Quick survey, help needed quickly

Hi guys,

As some of you know I am a researcher by trade, I am sat in a brainstorm for a client at this very minute discussing the issues of driving and fuel usage for people who drive a fair amount of miles for a living (delivery drivers, trades, sales execs etc if I were to generalise) - I would imagine there are some people on here that fall into that category?

If you could answer a few questions (either post a reply here or PM me)

1. How far you drive per day on average as part of your job

2. What do you drive, what do you do

3. Best bit of about driving

4. Worst bits

5. Do you have admin to complete with your job

6. How many times do you fill up per week

7. Where else do you stop off during the day apart from a petrol station

8. Do you use the same place

9. Is filling up a pain

10. What is the biggest pain about filling up

11. Do you use BP, and if so what makes you come back

12. What would make you use BP more

13. What petrol station brand do you use most

Clearly I will incentivise with free rides in the Skyline at any meets ;) but any help greatly appreciated and going direct to a fuel companies strategy! Make a difference!

Cheers VERY much in advance...any responses in the next hour would be great.

On a side note, I don't use BP stations as I tend to find theyre overpriced compared to other local stations, and im sure its a "head thing" but the fuel never seem to get me as far. I drive out of my way to my local shell, and will hunt for them if im "on the road" and need to fill up. As to why? For absolutely no reason, I regard their fuel as superior to anything on the market. Maybe their close Ferrari partnership helps as im an avid F1 fan, I mean, there's got to be a reason Ferrari/Shell have been partners for so long right?

Just a few more...

1. What could petrol stations do better in terms of customer service? So, when filling up, paying, shopping, helping etc

2. What rewards should you get for using the same brand of petrol station for long periods of time, would you commit to using the same brand for say 3-6 months and putting in £x you got a decent reward over and above the rewards that are out there now?

Cheers once again - Col

Well Tesco's has started doing 2p off every litre of fuel for every £50 of shopping you spend a week.

This seems like a pretty decent promotion if I shopped at Tesco.

So the dedicated petrol companies could do something like:

  1. Loyalty Card
  2. Fill up with more than say 40 litres 3-4 times a month and recieve 2-5p off a litre for the next month.

Would make me loyal!

BP has Nectar and Shell has its Drivers card - do they do enough? Do you accumulate points quickly enough? Is it just points or do you want something else?

You get 2 points per litre at BP for its Ultimate. 500 points is £2.50 so therefore pretty much worthless!

Shell is better but you don't see the savings for quite a while and they are easy to forget about. If the savings were more structured you would be reminded to go back.

Cheers for all the responses, I have a second day with the client on Tuesday so any comments much appreciated - what can fuel providers do from a reward/technology perspective for people that fill up regularly?

Out in the sticks here, my nearest garage where I can get V-Power is about 8 miles away.

The Shell reward scheme imo is useless as you have to spend around £700 before you get £2.50 back......what a joke!

Its not worth the bother of getting the saver card swiped, so I don't bother.....I just fill up

The deal with Tesco Clubcard points seems much more rewarding but its 25 mile away!!

Using something like the dart tag to automatically recognise your car this could ensure a. You put the correct fuel in, b. Payment/invoicing could be sorted without need to enter kiosk ( like pay at pump only more sophisticated) this could be really useful for fleet purchases and would instantly feed back to fleet managers. And individuals could link it to credit/ debit card, this would encourage continued use of same franchise and if you want to make it more attractive the tag could also disable pump and send alert if car were reported as stolen - you can add so much functionality...

Rewards need to be more like necter which can be collected in a variety of storescand spent on things people actually want and need
