Help with tyres please

Hope this is in the right section & please excuse my question if it's a little green

Yesterday through no fault on my part I ended up with a damaged front wheel/tyre see pic

Getting the wheel refurbed at my local TWS so that's dealt with but I have a tyre question....

Do you think this tyre now illegal or dangerous ?

I currently have falken 452 245 40 19 tyres but can't find any for sale I can only find falken 453 so could someone please explain the difference between them or would I be better off buying a matching pair of another brand, please be gentle I know very little about tyres, all suggestions welcome

From what I can see, I would change the tyre, I wouldn't take a chance.

I would personally change it on safety grounds.

Thanks guys, I thought the tyre would need replacing, just need to know the difference between what I'm currently running falken 452 and falken 453 which is all I can find on google can't find 452 anywhere so does this mean I'll need to get a pair so they're matching, if so any recommendations brands etc, thanks Will I'll PM him now

I know the "right" thing to do is to advise you to change the tyre etc, but in reality it's fine. It's only a little slice off about 10-15mm(?) across, don't waste your money.

The 453 is apparently an improved updated version of the 452 so will probably perform differently.

I wouldn't mix them on the same axle.

If you decide to change the tyre, then I would fit a matching pair of your choice.

I run 453's on the back and 452's on the front

I had the same thing a couple of weeks back; piece of steel ripped my tyre open on the motorway. I was running Uniroyal Rainsport 2s and now they only do Rainsport 3. Different tread pattern entirely so changed the pair as that was the universal advice - better safe than sorry I say... Bummer really as the Rainsport 2s had tons of tread left (still have the good one if anyone needs it!)

453's have replaced the 452's, like the 370z replaced the 350z

I tended to agree with that to be honest.

 

Then I was told that now that tyre has a weak spot and once under heavy load and in conditions where the tyre was once designed to perform, it is now compromised and if it fails is very likely to fail at that spot.

 

Up to you really I suppose.

 

I swapped out the offending tyre shortly after that and some scenario processing.

I had two MOT tyre issues. One I was told would fail as when the rubber was lifted you could see the canvas. The other was cut following an accident but it was not deep and passed its MOT.

Had a bit of a result or a reprieve

Just popped in to my local wheel/tyre specialist and the fitter gave it the ok said it shouldn't compromise safety as it was in his words cosmetic as it had only scalloped a thin piece of rubber from the bead so panic over for now, just got to book in at my local TWS. What a relief I didn't really want to shell out for tyres as I'm hoping to get some 20s ASAP

I think I saw that Blackcircle still have 452,s on stock. About £ 150 I believe.
