spursmaddave Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Just in case anyone else has the same strange problem.... If you buy cheap non Apple wall chargers they are absolutely fine for charging but it you use your phone while charging the screen jumps all over the place doing weird stuff I thought my phone was knackered, luckily I googled before making a tit of myself at the Apple shop "you DO use genuine Apple chargers and cables Sir?" Ekona Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I only use genuine stuff, but then I did buy all my leads and adaptors before there were any 3rd party ones available. Quote

FUG Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I got a 3m cable off ebay (not genuine) for charging and playing around with the phone still at same time without being restricted by short cable and have had no adverse effects on the phone?? Quote
Flex Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I only use genuine HTC equipment, never had an issue like this Quote

Exactly, I knew it's was in my hand, and also didn't flex if I attempted to bend it a little.. All together more solid than this.. Just feels cheap now the glass has gone.. :-/ Quote

Ekona Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Just been pointed at this link, excellent timing: http://www.arcfn.com/2012/10/a-dozen-usb-chargers-in-lab-apple-is.html?m=1 That would nicely demonstrate the difference. Quote
Peter10 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 My 4s had this issue, as did my older 3s it's almost like there's a small power surge and it goes nuts. Quote
rabbitstew Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 My missus finds that her iphone & ipad are very fussy over which cables and usb power adapters she uses. My samsungs on the other hand seem to work with any normal mini usb charger I plug in it. Quote

Do apple put some sort of chip in their chargers to make sure you can only use genuine ones? Quote
spursmaddave Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 I think it is just the quality of the product, seems like the iPhone needs a very steady powerful charger, the knock off ones charge ok but if you use your phone too while you charge its like its possessed Quote

spursmaddave Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Apple have definitely started to lose the plot since Jobs died.... Little things like the lightning connector adapter, why wasn't there one in the box with an iPhone 5 to connect with a 4 socket I'm sure their chinese factory could have pushed out a few million at 0.01p a piece Quote

Not just apple that is greedy but it seems to get away with it the most. I wouldn't mind if it was USB 3 and could charge your phone in like 20mins but it lightning brings nothing new of better really. I think they called it that as its the effect it has on your wallet.
