  1. I think they are called Black Chrome, i had them done at MyAlloys in Basingstoke. Was pretty pleased with them. Happy to meet up if you want a closer look.
  2. HOLY BALLS!!!! After three years I have finally been spotted! Yeah, that we me! I would have waved if i had seen you but i had my hands full annoying the BMW driver behind me!
  3. Would have been better if it had been sunny and you had employed a hot girl to wash the car in a bikini while you took too the directors chair. Other then that, good effort!
  4. Bloody Kaiser Chiefs, its all their fault!
  5. I had a weird one at around 7.30pm last night. I launched the forum bookmark on my mobile (Android using the chrome browser) which is meant to (and has always) taken to me to the active topics. This time it too me to a page saying something along the lines on "Sorry, you search could not be preformed at this time." This was on the forum and after that i was able to click "View Active Topics" with no issues.

    Its a car called Desire!
  7. Well i have learn something new about MyISAM today. Having worked with MS SQL for so many years, i have trouble getting my head around some of the design choice of other products. Either that or MyISAM is actually rubbish! Anyho, best of luck for the switch!
  8. Sounds like you have things covered. Does the sessions table link to many other tables? My guess would be that it is one of more of those relationships that is causing the locking issue. Using a transactional engine such as InnoDB will solve the above problem, but if the design is flawed it is likely to bite you in the arse again.
  9. No, apologies but will have to decline, I personally will not pay you to fix this issue as the net benefits to me alone would not cover this cost. The forum currently uses money from traders and other sources to pay for web hosting, domain names, bbq's, cups of tea, flyers, name badges + all sorts of other things. If the forum decides to utilise its funds to pay you then that is a possible course of action to remedy the problem. On the note of a thread detailing down time. -thread starts -people agree -problem is being fixed -people wait -people get frustrated -thread is continued You asked us to wait while it was sorted, that seems a fairly obvious reason for the thread to stay quiet. If you think the downtime doesnt exist then run a poll and find out. I think this is a bit harsh. The primary focus of this forum is as a free resource for 350z owners. It provides a social environment for people to share their experiences and in some cases seek help. It is not designed with the sole purpose of support traders. While i can understand the frustrations of not being able to ply your trade during downtime, if that is your primary focus of the site i suggest you look at more specialised means of doing so, such as your own website, email system or ads around the internet. On a technical note, I know from experience that problems like this can be utter bar stewards to trace. From the little I know about the steps they are taking to resolve this issue, I can tell you that it is a substantial undertaking for dedicated, full time professionals let alone people working part time who's expertise may lie in a total different area. The above is just my opinion relating to how I use the forum, I am not taking sides.
  10. Do you know much about MySQL and MyISAM/InnoDB? I know a lot of DBAs in my field of work but they are all DB2 and Oracle based being that they work for big firms. The problems we are looking at are tuning these to the size that the forum has now become. MySQL is good out the box for small forums, but as we have so many people logging on at once now its becoming overwhelmed (not a hardware issue) with table locking. We're moving table(s) over to InnoDB as we think this will solve it FWIW the forum isnt acutally crashing, its hitting near deadlock as tables become locked and all queries are queued behind it. This queue eventually gets so long that the server takes a long time to recover. Google/Bing bots live on here and make lots of requests which make the queue grow very quickly too. Its not a hardware issue as the server has loads of resource left, its an internal bottleneck of MySQL and MyISAM. Sadly, i specialise in MS SQL, but i do have limited experience with MySQL. You mention that its not a hardware issue, so i assume that you still have available I/O resources on your disk system during these lock ups? In terms of the choice between MyISAM and InnoDB, I would say that you are best of with InnoDB. The reason for this is that disk operation's are managed by the engine rather then the OS. I believe it also organises the table data by the primary key, rather than a LIFO stack. There is however in inherent limit on the number of transactions that this engine can preform in a given period and while i dont think a site of this size (No offence ) would trouble that limit, it worth keeping in mind. If you are experiencing true deadlocks then the engine change may not be enough to solve your problems. You may find that normalizing\denormalizing the table structure will solve a deadlock issue best.
  11. You mentioned that you thought it might be a DB Design issue. I am a DBA and i am happy to act as a second set of eyes if you think it would help. Steve

  13. I am going to attempt to cycle to work 3 days a week when i get back from holiday. My plan is to cycle in from my house on a Monday morning (35 Miles) and then to my parents Monday night (18 miles). Tuesday morning from my parents to work (18 miles) and then to my girlfriends Tuesday evening (11 miles). From hers to work Wednesday morning (11 miles) and then back to my house on Wednesday evening (35 miles). So that's 120 miles..................
  14. I am going for the weekend and staying in Whittlebury Hall, with most of the drivers...............

