  1. Have made a quick change which should hopefully fix most of the links now.
  2. Sorry to hear the news, my condolences to you. Also, condolences to those others that have posted here with the same experience lately.
  3. One issue previously raised was the visibility of the PM notification on the header if you did not see or do not have pop ups. When you get a new PM the notification/link at the top of the page should now turn red. (if peopl dont like red, we can come up with some other colour )
  4. From the main list of forums, any subforums that have unread posts should now display in Bold - you may need to force a refresh (press "CTRL & F5" when on the main forum index). Will look at getting the topic section into that large gap on the unread serch results.
  5. Nah you dont - come along anyway, you may get some ideas that will sway your thoughts on how the car is finished. I first attended with bog standard engine bay, bog standard car, and got some great ideas (well, leeched them from others is probably more accurate). Its not a pre-requisite that cars have to be finished/modified to attend You will enjoy it!
  6. Rob will provide details..... This was good last year, and am looking forward to it again this year!
  7. Hi, There are a couple of threads discussing the new look which will answer the questions, we are working on improvements.... viewtopic.php?f=7&t=20966 viewtopic.php?f=9&t=21092
  8. ahh yes - I think I may have upped the limit to 300. So for those that are experiencing problems, check the number of messages in the inbox. If its larger than 300 it may explain new ones not being delivered.
  9. Hi, Ill try to address some of the issues raused hope this helps: It is a free template - but so was the one used on the previous forum, they were/are both heavily modified in order to fit our specific needs. I.e. the header menu, quick reply function, portl, additional bb code, member map, etc. These are all changes from the default setup of this particular style. It is possible to allow users to select different styles, however, in order to do so these additional templates will also need modification to work for our forum. A standard default template from the web will have no header menu, no logos, no quick reply, no portal etc. If people really dont want to use this template even if we can address the few niggles, then we can look at implementing a template which looks almost the same as the previous version, but it will take time to alter the template to work with our forum. This info can be seen by using the various lnks at the top - though we may be able to alter the portal to display this. The unread/new posts links work like this: View active topics: This allows you to see all topics that have any activity in the last X days, X being selectable at the bottom. View New Posts: This shows all threads with posts made since your last logon. View Unread posts: This shows all topics with posts that you have not read - regardless of logon. View your posts: View threads that you have posted in. As for internet explorer - Microsoft is really starting to P**s forum creators off. Each release of Internet Explorer seems to change the way it works with javascript and html, trying to be super intelligent and thinks it knoew better than the writer when displaying pages. We have tried to get this to work as best we can with IE, but unfortunately with evry release of the software, its like trying to hit a moving target. Most people are not inclined to re-write their forum templates every time Microsoft decide that html should be interpreted differently, myself included. We can try and fix little niggles. One example is the quick reply box. This is open by default in Internet Explorer, but not in othe browsers. Also, Internet Explorer by default switches its focus to the quick reply box, meaning after the page has loaded, you jump straight to the quick reply box - we have had to put specific code in place to stop IE doing this. We can try to put other slight fixes in place to make the forumwork with newer releases, but in all honesty - why should we have to? I made this post previously on the additions for a user, hope this helps: additions from a users perspective are: ability to report posts to a moderator - this can be seen by all mods, so no need to pm individuals ability to use extra Bcode buttons - such as the youtube one already added A beaten to posting review - if someone replied before you, then you have the opportunity to change your post additions to the way in which unread posts can be displayed - active topics, unread posts, new posts. "Print view" for topics, making for more efficient/economical printing of a thread Additional functions in the user control panel, custom folders for PM's, multiple recipients for PM's etc. Ability to save messages/posts as drafts for finishing later There are also quite a few additions for moderating, which although nothing special from a users perspective, should make it easier for us to keep the place neat and tidy. The view unread posts button is in more or less the same place as it was on the old forum. The date and time has moved from left to right, and the "view new/unread/your posts" are listed horizontaly rather than vertcially, which compresses the header, saving space. On smaller resolution screens, I may agree that the size of these links is rather small - perhaps increasing the size would resolve the visibility issue of these links? With regard to the space on the topic display, yes that is an issue and we would hope to use that area to display the section that the post is made in, rather than have it displayed in small text underneath the post title. As for the other "spacing" issues, Ill attach a few comparative pictures of th old and new, using the same threads - if people can use these images to hilight what they feel is missing/unnecessary, please do so - it may help: Portal Old and New Index Old and New Section with Subforums Old and New Topic Old and New Hope we can get some answers to resolve a few of the concerns
  10. Yup - the old gallery didnt work too well, and could be insecure. A replacement is due.
  11. Nixy - are you using internt explorer or firefox? My fathers laptop was suffrig he very sam issue as yourself when viewing ebay - he could litterally go for a cup of team when navigating pages. I tried everything to try and fix it but with no luck, it seemed to be some issue with his pc and one of the IE "fixes" that was to do with redrawing the page and javascript etc. The solution in the end was to use firefox, as I could find no explanation as to why just that one site (ebay) was affected and so drastically.
