  1. May I add anti roll bars and bracings too! As Alex said mate. Rays are spot on especially with a set of 888s or slicks. Brembo calipers are ok but you ll need braided lines and some good brake fluid. Go for adjustable coilovers if you wanna drive your car round town too. You ll need a stronger clutch when your clutch dies....and that will happen fairly quickly on the track. And a limited slip diff for very very good fun It's not a cheap sport in the zed mate....you ll need fairly deep pockets.
  2. Mine is a 5 pot too. Noise is a love/hate thing. I like the sound personally but I look a right t@at making all that noise whilst not really progressing loool. I got the wrong engine though 2.4 petrol, does around 20-22 round town and around 30 at 80mph. Very smooth but nothing much . T5 and D5 are very nippy. Remember also that volvo dealerships are expensive and even if you wanna change the factory cd player that tends to fail very often the new one needs to be calibrated with the ecu and cost over 700 quid to fix it's all very Volvo in a Volvo
  3. Ekona surprisingly the sidewalls on the supersports are typical Michelin...soft. I ve got them on 19inch rims and for every day driving I am happy with 36-37f/35-34r finding about 2 psi difference to feel better. On the track I go with the feel and tyre wear monitoring. I ve got a nismo LSD so rear warms up quickly and usually for track I take them down to 26-28f/26-28r. And I am using nitrogen which does expand a bit less.
  4. I recently bought an 05 plate 2.4l V50 sport estate and got rid of my 51plate A4 3.0l quattro both automatic. Mind newer V50s are a class above old ones. The only engine to have on a Volvo is a D3 or even better D5. Petrol ones have poor fuel economy. Diesels are as fast and very economical. Old tiptronic auto is same as the audi but without Sport mode but with wet which is useless to say the least. It looks fantastic on the outside but far of German standards inside. It handles well for an estate for for some reason it's awfully boring to drive. Saabs have that new TTid engine. Twin turbo diesel and very nippy and economical. The petrol engines will daily visits to the fuel pumps although the aero is very very fast and handles very well. But you ll need a set of new front tyres every 10k miles at the very best! Don't know about their gearboxes but a good friend of mine with 20 years working for rac told me to steer away from swabs. He said their is easy to repair but they always did smth on a Saab. The best thing with saabs is that now they are exceptional value for money. The Octavia is the king in every way especially as an estate and vrs! If you can look past the badge....I didn't and I ll be selling my Volvo soon....and I only had for a month....I ll go for a 2.5 tdi Audi estate or a 530d BMW
  5. I had a 4200gt. Been there done it lost all of my clothes....never again. It's a chick trap with the best sounding exhaust /engine out there, very good looking and the Ferrari derived engine is astonishing. But.... It's only fast on a straight line. Throw it round a corner and you ll find out how heavy and unbalanced it is. Especially the convertible is awful. Back end is snappier than a croc and not at all forgiving and it will be hard to keep it off a ditch. Most important it's stupidly expensive to run. A mileage and an annual service. Typical service quote including spark plugs, oils, filters and a check circa £1400. Annual around £300 if all ok. Clutch lasts around 10-15k no matter what and its a £1400 job and various other things will go wrong. From gearbox mounts to throttle potentiometer. Even tyres have to be good quality and from experience pirelli and bridgestones dont suit it. Michelin were the best but dont expect to pun it on falkens....you ll find out the hard way once a bit damp Look elsewhere and any where but a 4200gt. If anyone can afford to run one I am sure they can afford a newer granturismo. Most miles I did on mine where from Hull to the dealership in Leeds. Last thing it creaks and build quality is obviously of an old Italian car.
  6. It's us tax, it's eu tax but it's never our fault eh? Then Greece is in trouble because people there don't pay their taxes and we so much do! The communist system had lots of flaws and collapsed though revolutions and blood. I am afraid the capitalistic system has faults too...but it isn't causing any revolutions...it is helping right wing parties elect more mps. Just look back in the 1930s.....hope I won't be alive when the world we know changes.
  7. nothing to do with the lead right foot you have ? Timberlands and squats at the gym = bad combination. On a serious note these super sports are mind blowing! One thing they could be a bit better is aquaplaning I think. The ps2s felt a tad better.
  8. V funny. Even 37 at the front true. I ve got the nismo lsd so the rears tend to heat up quickly
  9. I can't believe there are different opinions on the matter Pilot super sports are up there and then there is the rest of them. As much as I hate Michelin and their price policy I can't deny that the super sports are by far the best. They are hard wearing too...much more than the ps2s. They feel even better with nitrogen and personally I prefer 36 psi at the front 34 rear. Personal preference on 19 inch rims. Ps I had pre ordered them before they even started being imported officially. Never went back to 050As and ps2s. On my second set fronts and 3rd rears now
