Keeping it planted - Loose Zed

So,

This is my second Zed now.

The first one I had must have been modified but there was no paperwork to suggest it so I assumed that awesome exhaust note was standard...

Now I have the second one hes much more timid, However the DE felt alot more planted even with the crap tires.

 

Not going to lie this one intimidates me a little and isn't inspiring much confidence, I obviously had my confidence knocked quite a bit when I had my accident in the first one, so much like my Leon Cupra R (When its brakes failed) I want to go a little overboard to make sure shes up to snuff.

 

I'm supposed to be saving for a house... But I want to make sure shes in bloody good working order

 

Now obviously you have sway bars, Springs/Shocks/Suspension work and sticky tires.

 

Thankfully I have MPSS all round this time but two things stand out

 

The car feels like it tramlines HARD, this could be the new tires but it still catches me when I'm lazy driving but when I try a little spirited driving it feels loose.

I checked tyre pressures all round and all are at about 36PSI when warm so I think thats fine?

 

I'm wondering about bushes and general wear and tear items before I get started on the big stuff.

The car is due to go into nissan for a warrenty issue with the Hazard lights think It would be worth getting them to have a look?

 

Another issue I'm having is if I go full lock turning into a junction and I move away on full lock it doesn't 'Feel right' almost a little slippy? Very loose? And it doesn't seem to centre the wheel as quickly as I'd expect but I could be finding issues that don't exist here!

 

If anyone can shed any light or previous similar issues please let me know

Its still in warranty at the moment but I think I trust you guys more than main dealers.

Mine felt a bit like yours when I first got it. Compression rod bushes and decent tyres fixed it for me.

 

I doubt its your tyres, you can check the compression rod bushes by jacking up the car and removing the front brace. I could see mine where ripped in places. As long as the ball joints on the end are fine you can just change the bushes for poly. I have the superpro ones on mine.

 

EDIT:

 

+1 on the alignment check as well, but take a look at the compression rod bushes first.

Alignment, alignment, alignment. First stop, always, on any car. Should be done a minimum of once a year, preferably twice.

 

Not having any details on your old car or your new one, it's difficult to pass judgement call on whether it could also be the bushes. Or very possibly worn dampers.

If I can drop in on this thread.

 

Where is being suggested for a alignment ?

I do trust my local ATS for tyres, taking care etc and know most of these places offer alignment checks.

 

Are they generally thought to be good enough or is it specialist people again and if so who ?

It all depends on the conversation between the user and the operator.

 

Any idiot can use a machine to get a car between the green lines it tells you to, but OEM specs are incredibly safe and dull. You're better off going to someone who understands how the different settings can affect a car for the better, and just what the driver wants the car to handle like.

OK Interesting, I think I'll have the alignment checked into first.

Does anyone know any reputable independants in the South Wales/Bristol/That side of england area.

Don't mind travelling a bit to get it right,

 

New car is a 2007 350Z HR with 43K on the clock if that helps

Old one was a 2006 DE Revup with 60K on the clock (this felt solid)

Number of people on Pistonheads recommend Avia in Bridgend for their motors

I work in Bridgend so I'll get it checked out very soon and let you know!

I feel mine has got worse since I bought it, I have had some bushes changed in the last year but I really need to jack it up and start wiggling the other bushes, confidence as you say gets low :( I also have MPSS as well. (don't think it's related)
