Baby in passenger seat.

To those of you with knowledge... I have a Nissan 350z but recently have fell pregnant. Is there any way to deactivate the passenger airbags without voiding the insurance by tampering with fuse etc.

Do Nissan install on/ off switches for passenger to enable a child to ride along? Mine is a 2006 model and I'm a UK resident. On some forums there are those that say there is an automatic sensor that turns off the airbag when there is little weight in the seat but is this just a rumour?

Lastly if it is impossible and I'm forced to sell the best car in the world does anyone know of a 4/5 seater that has the aesthetics of a 350z?

Thanks can you get a Skyline in the UK? Is it the same as an infiniti G35? I did see another thread. Don't think there is a definitive answer and unfortunately can't risk it. Even Nissan customer services didn't know!

Will be another 18 years before I can get a 350 but on the plus side might be able to upgrade to a 370.

Out of interest what are the cons of buying an import if I were to go for the skyline? Is insurance a lot higher? Do parts cost more if something were to go wrong?

I think you would fall foul of insurance voidance if you tried this

Why do you think that?

Just tell them, if you feel so inclined. Personally, I'm not sure I'd bother. Plenty of vehicles come with switches to deactivate the airbags these days, you don't have to tell them every time you turn that off.

How many people replace their steering wheels with non-airbag ones? Again, no issues at all.

Thank you. :-)

If I disabled the airbags then on the off chance I had a serious accident... I as the driver might get seriously injured as I disabled the airbags and when insurance company looks into it they won't pay out to fix other parties car or my car or accident compensation due to modification?

I just find it strange that Nissan hasn't put a switch in the 350. My mum has a Nissan whereby you use the key fob to switch airbag on passenger side off or on.

I guess Nissan figured no one would put a baby in the 350 but as long as you're not zooming round the race track I don't see why you wouldn't. Cuts the consumer market down as now I'll have to sell up.

As far as I'm aware you can not fit a rear facing baby seat in any 350 or 370z.

I've read the handbooks on both.

You can fit a forward facing baby seat in both but only for infants not newborns.

The passenger seat must be fully back and upright.

There is no deactivating of the passenger airbag.

Congrats on pregnancy.

nothing - other than (misguided  ) assumption - your average insurer will use anything to not payout in the event of an accident :surrender:

As above the 350gt (skyline) is a good option, mostly autos though. I have had my toddler in the back of my old R33, it was a pretty outstanding car and every bit as good as my Zed but 4 seats and a decent boot. And the back end, well its iconic and as far as I am concerned one of the best looking rears I will ever see on a car! But hey its all opinion right. Came across this one the other day, looks very clean and nicely modded http://www.windmillautosltd.co.uk/used-cars/nissan-skyline-sandy-201503252049044 5zigen exhaust and Enkei wheels B)

There is a lot of myth and fear around imports but a lot of it is misguided, mostly by people that don't know any better. Just do your homework, check the history on the car, give it a good look over in terms of condition and generally you are in safe hands with a good car. Insurance wise, there is little in it nowadays especially if you go with a specialist insurer rather than your bog standard Admiral policy.

Thanks for the help guys. Feel more confident about getting an import if it comes to it. I may just swap cars with my partner for a year as then can keep the 350z.

On autotrader there is a Skyline that says it's 2009 but the number plate is 52. Would this be because it's an import, they don't do number plates like they do here?

I don't know whats available for babies in terms of car seats as I don't have any, but I don't see any reason why the passenger airbag would have to be deactivated with a forward facing seat as the airbag won't reach anywhere near it.