  12. Yep - certainly on the to do list, but this particular modification has the pottential of slowing the site down somewhat. If you can imagine, when you click unread posts, the server as to search for all topics that have posts made since your last logon, and display those topics - not a huge calculation, but enough. Now imagine that along with that search, it also has to pull the first x lines of each of these posts, the ammount of data required grows at an alarmng rate. We can look at this, and it is on the list - but it may not be put in place - the busier this forum gets, the more concious we have to be about the complexity of any forum modifications.
  13. It may be that the recipients have more than 150 messages in their inbox. If they do, then no new PM's are delivered until there is room, they should be informed of this upon notification that they have a PM.
  14. Apologies guys - just got in to find this, the previous threadwas moved to a temporary area while those concerned, including the trader, could discuss, and ensure that all was above board before having a controversial topic open to all etc. No coverup intended or implied. I didnt actually see the content of the previous post, have just learned that the temporary move did not go well, and it appears to have gone missing. This appears to be a genuine mistake by one of the team who seems to have made an error in the moving of the topic. Ive tried to get it back, but unfortunately no luck as of yet, it appears not to be in the database. Just to assure people, we havent exorcised any unnecessary censorship of members commets to date, and we dont intend to start now.
  15. Looks quite nice that. I usually go for watches with blue faces, and had I not recently bought a "decent" watch for myself, I would be interested. As it is I have about 4 with blue faces now and I think I should stop before it becomes an obsession. Can we try and keep the thread to northernmunkeh's original post though folks ta.
  16. Ahh so thats why I couldnt order a red car with the red leather trim and smoked wheels. They are going to offer that combo with softer suspension and charge £40k premium for it - brilliant. Where do I sign So far with the massive price, VDC, track inspections etc etc and now daft things like this for an extra £40k, the smart drivers money will be on a porsche GT3 I think.
  17. A good dose of common sense is needed when donning a police uniform, but it seems that they would gladly dish one out to hitler if he were alive today. Handing out penalty points for a simple mistake like that is way OTT, and yet another fine example of how "targets" have turned the police force from a respectable and praised organisation into jobsworths that are hated by most motorists. Doubt its the coppers fault, their force was probably in danger of missing its targets, so the ability to use their discretion is removed in order to meet some figures set by a pen pusher whom dictates that so many crimes must be detected and resolved.
  18. Guys and Girls, In order to try and ensure the new forum looks the best it can, it will be useful if we can take into account the resolution people will be viewing at - specifically the width of your screen. Moblie devices aside, at what width do you view the forum at. (you should be able to check more than one option for work and home) PS - hope this poll works correctly.
  19. Have set a maximum image size in posts of 800 x 600 to prevent the forum being stretched (and buttons dissappearing over to the right) on standard screen resolutions of 1024x768. Larger resolutions can of course take larger pics without this issue, so will look at auto resizing based on percentages in order to try and make images the optimum size for whatever resolution the reader is using. Not a two minute change, but will see if it can be added. Will also look at reducing the gap between the last line of a post and the signature, as this appears to be causing some of the unnecessary spacing out. This may also apply to blank lines after and within quotes.
  20. I dont know which was worse - seeing a team of people unable to come up with a simple production ine method of cleaning cars quickly and WELL, or watching some tool give the go ahead to four women with a hose, bucket and sponge to clean Porches, Lambos and Ferraris!
  21. Please tell me that I havent just seen some dizzy bint washing a Ferrari F430 spider with a single bucket and a f**king yellow bath sponge!!
  22. Shouldnt be any errors with the smilies - if their names are apearing and not the pictures, then it looks like a possible timeout error reading the images, this could be down to the server or local issues. With regard to the speed, it should be the same, if not a little faster. The issue is that perhaps not all the images for each persons signature, or smilies, or template files have been cached. If this is the case, it shouldnt stay slow for too long. This board also caches searches and various pages, so that they can be dished out straight from a html file rather than having to perform a database lookup for regularly opened items. (or at least thats my understanding of it) Will look at the image resize - it may not be applied to images already posted, but for new ones we should have the ability to resize on the fly so as not to stretch the forum. Will test shortly.