  10. If its anything like the roadster you press lock and keep pressed for 3 secs or smth
  11. Got to gid that haltech out of the garage....wonder how much more than 340 on the fly I could get
  12. I ve still got a haltech I haven't fitted on the zed.....don't even know where it is! Should I?
  13. As above. It's all about statistics and targets. I worked for the nhs and now I am a private dentist for the reason that managers and the company profit was interfering with the quality of my work. I am sorry but the nhs will never change because of the way it is run. The doctors and consultants are most of the time the same nhs/private. It can even be the same person holding 2 positions! What is different is the mentality and sometimes the quality of the materials. I need to inform you all that the private sector however is changing rapidly thanks to what is called CQC or care quality commission. It will soon be regulating everything that has to do with human healthcare from hospitals to care homes. I won't comment on it as there is no democracy in this country and I could be risking my license to practice, I will point out only that the same rules, regulations and standards are applied to both a private and an nhs dental practice lets say. One example...an ex social worker working for the CQC now comes to my private Dental practice for inspection. One of the points she quickly picks up! - well if you allow guide dogs in the practice, where is your dog poo bin? (true example but not my practice). Not record keeping, not materials used, not techniques and success rates nothing like that....dog poo bin, fire extinguisher 10 not 12 inches from the floor, marked dirty tool box regardless what the nurse is using it for (she is an ex social worker, she doesn't know what a dirty flat plastic looks like bless her), she doesn't care how many phone calls I take from home from patients, she doesn't care how quickly I see my emergencies, she doesn't care how many people leave the practice pain free. That's what lowers the standard of care....because a 40k a year manager (for the nhs as said above it will be 3 100k a year) will have to dedicate most of his time sorting irrelevant things out instead of checking whether the nurses hand sanitation or the dentists record keeping is good. Grrrrr I managed to upset myself now
  14. I ll have a look and post a pic on Friday. Zed is at the doctor now.
  15. I got one a couple of years ago at the wales run and fitted fine
  16. You won't say wow what a difference between a 313 and a 276 but the difference is very noticeable full stop. I can't see the point of so many posts.....if you can go for a 313 it's worth the extra dosh. As for the track they will both make you smile...it's how you drive the car and not how fast it is. You can slide nicely a 100bhp car on a track and have fun...and it won't cost you an arm and a leg....and a kidney....and a lung!!!
  17. There is no comparison between the 313 and the earlier cars. Better car full stop. As for performance difference there is a fair but sorry guys. That's not only from me driving both but my 2 wales runs as well For example my 313 stock with me and madmarky in....(both well over 15 stone) was much faster on on gear acceleration than Martins (martinmac) modified and with the nismo ecu. It was not a race, just an as you go acceleration thing from 30-40 to 70. The 313 is much more fun to drive with a revvy engine and better interior and defo worth the extra money.
  18. Resonator or not? Heading the XYZ way me thinks I was recommended by Abbey to take the Race Cat (singular which I guess is high flow) and then some Japspeed De-cats. This allows me to pass at MOT time. So I didn't have a choice about a resonator. To be fair, I have no rasp. Although Japspeed are known for being poor quality, they couldn't really get test pipes wrong I'll be honest and say it's one of the best mods on the car, apart from the MREV 2, love the sound once you hit 3k+ and that's with an oem exhaust. I'm contemplating replacing the back section for a Motordyne TDX 2 it's that good On a side note.... Coming to Wales this year ?? EDIT** (Now with Pic - where you'll see the race cat as they call it, in place of what could have been a resonator or straight pipe) I love this post! Does it fit the hr? I can go for the one with the cat and test pipes and sell my HFCs!
  19. Resonator or not? Heading the XYZ way me thinks
  20. Neil I am worried that the seams won't be smooth and will mess up air flow...how did yours look like mate?
  21. Been using nitrogen since 2007. A Greek mechanic told me about it and I was struggling to find it in hull Now my tyre supplier has got the nitrogen pump and it's free for me to use at my own will Excellent stuff...softer ride too!
  22. Thanks for the input Alex. I was going to change the tube this time round anyway. I ll be in touch soon anyway a few bits and bobs
  23. I am running PF disks front and dixcel (they lasted long!) at the back with I think it's po1 racing or smth?, Alex knows, pads at the front and just upmarket rear pads. I ve also opened the little groves at the front plastic wheel arch covers and made them more like holes. That with the titanium shims and RBF 660 and there is no fade any more!!! Only problems is that the front set up is rather expensive combined with premature wear of the PF rotors on these specific pads. But I can confirm that I did 2 then 2 and then 2 more laps at the ring and on the same avo (from 5.30 till 7.30) and on 20% left disks and pads and I got no fade whatsoever....I would have had another go had I not run out of petrol Plus I tested them at cadwell and donington and knockhil thoroughly
  24. Very nice mate Ps it desperately needs spacers!
  25. As the title says......it's knackered....again It's the 4rd one in 44k miles! First one lasted about 13k. Second one lasted about 12k. Third another 15k ish and this one only 4k! It's a gearbox down job (not down on the floor but still about 14 screws plus the bracings later to open the clutch compartment) and frankly I am getting fed up! First was on oem clutch fluid. Second on motul 5.1 or smth third on RBF 660 and this one on god knows what as I had it replaced at a Honda dealership in Greece!!! This last one did only 6 laps at the ring and not a single track day apart from that plus 2k miles were done driving back from Greece. Is there anything stronger/different.....Anything! I could do to stop this from happening? Last time at 40k when I had the last one fitted the clutch looked like new!! And that's 25k later and many track days. Any input very much appreciated. Ps I ve got the feeling that it's the high temperatures that are killing it, as the fluid is cooking the rubber seal hence on the 660 it lasted the longest.
