350Z database connection problems?
Chesterfield replied to stanski's topic in Forum IT Issues & Bug Reporting
Its also about the time they do the out of hours work (server hosted East Coast of US). -
Ahh - handy to know that Chris. Would you like a bit of a busmans holiday offering advice *cough* doing *cough* some scripting for this site?
-
knowing how much scripting work has gone into this site, and the inevitable little problems that get thrown up, I can understand how easy it is to end up with errors in php. The standard software out there, whatever version never has all the features an individual site would like, just the basic one fits all solution, and a certain level of modification will be needed. The modifications are rarely all written by one company/person, so never seem to quite get along with one another so you have to modify the modifications. Then when you install another modification, you have to revisit your original modifocation and modify it again... When you get to a dozen or so modifications, it can become quite a headache beleive me. Feel sorry for the chap doing the coding, as its probably been a bit of a ball ache to fix.

Tidied flirts sale post a bit..

Not much over 23 myself - honest. I just had a heavy paper round.

No developments as yet rob, and mediawiki wont allow special characters i.e _/\* etc. Im stuck for a solution at the moment as the way its linked to the username database for the forum means that you cant enable registrations as it will no longer link to the forum usernames. The only temporary solution would be to register another forum username (say RobQuads) without the _, then log into the wikipedia (which it will use a seperate cookie for) then you will have Rob_Quads on the forum, and RobQuads on the wiki. This error has prompted us to look at a site wide update which will encompass a slicker interaction between the various secions of the site (forum, gallery, wiki etc). Its just time and availability of people with the necessary IT knowledge that are the constraints at the moment. Sorry for the heath robinson workaround for now.

Yup I think we are Im sure we can make a convoy

Please can we use this thread to gather details of those who wish to attend this Years JAE. It is a three day event 29-31 August and is located on Mersea Island. One of the largest, if not the largest, Japanses Auto shows in the UK. The details of the venue etc can be found here: http://www.japcarclub.com/jae/forums/in ... wtopic=732 Please add your name to the list below if you wish to attend (please put the days you wish to attend in brackets next to your name (this will help us advise John on what size plot is needed). Below are communications from the organiser:

I think there are also a lot of importers awaiting this pricing confirmation in Geneva too. There seems to be a distinct lack of information on how to get ones hands on a GTR via the import route at present. There still appears to be some questions that need answering on the finer details of how to get a GTR on the UK roads now rather than waiting god knows how long (and exactly what is the reason behind this wait again??) Once the pricing and details of what is and isnt included in the UK cars regarding servicing, limiting, warranty (transferable?) etc... then conclusions can be drawn as to whether import or UK purchase is the way forward. Some may decide that the extra cost (if there is any?) is worth it for what is ofered with the UK cars (if anything?) and others may decide that the import delivery time and lack of extras (such as warranty) is their bag. It will certainly provoke some interesting discussions whatever is announced Im sure...
-
Why not, Im not currently running a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini and UK pricing dependent Im considering it as an upgrade. It may be in the same league as those cars performance wise, and possibly running cost wise, but the concern for many is, will the extra £10,15, 20k over import prices be justified in the dealer support needed/offered?
-
Lets not forget the sub £40k price in Japan is the price on the road from the dealers. When comparing it to the price the UK dealers will be selling at, we shouldnt use the retail price in Japan as the starting point, as I doubt very much if the dealers in the UK will be importing the cars to their show rooms the same was as us mere mortals would have to. Making the profit per car in the UK (if sold at the £60k point) a complete joke compared to those in the US and Japan. IMHO of course.
-
In my honest opinion, although I love the 350, only severely restricted numbers will prevent a £60k car with a Nissan badge losing money very rapidly. The car is still a bargain for that sort of performance, even at £60k. Its certainly in the same league performance wise as the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche turbo. The problem is the GTR bears the same manufacturer badge as the Micra, Primera and Sunny. Chuck a Porsche key on the table in the pub and people who know nothing about cars raise an eyebrow (and the key could belong to a rusting old 922). Do the same with a Nissan - or even something that says GTR, and its simply isnt the same. The car can whoop a 911 Turbo, Gallardo or F430 all it wants, and those who can appreciate performance will be laughing all the way to the bank with a car with that performance for "only" £60k, but for the rest of the world, although all us here know different, the Nissan badge just isnt in the same league. Sell the same car to us UK owners for £40k that they sell in Japan for £30k and you may have a deal - pricing it at double the Japan price just for us lucky UK folk, and its taking the Mick as far as Im concerned.

Hi and Always nice to see another new owner sign up, hope you find the club fun and informative
-
Ahh - looks like you have inadvertantly found the first bug. The software running the wikipedia does not allow special characters (such as the underscore) in usernames - whereas the software running the forum does. There may be a fix for this for the wikipedia software, or... the underscore can be removed from your login name - it may work with a space instead - Ill test and report back before doing any name changes...

not just my handywork - its something the team have worked on for a while Hope its useful for everyone.

Hi - sorry for the confusion, once the days events have been finalised a detailed description of the day will be added to the first post. The basic day goes like this: Meet at departure location morning of Sunday (time usually about 9:30 to 10 am) Scenic route to Bala in north Wales is taken, arriving in time for a chat t other members and great photo opportunities at the lakeside (all cars in one large row alongside the lake). Short stroll through the small town of Bala to a nice pub/restaurant for lunch (usually carvery) and the passengers can enjoy a few drinks if they wish. Set off some time after lunch for another scenic drive through popular villages and towns in North Wales, various stops made throughout the day for phot opportunities again (many people are using photos from this day as their signature pictures) Day ends back at the same start point for those that want a final chat perhaps 5-6pm. Some also decide to drive up on the Saturday, spend the day taking in the shopping opportunities etc in Chester and meet for a meal on the Saturday night for a meal, making a weekend of it with the other halves.. It is certainly one of the best (if not the best) "meets" Ive attended with any car club. Once we have organised the final set up, route, times etc a detailed post will replace the first one on this thread Hope that helps

First large addition to the site now made..... see announcements section. Second addition may take a little time today, off to get my camera...
-
You may have already noticed the additional link to the menu at the top of the page.... This is the latest addition to 350z-uk.com, your very own 350Z wikipedia. With the kind permission of 350z-tech in the USA we have been able to create a base for what is now the only dedicated 350Z wikipedia for UK owners. Much of the material already in this wikipedia has been provided by members across the pond, and where possible, adapted for the UK. This however now belongs to you, the UK owners of the 350z, and is for you to use, change, enhance and contribute to as you wish, in order to help fellow 350z owners in the UK. Your forum username and password will gain you write access to the wikipedia, but if you just want to browse there is no need to log in. If you want to publish a guide or "how to" article, they can be added to the wikipedia, if you want to research bodykits, brakes, exhausts, you will find it on there. Though if you dont - you can certainly add it in order to help others in the future.
-
Yup - the whole main portal page is in need of a reorganisation, and the latest additions coming to the site will certainly require alterations to various menus etc...

Hopefully so - Im certain that science will be able to either grow replacements from our own dna or replace with artificial organs in time.
-
Im not particularly bothered if my dna is on a database. If the database helps catch criminals then fine, but also, could it be used for other positive actions, such as helping find suitable matches for kidney donors, no need to wait to see if you are compatble with someone you want to help out - you just volunteer and they can match you up with a suitable candidate to receive your organs instantly. If they find a cure for a certain disease that can be identified through dna, they can ensure everyone who may be affected gets the vacination/cure before costing the nhs more money in treatment at some point in the future. There are a lot of positives that the database could be used for, but the security of such a database would be a serious concern.
