  1. i knew you would be the first one along with that Sarnie!!!
  2. As a few of you may know already, i bought an accident damaged Z a few months ago (april i think...) as a project car. I’m sure a few of you can remember the pictures from what it was like at time of purchase!!!) Well, as the title says... its done! Passed the MOT today, first time . Its cost me a little money as all the parts were genuine (a couple of bits were second hand, but nothing too much). Sooo glad i have it finished now, and i can get on with driving it now! It has cost me all in... about £16000, however i have really enjoyed doing the project on the Z and i have made a really great job of it (in my opinion).... and before you lads put up the old “this thread is worthless....â€
  3. Wouldn't suggest luxies myself lads. Live just up the road from them and know a few of the managers there. Not great service, they all say that, plus they've quoted me over double for what ive got my premium for this year, and every year before has been the same, no matter the car! Oh, and took 3 phone calls over a month to get a quote!
  4. The cars cappy an all. I see you lads like this old boy! Offer the asking price to him in monopoly money!
  5. I wouldn't say its just the fact your ST was steep, also for a IG 18, the car is fairly cheep to insure. My premium was lower on my Z than the vti, i did ask why this was, and they said that the Z isn't the type of car people thrash around, and tend to take care of it well (lol.... not sure about the first part :teeth:) Obviously got that touch of class!!!
  6. Sorry to hear about your day Pagnobito, not nery good stuff by the sounds of it - do the parking man over next time It depends on which windscreen company your insurance goes through, some companies (i know RAC do this) will replace it with a genuine screen, but it has to come from japan, and will cost over £1k (i know this is a lot... but it is what i was quoted) other (local) companies will put in a "non-genuine" one, but thats not to say that it will be a cr*p one. Best thing to do is ask your insurance company/windscreen provider.
  7. How come the origin of your graph is at 1300rpm? They didnt dyno your car from cold (or with choke) did they?
  8. Ian, Ive rode a few bikes since i passed my test (well, all my mates have bikes - and its theres i have jumped on). anyhoo, from what i have given a go i will review for you. gsxr 750, very nice bike and very quick, but they are heavy, so for a new rider i wouldnt suggest it, unless its a new one, which they shrunk it a little, and its easier to control - but is costly. R6 - for a 600 its got 120bhp, in a straight line, nearly as quick as the gsxr 750 (well only to about a ton), unbelievable performance, and quite good handeling as well. Ninja (like stews), again quick bike, but not as good overall as the R6, in my opinion (sorry Stew!! - gorgeous bike though!!). Fireblade - great little bike, quite quick, but hasn't really got the "penache" (sp?) of the others. I have a gorgeous grey Daytona 675 (sorry i have a thing for Triumph), cost me just under £6k (57) (you can pick a decent one up for around £4.5 to £5K now). I would say its the best bike i have riden out of the lot, It has really got unbelivable performance and is perfectly balanced, im not saying this because i have one - i have one, because i said this (if you get my drift). Personally for the money i would recommend this bike over all others, and every owner would too. Book time, its 3.36secs to 60, but its obviously down to the rider. Take one for a ride and decide yourself though. One thing i will warn you in advance about.... some of the early models can suffer from brake fade (bad batch of calipers) so if you are looking at getting one... test the brakes... hard!! Either way, defo agree with lomoto, a 600 is right for a first bike, as Stew said you dont need to open it up until you are ready! and if you buy something below a 400 i'm pretty sure you will be upgrading soon(ish) - wasting money.
  9. Well scene as we are all putting the cars up, i thought i would tag along. Rover metro, as the first (the list gets sooo much worse ) Escort 1.6LX As above but Si As above but xr3i Rover 220ti coupe Astra GSI My beloved Motegi Vti and finally.. The Z of dreams They aren't all that bad though! Chose the Z because its a modern iconic car i feel and its so much better than a lot of other cars on the market (well so far) Next!! I think i will do the upgrade to the 370, equilly stylish, but i can see it being a little more common than the current Z (hopefully not though)
  10. In black, but still... http://www.vehicletrader.co.uk/used-car ... port.xhtml
  11. Yeah, delt with them a few times now. Not a bad service, but can be a little expensive. The girls there are nice to talk to though
  12. Totally agree with Sarnie, its a heavy car, which is a down point, but with the thing pushing nearly 1600kgs and the S2000 being over 300kgs lighter there will be a good match on acceleration, plus the Honda v-tec engine is an absolute revolution to automotive engineering, its not surprising how quick it is. Even though the VQ35DE is meant to be in the top 10 engines ever put into production. Speed isn't always about power, the ratio in the s2000 is majorly different to the Z, it may only be half a second slower to 60, but it maxes out at 150mph as the ratios are so close, where the Z is Limited to 155mph and is capable of more. Even take an M3, the Z isn't that much slower than that, and its a 340bhp car. Its all about the driver either way, what the fun with racing someone in a straight line anyway?!!
