i hate to sound a snob but id rather not put that in my zed. didn't stop me changing the oil in my alfa with halfords semi-synth last week though

yeah i'll put supermarket unleaded in my tank but... for some reason not halfords oil in my engine... maybe if i got very desperate!

I didn't read all the Pistonheads thread but there are some pretty knowledgeable people on there who seem to think it is a decent quality product and at that price it's useful for topping up, especially if like mine yours burns a fair bit, I had to put over 2 litres in it yesterday to get it back up to level!!!

5w30 is whats meant to be in the car. You can use 5w or 10w40 though

Check your rocker covers and spark plug holes for oil, 2 litres is rather alot to top up

Errr thanks Arran, sadly I expect it's just use, I didn't check the level since May, the previous owner telling me it didn't use oil between services. Idiot me, then reading the recent engine dying threads here prompted me to check, it was pretty low, a tad under the bottom marker. I wondered why it was tapping a little at the top when idling when hot!! Seems ok now, no unusual noises at all, I WAS worried I might have left it a bit late tho!!

Fingers crossed you caught it in time. 2 litres is a lot to top it up though. as above check all the plug tubes as that is a known leak hot spot. mine has a leak there so I've just had to buy a new cam cover. it might not all be down to burning it off

I used HalfFrauds oil in my son Golf for a few years, reckon that's why it lunched the piston rings recently.

 

They do Mobil fully synthetic at at cheap price as well, so will stick to that for the Golf.

 

Will only put the oil recommended by Nissan in my Zed.

I use the Mobil fully synthetic in my zed, it's good oil, I wouldn't put halfords oil in my mower though!

I'd be interested to know who makes the Halfords branded oil. As far as I know, there are only a handful of large oil companies, each producing their own products.

 

I was not aware that Halfords had their own oil refinery and R&D facility somewhere

I hope that's supermarket "Super" unleaded and not just the normal rubbish.

 

I only ever use Fuch's oil now.

The only thing halfords oil is good for is flushing out your old oil when you do an oil change

Have to agree, oil is not something to go budget on with a Zed along with fuel, tyres and pads/rotors in my book.

 

Put whatever cheap old tat you want anywhere else but spend the money on stuff that actually matters

Lot of misguided oil snobbery here, nothing wrong with the Halfords/comma oils, as long as the API rating and viscosity is correct, it will be fine, the manufactures recommendation goes by API rating not make.
