So I'm thinking of fitting HFC next. I quite fancy giving this a go my self.

Is it a one man job? Any special tools I will require? I don't have a long enough extension at the moment but will get one for the job.

Seen this video which makes it look incredibly easy.

On a scale of 1-10 what would you rate the difficulty level at?

Not done it, but from I've heard of people installing, fairly straight forward, however the main issue is bolts on the old cats seizing on etc....that's where most of your time will be spent.

Spray some Plus Gas on the bolts (so get underneath/over it with some goggles on B)) - and a couple of extension bars will be required. (if you search, esp US forums - you may need 2 or 3 typical extension bars).

Just done it on my 04, access to the manifold/cat flange is tight but ok, and all six bolts/studs undid with a small breaker bar and long extension.

Had more issues with the Cat/Y Pipe flange, access is great but still had to cut the bolts off with a dremel.

As mentioned Plus Gas is well worth it.

DE or HR? How much would you be looking for them?

Cheers,

Really?

I've got my decats and new exhaust arriving this week an heard nothing but bad things about undoing the nuts and bolts so putting into garage

Seriously really easy. its basically 5 bolts each side. spray them up and leave them for a good 5-10 mins, and they should be fine coming off, mine were and its done 130k and they were stock!

Bodyboarder81, why did you remove the berks HFCs after such a short time? Any issues with MOT or too noisy?

Had a supercharger bolted on and these wouldn't be up to the task ......

Ran them for 1k , past an mot with them .

How noisy they are is all down to what exhaust they are bolted too .

Up for sale when I remember to put them up!!

20 minutes per side? Jesus, it takes me that long to get all the tools out. Budget a few hours start to finish if this is your first time and your doing it on your own. You'll need about 2.5 - 3ft of extensions. 1/2" ones too, anything smaller and you'll probably snap it. Running order for the job is;

Dismantle fair chunk of engine bay so you can access a couple of the nuts

jack up

penetrating fluid

undo all (10?) bolts - most from underneath, a couple from the top

remove old cats

fit new hfcs

tighten bolts

re-assemble engine bay

drop down to floor

quick test - anything blowing?

put tools away

drive - enjoy the sound :)

not bad, but free to do yourself.

and 10 bolts? 2 on the Y pipe, 3 on the mani end. no parts needed moving in the bay could easily see down the left of the block to get the extensions down there, only needed it for that one on the dirvers side, the passenger side you can do them all from underneath as theres more room to get the rachet up there.