  13. hi Ebized, ive got a similar set up to Beavis by the sounds of it. Motorised dish that can pretty much pick up every sat channel you will ever need. Look for a Darkbox HD, this is what ive got, about £250 all in it cost me (set it up myself though) has recording capabilities, pause, just like sky plus HD (apart from you cannot rewind tv b4 you press the record button). Got over 6000 channels, with all footy, rugby (and other sports) movies, the lot (apart from Guinness prem as it is sky sports only), Premiership kick-offs (3:00) well the ones i have seen so far. But you cannot get sky channels (apart from those which are freeview). Would defo recomend it, buy the kit, no carges there after. Hope this helps
  14. i agree with you there xStric9x, you cant really compare your car to a standard one wutang200, and saying its ok for a first time sports car is cutting it a little close to the mustard, specially on a z forum. as in the past, the Z car isn't only about speed or handeling old mate, theres that touch of class and style to it. Its easier to pull the birds in a Z than an sx. The other thing is that a stiffer clutch gives you greater power transfer, so you aren't loosing loads of power through the tranny. Maybe if you hit the gym a little more you may not find the clutch so stiff
  15. Welcome to the forum. What else has the car got apart from blue paint then?
  16. Some great looking cars on there Ian, i'm liking the zx in the background and the two tanks sat side by side. Good to see someones enthusiasm to show VW's range in cars with the Audi alloys on the vrs
  17. Good view on the z mate, agree with a few of your opinions there. Turn the tc off and throw it into the corner, that should sort out the understeer problem. Yeah bit of a heavy clutch, but then again, you cant really compare an uprated aftermarket clutch to a standard factory one!
  18. Looks cool for cats to me!
  19. Really sorry to hear about this Mark. See if you can get into his house or something and see if its there! Defo the legs though, does the lad work at the garage? Will keep a look out though!
  20. Yeah no worries Rich, let me know what you are looking for, if you decide you want to go down this route, and i will have a look around for you. Yeah have all the schematics for the z, will send to you, again, if you decide to follow the damaged route.
  21. You are always taking the risk when buying a damaged car, there are alot out there with severe damage. I would try to get one with the damage concentrated in one area. Mine was front offside damage, so i only had to rebuild the front end of the car, the last thing you want to do is buy a car where you have to start replacing quarter pannels, doors and roofs, well depending on the capital available and time span. I'm perfectly fine with having a damaged car, as i'm very confident about my rebuilding skills, and i know i have done a very good job on it. If you are compitant, then you should be ok. Take someone along with you if you view one, and take an acdcurate tape as well, do all the measurements to check for pillar and chassis damage, as jigging can destroy your budget. Another sugestion is to start sourcing parts before you buy the car, this was my only mistake, as i have had to wait ages for some parts to pop up. and its costly, as you may have to visit the stealer a few times!! I got an early 2004 UK GT in blade with 35k on the clock, in perfect cond (apart from the damaged parts lol) for just under £9k (bartered it down £750 though), mind you it was unrecorded (uninsured loss) so i wont lose any money at resale. so thats a £5k saving. All in (its nearly done now) it has cost me around £4k to fix, but i have done 100% of the work myself (apart from spraying). What hit me was the £1.2k i payed for parts from a stealer, as i couldn't source them anywhere else (this was before i joined here, so some lads will be able to help, i'm sure) this was with a 30% discount as well (connections hay!!). Got my car from a friend, he owns a salvage company and specialises in Z's. I'll give him a tinkle and see what he has got (if he has at the moment though). Be able to get you a good deal as well
