  1. OK I'll live with it then! johnukvettenut
  2. Hi Folks My 2005 Zed is reading 10% fast on the speedo at all speeds! 30mph is reading 33mph 50mph is reading 55mph 80mph is reading 88mph checked it out with a Garmin sat nav which (garmin say) is accurate to 0.5 mph Can they be recalibrated or do i just live with it? JohnUKVetteNut
  3. Hi Folks Just to say I checked ( as advised here to get age of tyres) the date code on my original bridgestones and they are entitled to be cracked....the date code is 2605. So i presume week 26 in 2005?. my car was made in July 2005..so original tyres?? amazing!! mileage works out at 29k kms before import and about 7k miles after import! so total is 27k miles approx!! Still got 4mm tread! ( possibly in Japan it had after market wheels and the originals were put back on for export?) JohnUKVetteNut
  4. Hi Folks My old car was a Corvette...my new zed is a shorter car and i called it my pocket rocket 'cause it small and very fast..no disrespect to Zed's intended. JohnUKVetteNut
  5. Hi Folks BHP is 206KW or 280 PS @6200rpm..this is what original spec sheet says. I think its 280 BHP (around that). Yes problems seem to abound here with tyres..but I think its mainly that JDM tyres are higher ratios (50) than UK spec cars and so there is not so much experience posted on forum related to these, and of course availability of JDM size is limited..452's, sessanta's,MPSS,FI assy, and lots of others are just not made in my size!! The only tyres I have had personal use of ( in my previous Corvette 300hp and 170MPH) are Avon ZZ3 and GSD3's and Maxxis MAV1's. Tha Avons and gsd3's were noisy and the Maxxis were good all round but not available in this country, so at present am looking to see if I can get some imported?? I do tend to investigate things maybe too thoroughly!! And the Zed tyres are way more expensive to buy than my Corvette, even though the Corvette tyres were much wider! But that car is history now and have a pocket rocket to learn about!! JohnUKVetteNut
  6. Yes , unfortunately i have only been with them a short while and to change insurers now would cost me dear!! Especially as my quote from them was £385 fully comp, business use as well and most other companies were in the £600 to £750 price to insure a JDM ( uk spec cars were much cheaper to insure) Just to raise your anger a little more ( not for my enjoyment) I also asked about 18" wheels that were an option from new..they asked to send them the build sheet/spec sheet showing them as an option and they would look at "approving" the fitment of these. I owned 2 Corvettes over 18 years and never had any grief from them over wheels/tyres/modifications at all. all i had to do was tell them what was fitted and amended their records to suit..no fee's either! JohnUKVetteNut PS love my Zed now 1400 miles in just over 5 weeks, and found out ( with dry roads now) the fun of Sport mode in tiptronic with TCS off..what an adrenaline rush!! may not be as fast as my Vettes but way more FUN.
  7. Hi Folks My 2005 auto/roadster is 4 weeks old to me and have been trying to find out wether its got an LSD or not? I did email Nissan japan with vin number and they checked and said yes!! I did get off the internet a "nissan workshopmanual" cd and reading through it appears to say all auto's had lsd and manuals were optional lsd's in 2005 anyway! The lsd is the low effective viscous type not a plate type. Just thought i would pass that on JohnUKVetteNut
  8. Hi folks my fairlady/auto/roadster is 4 weeks old to me ( 2005 car). just about to service her and found "no jack" in boot. I presume that it lives on rear right hand side nearest to back of car with the tools? The tools are there. I would feel that the jack is a standard type scissor jack..so anyone know what model car I can buy a jack for that will do my job? I have emailed where I bought it from but as yet have no reply. Probably quicker just to buy one but which? JohnUKVetteNut
  9. Thanks for that... just to say i contacted insurers again and they have no probs with new "non-OEM" make of tyres its just they would not accept a non "OEM" ratio as Abbey suggested! May have a cheeky low price stab at Ebay 18" rays !! At least they are OEM wheels ( optional) in build spec. JohnUKVettEnut
  10. OK can take a hint!! Will take it from here and post when tyres fitted and on THANKS to all for help JohnUKVetteNut
  11. Hi Folks update on JDM tyres Mark at Abbeymotorsport rsearched the tyres and in the end suggested I change to 235/45/17 and 245/45/17 ( lower aspect ratio) and a greater tyre choice! Just contacted my insurer to run this by them and as a non standard tyre size is to be fitted they would refuse to insure me!! RAC insurance fully comp. cover So plan b then...I am trying to pick up a set of 18" alloys ( option on my model car so inurance is happy) or if too expensive to buy wheels and tyres then back to :- Toyo T1-R Avon ZZ3 or another option from a USA car club " Maxxis MAZ4S victra" ?? anyone know anything about them? Cheers John UKVetteNut
