Buying/pricing advice please

I need a bit of advice.

I work away 6 month of the year and because of this I tend to buy a car in January and sell again in June.

The last 2 year ive had 350z's and I usually go for an import as I only own them for a short time and generally cost less but the thing is the first year I bought a 52 reg for £6500 (yellow 34kms) and could only get £5500 for it when I sold it, The second was a 53 reg (red 43kms) and struggled to get £5000 for that.

I cannot describe the insults and abuse I got when trying to sell them but for instance I got one person offer £3500 for the yellow, I replied saying that I was looking for a bit more than that and I get a reply of "well f@#k you then you dick head and others I don't really want to repeat.

Anyway I have started looking for another one now but the only ones I can find are 02/52 regs and they are asking £6500-£7000 :(

Has the market changed for zeds ? has their price gone up ?

Some people are just unbelievable! Sorry to hear people are being like that towards you..

Maybe the prices were cheaper before because it was a jdm import? And the ones your looking at now are uk spec?

Good luck with the search bud :)

Dont blame the car.....it's the dickhead on the other end of the phone!

You sold cheap if you ask me but all depends of age, milage, condition etc etc etc. you can get a 53 plate riggy shed for 5k or a minter for 7k. Minter with owner who needs to sell for 5k or @*!# box with owner who's happy to wait for 6k.

Just luck of the draw sometimes mate

Well this one i'll be keeping so that i don't have the hassle selling it.

I'm looking for an import zed as this time i want to strip it out and fit a cage and don't want to do that to a uk one

i've been promising myself that i'll do some trackdays for ages and next year im planning on getting plenty in :)

Wow, I've had the usual numptys offering me insulting amounts when I sell cars, but still I'm always pleasant in my responses and never had abuse back. How long have you had them on the classifieds for before you sell? Do you pay the asking price yourself?

I know it's stupid how the second hand car game works, list it for more than you want because everyone goes in lower, but I often find holding out for what you want generally works. Just something along then lines of "Nah sorry, I know what I want for it and to be honest I'm not desperate for the cash so I'd rather keep it than let it go for that". Maybe people just sense that you need a sale if you're off for 6 months and they can afford to play hard ball too.

Tbh I've probably sold them for less than they are worth just to stop the abusive comments, I can honestly say I've never had this kind of hassle with any other car.

The general theme is that because it's a jdm import it's crap and that means it's only worth half what I'm asking, the thing is I've had Hondas for years and in the honda scene jdm import is better, better spec more power etc so I don't really care if it's an import or not.

When I bought mine it was off a guy locally but I'd luckily found it through Pistonheads. He took me out in it, I had a look round, was in decent condition bar a crack in the front lip and a small groove in one of the front discs. Conversation pretty much went "Yeah looks really nice. Can't fault much of it really. How much were you wanting for it?" He then knocked £400 off the price he had it listed for which resulted in a fair price that I had in mind anyway and I shook his hand. Guess every Zed purchaser isn't an absolute gentleman like myself. :D

I find the abusive know all buyers quite amusing, i usually get the, whats your lowest you will take, give it to them and then you get, i can buy "whatever your selling for "x" £'s ", simply response, well stop wasting my time and yours and go and buy it then, or if you really want to play with them, just ask them to provide a link and if they do they can have it for the same price, never once got a link back.

My absolute bug bear though is, what will you take for CASH, the reply how else do you want to pay bottle tops usually results in an angry comment or two! I am not a shop or dealer and nor do i pay VAT so whats with the whole CASH thing, like its some sort of unique bargaining tool!!!

Hi mate,

I'm currently trying to sell my Z, so I feel your pain when it comes to selling time, you might be interested if your looking at 2002/2003 cars for 7K...

Mine is a 2006 with 48K on it and I have reduced it down to £6995 to try and sell before xmas. And it's in excellent condition.

It's breaking my heart that I even have to sell it, but I am losing so much money on it too :-( Its just a kick in the teeth.

Anyway, a here is the advert:

That does look like a really tidy example but I don't really want a silver one.

Good look with your sale though and don't let them get you down :)
