  1. Its because anyone wanting to clone a car is highly unlikely to want to clone one that exists in their local area, where its easier for the boys in blue to check out the real owner and just pop round for a look see. They would want to clone one that is a good distance away. Which means unless they drive to a place a long distance away and make a note of a plate that they would require, they would simply get one from the net. Also, car forums are a great source of info for this, as not only can they get a number plate, reading peoples posts may even reveal name, and location, which using other sites on the net can give car cloners a lot more info than just a number plate. They could with a bit of research not only gain your car reg, but name, date of birth, address, date you bought the car, and a fair few other trinkets of info that could be useful to put together a credible story and answer many questions that the boys in blue could pose if the car were ever stopped for any reason. Noting a plate in the street does not give any criminals access to all the other info that a car forum could do...
  2. Sounds like a scammer to me. Its bank holiday Sunday/Monday and to put that ammount on a credit card many banks will require a telephone call to confirm security details - not going to happen on a Sunday in my opinion. Beware of him returning with some **** and bull story about the dealer car falling through.
  3. It amazes me that they use Autotrader to try and pull off these scams, as it costs a lot more to advertise on Autotrader than Ebay... I spotted one on Ebay the other day for a £14k Aston V8. Found the same car being advertised legit on Autotrader for 75k. Texted the guy on Autotrader to let them know that their car was being used as bait for a scam on ebay. Also advised ebay of the scam.
  4. Its always going to be hard for new events to become established, without people like yourself persevereing many of todays established and well attended events may not even exist. As the years go on, hopefully the attendance will grow and the local businesses will find a way to capitalise on the event and therefore support it rather than hinder it. All the best for the future, and Im sure next year you can expect more from 350z-uk.com to attend, just give us plenty of notice and we can get the event put in the calendar on the site
  5. Will do PS - if you take yours to Coney Green, I advise doing the same and sticking it side on somewhere; the last Z I had (blue roadster) took a nasty ding to the door when I parked it in a standard position.
  6. If you are going to respray a Z, then I would go for a one off colour. House of Kolor certainly do some interesting designs. I think flip paints are very max power to be honest, and dont have that "quality" that a Z is deserving of. A very deep rich red (like the candy apple red) or deep pearl purple would be great I think.
  7. Great to see you back up and running John, you must be releived.
  8. Sorry to say, I think it was certainly myself that has just dented your wallet then. Mine isnt at Coney Green that often as the missus has it as her car for work. I do take it every now and then though, usually park it sideways under the windmill when I do. It will be there again next Thursday as the missus is taking my car so her and a couple of friends can go shopping for the day. Im more than willing to pop out any evening after work and have a chat if you like, any excuse to drive it
  9. Hi Paul, Whereabouts are your business premises? I have a feeling I may know who that yellow one parked outside them might have been
  10. I would think that would be ok with everyone, but lets just wait and see what the rest of the guys think. (its not a single persons decision). The only concern I would have is that it has the pottential to generate an awful lot more of topic banter, not that the off topic banter chat is not fun, it clearly is - but we dont want to be buried in the stuff. I suppose its free publicity!
  11. Front end reminds me very much of a Citroen DS.
  12. Hi, welcome aboard. One of our largest meets is held in North Wales. 30 Z's last time! With the number of new owners onboard in the last few months, the next Wales run will probably break even that record. Here we are at Bala:
  13. Im guessing that would be even higher than the £55k in the UK. Possibly getting toward £70k or more Even the most hardened Nissan fan would be pushed to justify that much on the brand wouldnt they? Although Ill bet it goes like, and handles like stink!
  14. Shame on the pricing. Not that its not value for money, clearly if it performs as well as the rumours, then its certainly great value, but rumours of £35k base spec and upward to £55k for the top V-spec model seem to have dissapeared. Im guessing the states wont be selling it for $110k, so us Brits ar going to get the smelly end of the stick as always. Had the car been priced fairly or along the lines that were suggested, then Tracy may have twisted my arm by now to put a deposit down, but a £55k price tag combined with my experience of paint issues on the Z and not being totally convinced of Nissans customer service, I'll not be parting with that ammount of cash for a new Nissan. Another 10k at the time the GTR comes out and I think you'll be very close to second hand Aston Martin V8 territory.
  15. Offer still open to anyone who requires a front or rear (or some unlucky git who needs both). Tyres almost free to a good home, and the wheels are open to offers.
  16. Thats correct - Ive got 18 inch tyres. As Mike said though, Ive got the OEM wheels if you want them, open to offers for the wheels - but then you are back to square one requiring two more tyres, as two of the rims are without rubber.
  17. True - I think its a longshot that they would void it for not being able to pass an emissions test, but if there is any uncertainty, or you have the slightest bit of worry, then just make a few calls and get it double checked for your own piece of mind if nothing else. You dont want to be driving round with a niggling thought in the back of your mind. Im a born worrier, so it would drive me bonkers. A quick call may set your mind at ease one way or the other.
  18. As I say, insurance companies look for the obvious resons not to pay out on norma claims, I can only imagine in the event of a total loss claim for an 85k car, they may be a bit more interested and MAY try to use that as an excuse. As others say, its unlikely - but not impossible. I would suggest if you are in the slightest bit worried, you should call your insurer and check.
  19. Ive heard of people being pulled because of noise emissions though, Im guessing a decatted car could fall foul of that?
  20. I would consult your insurer Liam, indeed, take it for an emissions test, if it passes, then you should be in the clear. If it doesnt then check with the insurer if an emissions failure would invalidate your insurance. Insurance companies dont like paying out, and if they can try to find excuses not to pay out for a normal car, then you can bet they would look for any excuse under the sun to avoid paying out on a total loss of say an 85k car. Better to be safe than sorry I would think.
  21. Does the self levelling ECU make decatting just a noisy modification?
  22. That is correct. I had a full set of standard wheels and tyres, but one front tyre got a puncture and cant find a place that will repair it - plus, wouldnt feel quite right selling anyone a tyre for a 155mph car that had been repaired, so I think thats one for the tip. I used one of the rears on the GT4 to replace the almost worn out one, leaving me with a full set of wheels but only two with tyres - one front and one rear. If you can make it to Chesterfield at any point then you are welcome to the tyre as I say. Let me know and Ill get it taken off the rim for you. Or if you want I could always bring it to a meet?
  23. I had odd tyre tread depths on mine when I bought it - previous owner must have had a puncture and had just one tyre replaced leaving the other one near the legal limit. When accelerating over uneven ground it made the car feel very skittish over the road and round tight bends at any sort of speed it certainly felt a little less stable than normal. Replacing the other tyre so I then had two of the same wear level on the rear made a world of difference. Having different tyre brands may also lead to the same as you will have different grip levels etc as others have said. Its annoying but both may bave to be replaced. If you can collect, I have one rear and one front RE040 that are taking up room in the garage, only done about 4k before being taken off the car. You pay the cost for the local tyre shop to take it off the rim, buy us a pint at a meet and you can have the tyre.
