  1. Just a bit more of an update! It looks like I'm starting in Jan as I've asked to stay on with my old employer a little longer to finish up some projects - Christmas is the worst time for me to leave them. It should make it possible to keep the Zed and run a daily driver at the same time, while saving a deposit for a flat. I'm going to look at a Fabia tonight which is perfect for me and really well priced. If I'm wrong then I can always sell the Zed. Having a 2nd car doesn't make it a huge inconvenience as I'll still be mobile. Really appreciate everyones advice!
  2. I have this and it drives me insane. Where exactly should the WD40 be sprayed? I've already given most of what I can see a spray with white silicone grease and it's still clicking.
  3. Get an old mouse pad and cut it onto strips. Worked wonders in my 1994 MX5
  4. Im holding off on the flat/house for the moment! That isn't an issue anymore. Plus I'm not struggling to pay off the loan payments - nothing is a struggle! The £2k I'm looking at spending on a car is the TOTAL including the insurance and tax. I've been sitting on the cash for a while with nothing to spend it on. If it keeps the Zed safe during the winter and makes my current commute to work extremely cheap then I think it's a wise idea. Nothing is set in stone yet - need to see just how much extra it will cost to insure. I'll find that out and go from there.
  5. I'm also taking part! uk.movember.com/mospace/1884108 I'm 28 but painfully babyfaced, so Ive been getting a really rough ride about it at work. I figured if I can do it, anyone can do it, and I'm determined to raise the most money in my office. If you can spare some change it'd really mean a lot, and it's for a good cause too.
  6. Plan at the moment is to spend no more than £2k to get a economical car for the commute and use the Zed at the weekends. If I get the job then I will have the car ready for the drives - and until then I'll probably only have to fill it up once a month with my current commute. As for renting vs buying - I really don't want to rent, it feels like throwing money down the drin and will just make it harder when saving to buy somewhere.
  7. Oh for the love of god can we please wait till the new year when I'm not saving every pound an penny?! I want a bulge so bad!
  8. Hey all, Thanks for the advice - it's great to hear other peoples opinions, both confirming or opposing. Haven't been able to respond till now as I've been doing another money saving exercise - breaking up with the gf! After reading the replies and some thought, and not talking things over with a girlfriend, I'm going to be looking for a economical runabout for a maximum of £2k. I plan to add it to a multicar policy and drastically reduce the miles I do per year in the Zed and see how the insurance works out. If I can afford to keep it as a weekend car, and have something economical enough to only fill up 2 times a month (possible in my current job) it should work out ok. Push comes to shove I can sell the Zed with no pressure of finding a replacement. Finding my first home can wait a little longer while I build up some savings. Any suggestions for the runabout are welcome!
  9. Have already spoken to Sarnie I'm planning for a worst-case scinario anyway!
  10. Hello all, I'm struggling with some sizeable decisions would would appreciate some input or different points of view. This is where the forum comes in Currently, I'm on a low-ish paid job and living 7miles away from work with my parents. I don't pay rent, so my only serious outgoing is the car, and loan repayments from the loan I used to buy the car. I'm not struggling for money but I'm not saving a great deal either. However, I was lucky enough to receive £2000 back from my bank after claiming a PPI refund. I also have about £3000 in an account that my parents set up for me a while back. It's very possible that I'm about to be offered a new job, on significantly more money than I am on at the moment (a 10k rise), however I would be working 30miles from home. The my new salary would enable me to get a mortgage (using a first time buyer scheme) for a flat I've been looking at on a new build estate. Ive spoken to the mortgage people and on my new salary they would be more than happy to offer me a mortgage for the flat (or something even bigger). The £5000 I have saved already, plus a little more saving (to bring it up to £7000 would be enough for the deposit. But I can't seem to make a decision on I would to about the car. The job pays well enough for me to keep the car - but possibly not with mortgage repayments as well. A ) Do I sell the Zed to buy something really nice but more economical? B ) Use the £2000 I have already and buy something cheaper and economical, sell the Zed to eliminate the loan repayments (almost entirely). This would require more time saving to get a deposit together. C ) Same as above but keep both cars D ) Use the £2000 to get the Zed LPG converted. Still have a nice car, costing less to run The loan still has about £7k to pay off (£160 a month) I appreciate I should probably wait until I know about the job - already had 3 interviews and there are no other candidates in the running - but the thought of having to sort this mess out is giving me headaches. So, hive mind, what do you think?
  11. That's exactly why I'd like them without the tyres - if they have to be replaced I'd rather not pay for them to be shipped
  12. How much for these without the tyres, shipped to Kent?
  13. I'm trying to figure out what is causing the hard changes into 2nd and 5th at the moment. It's much worse when the car is cold. What gearbox oil should have been put in when it was serviced? Seems to have been worse since then. What else could it be syncros?
  14. For really long term protection, would a clear wrap on the bonnet and front panels be good if the paint is perfect? Been pondering this myself...
  15. This has to be a scam! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... 421349856/ I emailed the seller, and got this response. I'm in the south east, as far away from the car as possible. Anyone in Thurso wanna go kick a tyre? lol
  16. Been told there ARE possibly 4wd golfs....anyone know how to tell them apart? Diesel Golfs are well priced on Autotrader, if I could find a 4wd one on there i'd be happy!
  17. I'd love a Golf, but I really want the 4WD due to where I live and where I might be working soon. Autotrader is looking pricey for A3's, but ebay has some reasonable ones on offer.....just not near me.

  19. After a bit of thinking, an A3 would probably be more suitable for me. Love the A1s but they are way out of my price range at the moment!
  20. ebay link Yup I sold the MX5 to John tarantula, who has now bought a 350Z and sold the MX5 to a the Driftworkz crew I like to keep track of my old MX5 Being a quattro is also important, as I live in the countryside, and possibly changing jobs in an even harder to reach area! Determined to stay mobile this winter.
