  1. That sounds right to me Thanks, the handbook I have does not relate to the Fairlady Z I have not been able to get a Fairlady Z specific manual. I would assume that a japanese one is available but I can read it!1 Thanks again
  2. Anyone any idea on pressures in PSI for import running 17" tyres? book does not give pressure in PSi only kg/cm or KPa which when converted are not the same!! JohnUKVetteNut
  3. Hi Try sport mode and see if it changes the power surge you get midrange?? if its no different then you are surely right in that the box is OK! Thenn as previously suggested air filter and throttle body clean will eliminate the basics( assuming plugs were changed on last service) Other than that you may need a "Z" mechanic to examine the car. I personally dont have any experience of who to use as I do most of my own work and have not had cause to go elswhere yet! There will be plenty of opinions on here as to who to go to so post a request for Z mechanics in your area! Best of luck JohnUKVetteNut
  4. Have you tried all the gearbox modes...see if you can feel a difference in all 3 modes. If not it could be that the gearbox has a fault . Is the traction light on at all, as this may prevent full power being delivered. You say that its been recently serviced, was it by a technician who knows 350Z/fairlady,s. Auto boxes in the uk are not well known about as i think there are no UK cars with auto fitted, they are all imports. Might be worthwhile looking at a USA website for 350Z,s as auto,s are found over there a lot. JohnUKVetteNut
  5. Hi I own ( 2years now) a 2005 auto. Its a very good auto unit. Smooth, quiet and "tiptronic" so you can manually change gear. The sport mode button allows you to redline the rev counter if you wish to which allows full power to be used. If you reach 6300 rpm and tiptronic it you get the best out of the car. Beware any auto that is not smooth or is noisy. I looked at several auto,s before i got mine and the boxes were "lumpy" in that 1 to 2 and 2 to3 were NOT smooth. Dont know if this was common fault as have not seen any postings before on auto boxes here. Be aware that auto boxes are very expensive to rebuild and would suspect that its probably cheaper to change box for a guaranteed used unit rather than repair, but thats only my opinion. No problems with my import only be aware that some imports are poorly served with "options" like cruise/satnav etc and of course brembo brakes. 6. Hi my roadster sqeaks...where and what is a strut brace or what should i check having a roadster? thanks johnukvettenut
  7. Hi Folks my 2005 Import has just started "squeeling" for about a second from cold start up only. Am I right in guessing its a belt? If so which is the usual suspect? 55K miles only Cheers JohnUKVeteNut
  8. Yes DBlock you are righ,t but I had the jack on the diff housing to lift both rear wheels at the same time and it slipped sideways off the circular diff housing as I was attempting to put the first axle stand under the rear end, then the front stands twisted and all just went wrong after that. I guess that the front axle stands I had were a very narrow "footprint" base. I then replaced them with wide base stands but now reluctant to stands at all!!! The large plastic ones( thanks GMballistic) look very stable but I am trying to find out their dimensions! Again thanks for responses guys. JohnUKVetteNut
  9. Yes. I could do that but I have not got a low height trolley jack, and as I had an unhappy experience with a car on axlestands( my previous car was a Corvette) and I managed to get 2 front axlestands under it then attempted to jack up the rear on the diff ( bad idea as I found out)and it nearly got where i could slip the axlestands under and it slipped sideways.....caught my foot and then both the front axlestands twisted and the car just slid off and trapped the axlestands under itself. All I got was a bruised shin and very damaged ego!! Luckily car was ok, so thats why I was trying to go the ramps way!! Long story but that explains my preference for ramps. JohnUKVetteNut
  10. Hi Folks I am now thinking of anti rusting the underneath of my import JDM...was never done when brought in, and showing some rust signs. As winter is approaching it would be the ideal time. My question is to "what ramp width" do I need allow wide wheels to run up ok? My tyres are 245 wide but the only ramps i can see are up to 200 wide? Anyone help me choose please? I already have the ramp extenders ( early xmas pressie!) for low front end to run up ok. Cheers JohnUKVetteNut
  11. welcome from an older ( me not the car) 350z owner in Attleborough. .great forum here with lots of very knowledgeable/ helpful people. JohnUKvetteNut ( ex Corvette owner who wished he had found 350Z,s sooner)
