Stu_2424 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Just curious about people preferences on here. Foam vs Micro-fibre for applying polish, trim restorers or wax by hand? (No machine based answers ha) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Sy1441 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I use a sponge first then finish off with a microfibre. Quote
Stu_2424 Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 I use a sponge first then finish off with a microfibre. I presume you mean a MF cloth here rather than a MF pad? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Stu_2424 Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Thought so lol Any reason you choose a foam pad then over a MF? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Stu_2424 Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Damp sponge app So you apply the polish/wax to a damp foam to apply? Is this to reduce marring? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
GIXXERUK Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) Damp sponge app So you apply the polish/wax to a damp foam to apply? Is this to reduce marring? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Yes, less is more, it also makes it easier to buff, majority advise damp application Try it, warm water, squeeze the sponge til it's just damp Edited April 26, 2014 by GIXXERUK Quote

ilogikal1 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 It depends entirely on the product and the paint. But generally; Polish - depends on what correction I'm trying achieve with it, but then I rarely polish by hand these days anyway. Trim restorers - either a foam pad or a cotton make-up pads. Wax - either nothing or with a foam applicator (either a finger foam jobbie or a Megs type/circular foam jobbie). Quote
GIXXERUK Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) I've got a da and a rotary for correction, always top up hand though Mad but I find it therapeutic Edited April 26, 2014 by GIXXERUK 1 Quote
The Bounty Bar Kid Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Micro fibre for polish and trim restorer. Wax always with my hands. Quote

cmck13 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 The pros at the Megs seminars always wax by hand using foam applicators. Quote
Ricey Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I find micro applicators dont half suck up the product your using........causes a fair bit of wastage. They're also a bugger for picking up dirt and merrily dragging it along your newly prepared bodywork! Foam is definitely better. Quote
Jp606 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 For wax I use the high density foam applicators from Waxyshop and polish/glaze I use a microfibre applicator by hand. Quote
