrs will like this, a reminder of the old car
  14. What a terrible thing for someone to do. At least there were some witnesses who saw it happen, go send the fuzz round to deal with the moron. Really hope this gets resolved quickly for you. Ed
  15. Spotted this afternoon 350z, cant remember the number plate, looked private. On the back of a trailer being towed by some 4x4 or other. Drivers side door smashed up and missing the front bumper. Looked like accident damage but I guess might have been drifting though looked stock. Hope no one was in an accident and if so is safe and well? Ed
  16. Storage of a second set of wheels and tyres, finding the time and the vehicle to go get them changed in Storage is obviously an issue but really changing them you can do yourself at little cost. Trolley jack, Torque wrench, wire brush, breaker bar, appropriate sockets <£100. Took me about an hour to swap each car. Granted I then spent another few hours cleaning up the dirty wheels for storage, and applying wheel sealant to the ones going on but that's just my OCD at work Ed
  17. Yeah I'll let you tell her she should swap to something like that . Also I think a Zed with appropriate tyre is likely to perform better than something FWD with summers on ive seen lots of tests that show this is the case. Also she's not that reliant if there were any extended snow fall I'm sure they would rearrange things it's just on that day when you're stuck somewhere. They're also much better in the cold and wet than a summer tyre. I've experienced very little wear on both sets last winter all 8 tyres have remained above 7mm with 5-6k on them. Just my experience. I'm aware in our climate it's an arguable choice one way or the other. Personally I like to be prepared for the worst. Ed
  18. I know what your saying, not something I would have considered in the past but year before last I couldn't get the car 1mile from CS to our house when it snowed, damn slope to our house! Also it's my Mrs' daily and she has to do home visits and clinics where there's no public transport access so seems sensible to have. If it snows hawker I won't be driving the Zed no matter what tyres I have on it. Firstly because I'm in Wales and I can't drive anywhere locally without going up & down hills so the slightest snow fall can cause problems but also because I'm not worried about how I drive in bad weather conditions like snow, ...it's how all the other people drive that would worry me. I'll be walking 4-5 miles to work if it snows which I'd much rather do than risk someone crashing into me. Just not worth the risk to my Zed. Edit: Also do you have any idea how much a 19" 275/35 snow/winter tyre would cost!! I see exactly what you're saying, wouldn't bother either if she could have a quick walk to work but if she's doing a clinic on an industrial estate in Corby or rushden and it snows it down id much rather she could atleast get off the estate to somewhere safe rather than be stranded there in the cold, no? Cos no bugger will help her? Also I don't get the cost argument you'll just wear your summers less instead, long term very little cost Hawker
  19. Same here. Personally I don't think it's all that necessary especially if you drive accordingly to the weather conditions. E.g: leave larger braking zones between vehicles etc when needed. I know what your saying, not something I would have considered in the past but year before last I couldn't get the car 1mile from CS to our house when it snowed, damn slope to our house! Also it's my Mrs' daily and she has to do home visits and clinics where there's no public transport access so seems sensible to have. Apparently according to the weather that's happening tomorrow
  20. Hi all, I know this comes up every year. Just wondering whos got them and when your planning on swapping over. Have done mine today, I hear its getting cold next week so thought this was the right time . Ed
  21. Ahhh gotcha. Make sure the EML isn't lit like a Christmas tree before purchase (sorry a current subject on the forum) Made me chuckle . OP I have no experience so cant answer your questions but will be watching with interest, great charity, good luck . Ed
  22. Nelson I am sorry to hear that you've been conned, buying cars can be difficult and I have found it to be stressful despite not having had a problem at the end of a purchase. You've had some good advice here and kudos for dealing with this rationally and taking it all very well, I imagine I would be raging. ... All that being said my overwhelming feeling is that you shouldn't have been looking at a Zed at all. Essentially you've bought a car that was bottom of the barrel price (never mind the alarm bells of incomplete servicing and recent engine light), my presumption at this price point is that there would be something potentially serious wrong with the car given that 2004 cars go for up to 2-2.5k more depending on condition. If I was buying here in the market I would do so with 2-3k in my pocket to bring it up to spec and if not needed it would be a happy bonus. So you've bought at the bottom of the pile and then have not the money on hand to deal with the impending repairs. To me this just says you aren't in a position to run this car. What happens if 2 months after the engine is replaced something like the gearbox goes or the clutch, its another £1k bill on your hands. You will just end up resenting your car which is a real shame. This is not a cheap car to run properly. I wish you good luck with your car and do genuinely hope that its sorted out and that im wrong and you have many years of happy zedding as you seem a nice genuine chap and a welcome addition to our community. Hawker
  23. I imagine wax in the washer fluid would cause the tubes to gunk up and block, Good advice re the glass care from others Ed
