  1. Today
  2. I’d assume the E88 is probably quite similar to the F21 that was a banging chassis.
  3. Damn, that was a ramble and a half. Soz guys.
  4. It’s a fair point, sadly I did not have the ability at the time to have a REALLY OVER ENTHUSIASTIC streamer to film my experiences as unequivocal proof. My bad. In all seriousness, I too used to be a bhp chaser. Once I realised that the actual experience of driving was more important than just going quicker in a straight line, my opinion drastically changed and I felt more willing to experiment and try other things. That revolutionised how I go about owning and modifying my cars to my preference, and not to impress others. That’s not a dig at anyone, each to their own and I mean that. That’s where really good YouTubers earn their money: describing feel rather than showing numbers is an art. My current car is a relatively lowly E88 125i auto, but it makes a lovely noise with the roof down with enough poke for every day overtaking. All the controls are in the right place, the seating position is excellent, and I can tick the straight-six box off my ownership list. If I had more money (ie less kids!) I’d certainly look to put some lighter wheels on, some better brakes and prob change the head unit as well: other than that, it’s perfect.
  5. Yes, that's all well and good using actual real world experience and all, but have you got a YouTube video to prove any of it?!

  7. I Love the look of my 19” show wheels which suit the mods I’ve done now she is purely a road car. Having said that the 18” Rays fitted to my car new always made the car feel more nimble on the road. Once fitted with competition tyres for hill climbing and sprinting the difference was even more noticeable.
  8. I have noticed an improvement in acceleration/gearing going from a 40 profile to a 35 profile rear tyre this year. essentially like dropping a cog on a pushbike so its easier for the drivetrain to turn, thats prob why he says going from a 19-18 inch wheel reaps more benefit than a 10 to 9kg wheel swap. you can improve the gearing by either a final drive swap, smaller wheels or lower profile tyres, it all does the same thing in essense. I am no expert but I think thats what he is getting at without going into the detail of confusing the viewer. Its also probably why lots of sprint/hillclimb cars (that i have seen) fit the smallest but widest wheels they can get away with to clear the brakes/arches. No doubt a lighter wheel is better and we should always opt for that if competing (and strength taken in to consideration) but your not going to be adding 50kg of multiplied weight to the car and adding 5 seconds to your laptime by going a kilo per wheel heavier like the internet would have you believe.
  9. Anyone who has ever driven a 350 with the touring wheels and then swapped to Rays will tell you it’s a night and day difference. Even a few kilos shaved there makes the whole car feel so much more nimble. It’s why I stayed with 18” on the 645 rather than move to 19”s. Once you’ve tried it you realise what a revelation lighter wheels can be: far more noticeable than an extra 20bhp here or there.
  10. Oh nice one fella. Towards the end he referenced moving to an 18' from a 19' for example would yield more performance than same size lighter wheels. Very interesting I thought.
  11. Absolutely brilliant day out with the Z family. Thank you everyone for coming. Grey and miserable initially, however soon brightened up. Lovely to see new owners attend their very first get together, I remember everyone's first MidlandZ Club Meet These breakfast gigs have a habit of rolling over into lunch and dinner. Until the next time
  12. Last week
  13. Yeah, it basically confirms what my thoughts were. The wheel weight makes a small difference but nowhere near the 4 times or 5 times unsprung weight multiplier banded about. he doesn't and no one seems to factor in that a lightweight wheel is 9kg say against a 12kg cast wheel but you also have 9kg of brake disc and 10kg of tyre plus rest of calipers and hubs so as a % overall weight reduction its negligible. basically lighter is better but not worth getting hung up about a few pounds/kilos as any non professional driver will not notice or care, buy the wheels you like.
  14. At the start of the year I fitted new discs and pads ready for the season. I went for Black Diamond (i think) slotted discs and PBS Comp Pads. I noticed after a few events hairline fractures/cracks in the discs but just ignored them as they didn't seem to get any worse. Well during this weekend at Blyton, they had developed from just a hairline crack to more like the grand canyon. You can see all the hairline ones i mentioned but I think you will agree it might not be advisable to be slamming on the anchors from 110mph to 30mph on track with these. The other side - pic below - crack wend all way through the disc! So with a full weekend at Curborough this weekend coming I thought i better not risk them, Tarmac Sportz to the rescue who only had Pagid "standard" discs in stock but with only today to fit them I couldn't wait to order anything so a trip to Derby in the morning and then got them fitted this afternoon. Thanks Chris. And while I was at Tarmac HQ, I picked up my diff brace I had ordered and fitted that as well, with the abuse I give the car, its a bit of extra reassurance the diff wont part ways with the subframe anytime soon. Video of Blyton to follow below, safe to say, I need a gearbox rebuild asap
  15. Hi there, also noticing deterioration of my windscreen seal. It has come loose near the top end of the seal. Did you find something?
  16. There's no stutter on power, it's smooth as butter all the way to the red line. It's not caused by the car.
  17. Looking good you guys. See you folks tomorrow 🤗
  18. Your zed is looking in great shape now buddy, credit to you👍I had the same rear bumper on my previous zed
  19. Certainly a bit odd. Does the same thing on both runs by the look of it. I wonder if it’s transmission related. The AFR doesn’t do anything wonky. I wouldn’t have thought the car was climbing the rollers, it’s not like it’s big power turbo car that suddenly comes on power.
  20. Thanks! Allot of effort went into it. So glad it worked out just right.
  21. The clear lights, wheels and door handles really pop off the pristine looking paint. That's a fine looking z.
  22. Currently loving the exterior cosmetics of the red zed. The refurbed alloys. The chargespeed rear and the clear lenses/indicators plus the jdm clear tails all bring the rear together. So happy with the way it turned out.
  23. Sorry, the coilovers have gone. I've a set of Ark lowering springs advertised if they're of any use?
