  1. Admiral or Elephant (same company) have always been the cheapest for me even without multi-car policy. They also came up with the goods when I needed to make a claim.
  2. 30? Why start now? We've just had our first at 41. What's the rush? Enjoy the car for a bit longer. Or just keep it. I have. It's my kid free zone :-)
  3. really? its a 7" pad it needs an inch space all round? so does that mean i need to find an 8" pad for a 6" backing plate? on i4 detailing they say a 6" backing plate is good for pads from 6"-8" All depends on the pad really. The megs have a lip on them and the disc can cut into them if it is too big as I found out. I did some searching about this and found someone else with the same problem and the recommended suggestion was to use a smaller disc. I gave it a go and that solved my problems. There's no way I will attempt a 6" disc with a 7" megs soft buff pad again. Too expensive. Why do you want to use the black hole glaze? That's for filling swirl/scratches. Isn't the idea of use a machine polisher to remove the swirl marks in the first place? Seems a bit of a waste. Jim
  4. What's a theory test? Never had them when I took a driving exam
  5. If you are going to use the megs pads then you need to use a 5" disc. Not the 6" one like I did when I got my DA with 5 and 6" discs or you will end up cutting the pads to bits.
  6. Thanks. Meant to say that I cleaned mine yesterday. The gasket seems rubber rather than paper so seems to be reusable. The worst part was dropping the socket head allen tool under the plenum! Trust blue tack on the end of a rod came to the rescue - yet again. Jim
  7. Would be useful to see a photo of the other side. At the moment it looks like the piece of rubber the sits on the top of the wing, half way down, to the side of the strut bar in line with the weather seal. There should be one on each wing.
  8. Far enough away for us not to be spotted on the same road ;-) I'm on South Meadow. Been here since '93! Jim
  9. It's easier removing the wheels. More room, less cut knuckles.
  10. The liner is easy. You only remove the front portion of the liner. Four or five small bolts under the car. A few more and a screw along the side of the liner. Then slide it out. I have a trolley jack but actually used the car's jack for this job.
  11. 1. wheel off. 2. wheel arch liner off. 3. take out bulb 4. put new bulb in. 5. refit wheel arch liner. 6. put wheel back on. 7. have a cigar
  12. I got married in Malta. Took the whole family over. It was still cheaper than in the UK. Nicer too and didn't feel like I was being ripped off at every turn!
  13. Do I need to put a new gasket in when replacing the throttle body after cleaning it? I'm assuming there is a gasket between it and the plenum. Jim
  14. I love Malta. Good job they've had the roads rebuilt since joining the EU otherwise you'd be sticking to a 4x4. I haven't been able to get ove to Malta for 3 years now. Used to got every year since 1998 for scuba diving. I think Malta has lost a little character since having the roads repaired! How come you didn't decide to drive the car over? TomTom can route the whole journey now. It would have been a great drive in a Z.
  15. Here's the fix. It's in the guide section... http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=21318
  16. Could do. Where in Crowthorne are you and why did you have to go and buy a Kuro! I thought I was the only Kuro in the village. Time to buy that GT40!
  17. Actually, I only need to spiral cable module from a facelift model if I want the button lighting to "dim" when the headlights come on. Otherwise, I can still have the illumination on full if I connect the 8th wire to ground in the steering wheel or I could add a resistor or variable resistor to set the amount of illumination. I think I'll get a facelift spiral cable module though so that the buttons illumination is controlled along with all the other lights.
  18. I saw a white nismo Z in a disabled space at Tesco's in Camberley the other week. Naughty boy. The thing is, late in the evening (10pm) most of the cars if not all of them in the disabled spaces are not occupied by disabled drivers. I guess if they are too lazy to walk then they must be disabled. I think of parent and child spaces as extra room because the kids and to some extend the parents don't know how to get in and out of a car without smacking the door against the car next to them. So leave them for the parents and children and hopefully less chance of getting your own car dinged in a normal space. Well wishful thinking anyway. Anyway, sorry to hear you had a bad day. I bet you won't do that again in a hurry.
  19. New switches now in - had to source them from a scrap merchant via ebay. Was almost as much as a new set and I still had to repaint them! The air bag bolts came out easily. I really don't know what people are doing if they are stripping these bolts. You just need to correct tool for the job. To make the buttons illuminate I need a facelift spiral cable/clock spring module and the 05 ones have one missing pin on the module which I believe carries the power for the button lights.
  20. It would appear that to have illuminated steering controls I need a facelift spiral cable / clock spring module. Then I need to add an extra wire to the connector to feed to lights in the buttons.
  21. I'm going to fit a facelift steering button assembly into my pre-facelift GT. All the wiring for the buttons should be there as I already have that functionality. My question is, how do I get the button illumination to work? Has anyone done this and can you let me know the secret please :-) Jim
  22. Sounds like a wheel bearing on its way out.
  23. Any update on this? Lee says he has a set and was going to clean them up and send some pictures but haven't heard from him in a week despite pming him :-( Jim
