Nightmare at West Way Mill Hill

Now I’ve thus far had a very stressful experience with the main dealer network and getting paperwork sorted at WW Manchester was a five week post-puchase nightmare. I know these kind of businesses can only support low salaries and this is typically reflected in the capabilities of the staff working there but sometime I wonder where they find these people…

So then, I book the 370ZN in for a P1 service two weeks ago, get told that it’ll take 90 minutes. Fine. Great. I turned up 10:40am - ten minutes late due to roadworks. My bad. I then get told that the service is going to take five and a half hours because they didn’t realise is was a 370 coming in and it requires “special servicingâ€. Yep.

Mill Hill is on a dual carriageway with nothing around – there’s a TGI Friday up the road if you want to risk food poisoning. So I was there from 10:40am until 4:40pm. What a way to spend a lovely spring day.

Not only that, but as a special leaving gift their “valeters†added a load of scratches to my rear nearside quarter panel along with swirlies all over the paintwork (and didn’t even bother washing the alloys). How nice of them! I went back in and complained, the service manager came out and at first thought I was lying(!) and then after much furious protestation on my part started buffing away at the scratches with autoglym but said that getting them out would require machine polishing.

After six hours of hanging around I was so disgusted that I just vented my spleen and left. They will never be getting my business again in any shape or form.

Lesson – don’t get automatically suckered into a “service†plan because Nissan are clearly dreadful. I don’t really have a choice due to it being a PCP lease and still under warranty. Sure they smile a lot and try to be friendly but I’d rather they majored on competence than grins - they specialise in selling Micras to senile senior citizens after all. “High performance centre†doesn’t mean smarter or more efficient people working there....

I’ll be notifying West way & Nissan customer service about this but I also owe it to the community to know what to potentially expect from main dealers, although most of us probably know this all to well from the litany of cautionary tales posted here.

Argh!

P1 on a 370 can be done in under an hour, if you put your mind to it. Your trouble was that you didn't have it booked in for 8am, so it went straight to the back of the queue. :(

As for the scratches, this is another reason why I never let garages wash my cars.

You can take it anywhere though for servicing, you have that legal right within the original manufacturer warranty. You say PCP lease, if you actually mean a normal PCP and not PCH then I'm right. If you do mean a PCH then you're probably stuck with Nissan, sadly.

Mine took an hour at West Way Aldershot. Annoyingly I forgot to tell them not to wash it. Not sure why they bother as it looked dirtier than when it went in. They also put loads of white grease over the hinges, which seeped everywhere.

Not too bad though, and I did get to sit in a GTR, and work out I could afford one in 2030. :scare:

Mine was dirtier (and scratched!) after the wash so yes - why do they even bother? If I'd actually paid £200 for the P1 I'd be even angrier.

I'd rather not service the car myself - I have no ramp access (london apartment dweller) and zero mechanical skills. Changing air filters is the limit of my abilities.

Not sure re PCP/PCH but they threw in two "free" services with the deal and ultimately that is worth £400-500. I just didn't realise just how f*cking incompetent HPCs could be.

I usually specifically tell them not to do any so called 'valeting' for just this reason. I reckon the problem is that a lot of people who work for main dealerships don't care about cars. It's just a job that happened to be going when they were looking for one.

My other half had a terrible experience with Toyota recently.

- She gets an email offering a discount to fit an integrated sat nav...

- She books the car in giving the year, reg, everything...obvious it's a new type Aygo

- She takes the day off work and drops the car off first thing. They inspect the car and off she goes....

- Mid afternoon she gets a phone call - car is being worked on, ready soon...

- Late afternoon, another call - you can collect it now

- Gets to the service centre - "Oh we couldn't do it, we didn't have the right part in. The offer was only meant for older Aygos" (nothing in the email to say this).

She threw such a mighty strop that they ordered the part in and did it the next week.

Sorry, wasn't trying to say you should do the service yourself (I wouldn't), more that they were hugely dragging it out.

Do you have a balloon payment at the end?

I feel for OP, I also learnt years ago - NO to a valet. They never dry the car so it just looks sh$te. And the other thing I learnt was get it booked in as the first job of the day but obviously you need to bear in mind traffic. I'm usually in & out within a couple of hours for a minor service.