  16. I believe my point still stands. The average worker get 4 weeks out of the office per year (excluding public holidays). A teacher gets six weeks over summer, two weeks over Christmas and Easter and three, week long half terms. That's 13 weeks, give or take. Say they were to work 9-5, Monday to Friday. How long do you think it would take them to finish all of the extra work not covered in school days? I agree with you that if a parent is not bothered to take an interest in their child's education, what hope do they have? I was not having a go at you as a teacher. The difference between a good teacher who cares and one that is just doing a job is like night and day. I wonder what percentage of people striking yesterday would fall into the latter category?
  17. I know its a separate point aside from remuneration, but wasn't there a report last week stating that 50% of schools are failing to meet their targets? I was in the education system not so long ago and i was able to see with my own eyes, the standard to teaching and the quality of what was being taught falling. I work in the private sector and i would expect action to be taken if i was failing to meet targets that were set. I don't envy teachers, they have a very hard job. You could take my salary, double it and then double it again and i would still not want to face a class full of scrots. However, there is no getting away from the fact that the nature of their job allows them many advantages over other jobs. The main one of these advantages being the holidays. Yes, you may have to do a bit of marking and Yes, you may have to plan some lessons but you are still free to do this on your own time and you can't seriously expect people to believe that this is anything other then a minor interruption to your otherwise free time. As a side note, I hope RTBiscuit uses better spelling, punctuation and grammar when teaching his class then he does on the forum.
  18. I was the person that tried to fix the skipping with Silica gel. I just shoved a few of the little packets that you find in shoes into the tape deck. Have had it in for almost a year and while it does not totally fix the problem, its a MASSIVE improvement. On really rainy days (Like today) it can play up a bit, but most days its fine. Give it a try.
  19. I have a Galaxy S 2 and i had a Galaxy S before that. The first one was a fantastic phone but required quite a bit of tinkering to get the best out of it. The S2 is awesome straight out of the bow. The processor is fast enough to dispatch any task with ease, it really is like lightning. I have never owned an Apple product, nor would i. They are too restrictive. There are also many many reviews stating that while the S2 and the sensation are well matched, the S2 is just ahead in most areas. I believe that the S2 is the best phone out there at the mo, and most reviews seems to agree with me.
  20. Its also not just up to the car. The type of person driving the car will also contribute to the rate of fatalities. Unfortunately, i stumbled across this article with looking for information on an accident that happened last night. Two boys and a girl (19,17 and 18) were driving late last night when the driver lost control of the car and rolled it. The two boys are in hospital with serious injuries, while the 17 year old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. She had not been wearing her seatbelt.....
  21. I stumbled across this today: http://rumors.automobilemag.com/iihs-suvs-safer-cars-nissan-350z-titan-drivers-highest-fatality-rate-52041.html Its basically an information agency in America that has compiled a list of all fatal accidents (in the US) between 2006 and 2009. They found that the 350z had the highest fatalities rate out of all cars. I suppose it makes sense as the 350z is relatively cheap and pretty powerful, but still, i was always under the impression that they were very strong, well built cars.

  23. The Samsung runs on Android, the same as HTC but both companies put their own overlay on it. Its a matter of taste but most of the visual settings can be changed on wither phone with applications like Launcher Pro or widget locker. I believe that the market is unrestricted, but again, its just a setting that can be changed. That really is the great thing about android compared to iOS, if you dont like something, you can usually change it!
  24. HI Chesterfield Just wanted to offer my opinion on which one to go for. I have had the Samsung Galaxy S for the past 12 months and while it was hard work at times, i loved it. It required quite a bit of tinkering (I am a developer so came naturally) to make it into the phone that i wanted it to be. I was luckily on a 12 month contract, so last week i was offered an upgrade to the Galaxy S 2. I was a bit annoyed at the fact that i was going to have to go through all that work again but i figured i could just sell it if i did not like it. I am happy to say that out of the box, this phone is a massive improvement upon the original! It is as fast as hell and the battery last for a couple of days and i am a very heavy user. I really can't recommend this phone highly enough. Plus, if you go with Vodafone and push a bit, you can get 1gb of internet usage per month without much difficulty.