  12. Hi Folks Update on JDM tyres...have cancelled order for toyo tyres ( mytyres were very obliging in this matter) and have contacted Abbeymotorsport( as suggested in tis forum) and talked with them as JDM tyres are not easy to get in both the sizes. Abbey are looking into it for me but so far they suggest Avon ZZ3, Toyo T1-R but looking at other options for me and will get back weds or thursday. Also suggested that maybe a used set of 18"tyres and wheels may be the way to go? have done club "for sale" look see and ebay search but nothing at present! Will post news as and when I move forward!1 JohnUKVetteNut
  13. Hi folks i have had contact from Nissan Japan and emailed me a basic build sheet..(very courteous and quick service) and did confirm that i have a LSD ( viscous type fitted) so as my car is a base JDM model i assume that means all JDM's have lsd? They are also sending me ( by post free of charge) a copy of the factory build sheet! Brilliant service..just wish our UK car makers had the same outlook on their customers JohnUKVetteNut
  14. Hi Folks Well we see how they go! A softer tyre and higher wear rate I can live with. As you say I can always up the psi to compensate. I will go easy first 100 miles and gently up the speeds to 500miles use. The way i am using zed at this time it will only take a week or 2( subject to weather) As for the Conti's they are not recommended for JDM rear size (235/50/17 )as they were specially made for Porsche( lighter rear end on car) and are "soft" tyre (N?) compound( or load rate) i think and not suitable for the 350 as its way too heavy,,,thats what the tech people at conti told me 3 days ago! They said that if i chose to use them they strongly recommended I contact my insurer first to get approval or it may invalidate any claim i made. GSD 3's are an old tyre ( I beleive they dont make them anymore?) so not sure how old a set may have been? Anyway thanks all for input..decision made now so will have to live with it!! JohnUKVetteNut
  15. Hi Folks After long deliberation and much "tyres" section reading have ordered Toyo T1-S tyres. £466 inc vat and delivery. 225/50/17 and 235/50/17. Will run them in and let you know how i get on! Hope they are not "ditchfinders"!! JohnUKVetteNut ( 4 weeks and 1500 miles) PS had a close look at my RE040 stones and they are cracking up along sidewall and around edge of treads on the two outer treads on all tyres? I have only seen this on very old tyres before. is it something stones are known for?
  16. Hi Leroy Yes have been through ALL pages but JDM tyres are very limited availability compared to UK supplied cars ( 18" wheels and tyres) and I was after the quieter tyres of the two i have shortlisted. I will await any more replies so I can make decision Thanks for reply

    JDM tyres

Hi Folks Have narrowed down tyre choice for my import ( 225/50/17 and 235/50/17) to Goodyear Eagle GSD'3 Conti contact sport 3's both about same price which ones, spirited driving but no track work yet would prefer quieter tyre JohnUKVetteNut
  18. Hi Folks Just to let you know I contacted Nissan Uk to check my car and they cannot help as its imported. But they gave me Nissan email in Japan and I emailed them and 12 hours later got a reply asking for vin number and they would send me a "build sheet" from their records!! So have sent vin and awaiting reply..will post outcome John UKVetteNut
  19. Hi Mike, thanks for that Thats put the cat amongst the pigeons... According to that chart all Fairlady imports have a viscous lsd as standard, but I have read on this forum about JDM's that lsd's were not fitted to base Fairlady models? So does anyone know how to visually tell if I have a lsd or not please? The upside is i now know what the gear ratios are for an auto so I can work out whether my speedo is accurate or not! Very usefull download..thank you JohnUKVetteNut
  20. Hi Folks Nearly had my Zed 1 month now!! Is there any site where I can check its vin number for a build sheet or find out just what my car was fiited with from the factory? Its a JDM import Fairlady auto/convertible. Thanks JohnUKVetteNut
  21. Hi Folks looked at Eagle F1 assymetrics but not available in my front size 225/50/17 ! could get runflats in those but not runflats in the other size! so no pairs are available in F1? What tyres do other JDM owners with 17" wheels use?? JohnUKVetteNut
  22. Hi seems my JDM tyres are not available in makes most chosen...sesanta,falken 452,even re50,s dont come in my size 225/50/17 and 235/50/17. So have narrowed search down to Goodyear GSD3 F1 Avon ZZ3 Toyo T1 R Proxes Kumho KU31 which ones?all in my price range. Spirited driving but no track work yet. Given choice the quietist road noise would be favoured (got bridgestone 40,s at present)) Thanks JohnUKVetteNut 3 week z owner ( 1200 miles so far and smile gets wider every drive)
  23. OK give 912's a miss and food for thought on the rest..again thanksfor help Will let you all know what way i go JohnUKVetteNut
  24. Hi My JDM will need new tyres this summer. have 040's at present. My tyre size is 225/50/17 and 235/50/17 and cant get Falken 452's in both these sizes! ( having read the tyre review section these seemed a good idea!) Have been reading up on alternatives and Falken 912's seem a viable alternative. Anyone actually used them who could direct me on how good/bad they are. Spirited driving with no track work ( yet). My budget is under £500 for all 4 tyres so am limited to quality here. Guidance please. JohnUKVetteNut
  25. cruising? whats that? My z just loves to go!! JohnUKVetteNut