  12. Hi Folks Due to a slight feathering in my rear inside edge on tyres I am putting it in for a 4 wheel align, ment check/adjust. My car is a 2005 roadster. The manual i have gives a toe in reading of 0 to 2mm, but it does not say if this is total toe or each side? If anyone can give me the complete list i should ask the alignment people to try for i would greatly appreciate your advice. car is daily driver with some spirited driving now and then. No track work yet! It handles faultlessly, doesnt skip hop or veer any way other than true. Cheers JohnUKVetteNut
  13. Yes...alignment is next port of call. Car has only done 46K total miles. No damage since import and cant find any signs except front bumper has been proffesionally heated/dent pulled out in 1 small area near grille. Have (also local garage has) looked all over car for me when I 1st got and we both agree all is well. will post after 4 wheel align and give results. JohnUKVetteNut
  14. OK thanks...seems the way to go. Anyone know in the Norwich area of a good 4 wheel alignment place? Previous car was a Corvette and gave up locally getting a good job and ended up in Kent at Corvette centre ( Claremont). Admitted Corvette,s are pigs to align as everything is adjustable. I am hoping that the Z,ds are straightforward. Will post when sorterd. Thanks for guidance. JohnUKVetteNut
  15. Hi Tyres are standard 235/17 front and 245/17 rears, they are not wide or touching anywhere. Do you know if the rear tracking is adjustable or could something be bent? Cheers JohnUKVetteNut
  16. Hi ( Car is JDM 2005) Checking out my pad wear yesterday I noticed that both my rear tyres only were feathering ( only slightly) on the inside edge ? Any ideas? fronts were fine. Tyres are Avon zz3 with 6mm tread. I think that you may call it cupping as another name for this? Any help appreciated JohnUKVetteNut
  17. Thank you for reply..its settled my mind on the matter! JohnUKVetteNut
  18. Hi Folks Just checking about how to tell if my diff is lsd or not. I have put rear of car on axle stands and rotated wheel and opposite side rotates in the same direction. Am i right in saying that I have an LSD ( its a JDM so assume its viscous type) and conversely if it rotated contra to the side i turned it has no LSD? Looking forward to comments please! JohnUKVetteNut
  19. Hi...Nooooo wish it did but JDM means Japanese Domestic Market...basically means an import not a UK spec car!! Mine is the base model. Auto and Roadster. The slowest of all Z'ds I believe. Still quick enough though. Does not have all the toys in the base model( No cruise, no steering wheel buttons at all, no LSD I believe, no SatNav the missing list is endless) BUT it does have auto dipping mirrors when reverse is engaged to aid seeing when going backwards which I found a great help. See you soon hopefully JohnUKVEtteNut
  20. Hi and Welcome. I am in Attleborough.. What a cracking colour!! Did have a small meet recently and pretty sure something should come up again soon???? From johnukvettenut..( old timer in a JDM auto roadster)
  21. Thank you...will try credit card only. Cheers . JohnUKVetteNut.
  22. Hi...May seem a novice question, how do you remove repeaters ? I want to upgrade to led,s and want see if i can actually get an led in and wire bup the necessary resistor? Cheers JohnUKVEtteNut
  23. Hi Buy it...very good price if its "right" with history/matching numbers. So many are a mix of donor engines/transmissions and interiors. Should it be a mix of components then a reduced price would still be acceptable for the year/mileage. Compared to a Z its as fast in a straight line ( dependant on engine model) not all C3's had the same engine, it WILL not go round corners or stop anywhere as well as a Z Maintenance will be easy but parts sourced from UK will be expensive , if you have friend in USA then parts are reasonable even with shipping and import duty. Worrking on them is OK if you have the skill of a basic mechanic. I had 2 x C4 Corvettes over a 20 year period and did all work myself and never came across anything I could not handle and I was a plumber!!.MPG is about same around town but with a heavy right foot you will struggle around 15/16 mpg or 10mpg track days! Driving is pleasure......t tops off and listen to a far better exhaust note than my 2005 Z (Fairlady)!! Insurance should be far cheaper than a same value Z. Corvettes dont get stolen very often! JohnUKVetteNut
  24. Hi Just for info my 2005 roadster automatic gets 300 miles per tank full( includes some spirited driving which i beieive is a requirement to keep valves etc clear of deposits) and 360miles when on a sunny day cruise session. its done 45k miles Johnukvettenut
