  1. That's the problem, "road tax" isn't really road tax For more info there was a thread in the 350z section: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=51620 They will always find another way to tax motorists though as one; they know almost everyone needs a vehicle and two; no one in this country will protest/strike for long enough for it to have a significant effect on the economy (like they do in France). What we really need is for all the haulage companies to start blocking the roads and pumps again, but in this financial climate, no company can afford to do that, either way it is win:win for the government, no matter who is in charge.
  2. Like Double said, I think you could get a newer car for the same money if you look around or at least a car with Rays (IMO they look a hell of a lot better). 25k miles is good though for a car of that age.
  3. Not too sure on that one. Doubt it as I would say they class it as a "car" but I wouldn't be surprised if they included them soon to get rid of the classic cabs. Any pre 1973 vehicle is exempt too, so you VW Campervan drivers are safe .
  4. A friend had the same sort of issue, he built a home gym and his neighbours complained (even though they said they wouldn't) that he didn't get permission to do so. The council investigated it and said it wasn't an issue. On the funny side of it though, whilst taking the complaint and meeting his neighbour, they discovered they had a wood/coal burning fireplace and told them they would have to remove it as it breaks their environmental clean air policy , they had just spent £7k on getting it installed too .
  5. Pick up trucks registered before 2002 are affected as are "light" 4x4's. Someone at work has a 4x4 Jeep from the 90's and they have been hit by this now too. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/
  6. I was wondering if they would include cars soon too... I wonder if modern cars will be okay though (like our 350z's) and they would just target the 1995 BMW type sheds on the road. Either way, they will eventually price everyone off the roads in London.
  7. Any before and after pictures?
  8. Love it. If I was called to that I would be laughing my rear end off for the rest of the day. I was issued a ticket in May. Their only record of my car was the registration. I knew they never had access to PNC or a car database as under make and model it had N/K (no Nissan badges on my car any more). I binned it and told the other 20 people in the car park to do the same.
  9. That's brilliant. It's only 165KM though!
  10. In January they are increasing the range of vehicles that are caught in the emissions zone in London (within the M25). This effectively means if you drive a van the size of a VW T4 that was built before 2003, you will have to pay for a new emissions filter for the vehicle and get it tested on a yearly basis (about £37) and this isn't done at the yearly MOT. A colleague at work found his van is affected and after calling around the list of "authorised" sellers for the new filter (I assume a new cat) it will set him back about £1800. Does any one know if there is a way around this? (legally). I mean, could he go to a garage and have a better/cleaner exhaust installed with a newer cat on? His van isn't even worth £1500, so spending £1700 on a new part just so he can drive it into London is a waste, however, the resale value of these type of vans has/will plummet...

    Tax...

"Road TAX" is basically a tax on emissions, which is why some cars pay £0 a year. (Nerdy fact alert!): Road tax was abolished by Winston Churchill in 1937. This is the same argument cyclists have when people shout at them about not paying to be on the road, technically neither are motorists, they just pay to pollute it. The main issue I have with VEL is that we never see where our yearly payment goes. As it is swallowed up by other government spending. General taxation pays for the upkeep of roads, hence why our local councils don't repair roads, if they were getting a percentage of "road tax" they wouldn't have an issue. For info, on my 57 plate 350Z I paid £435, a 2011 plate GTR I see on a daily basis near work pays the same .
  12. HOW MUCH!!! Almost makes me want to cry
  13. Good to see some pictures. I tend to go super overboard when I go and take hundreds of pictures . Car should be back on the road Thursday and the best part is... no insurance companies involved .
  14. He is probably now spending the next 40 years in the Gulag... lots of time to reminisce about his "ordeal"
  15. Hi. After reading a thread in the main section of the forum, I wondered have you any further details on the cost for a Milltek exhaust? If I was to get one, I'd be interested in a remap too but need to get a ballpark figure .
  16. Didn't know about that meet, I would have gone but I'm working Saturday . I may have to start getting to the Surrey meets as the seem the most common meet near to me (within 30 minutes anyway).
  17. My wheels are constantly getting covered too. Rimwax seems to help cleaning them though. I find myself giving the wheels a clean once a week.
  18. I got my 57 plate in February for just over £15k, but that was from a dealer. I have seen a few for about £13500 on Auto Trader since, but not sure on the condition etc.
  19. I've always wondered what he would think of the 370z. He is always going on about why buy X car when you could get another for a lot less with the same equipment. The 370z is probably the best value for money sports car out there. Looks better than a TT too (although the new TT is stunning).
  20. You mean they don't close the road for us like they did on Top Gear?
  21. I can fully recommend the milltek system, it's a lovely quality note that's not intrusive when cruising. I've just upgraded mine with the addition of the berks HFCs which abbey also provides and the car now sounds amazing. Would definitely recommend them although it does add to the cost. Cheers . I'll have to look at the prices now (maybe with one eye only ). Need to get my car back on the road first after a small shunt on Friday .
  22. Sounds great . Wish we didn't have to wait for the pictures!
  23. Sounds good. Are they okay to live with for a daily drive though? I don't think I could handle a raspy exhaust for the commute etc .
