Few questions about servicing and other bits

Hi,guys!

Just changed front driver side disk ,pads and one piston..the guy told me that breaks will be a bit spongy for few weeks.every time I break I have to do it twice like: break than release and break again ,in this case car breaks properly.he explained it to me that it will be like that for a while, cause I changed only one disk...Is he wright or i have been bullshited?

the other thing I have squcking rear breaks, pads were changed by previous owner, and he was told by garage that they have to wear off slightly and noise will disappear. Also guy who changed my front disk told me that pads not brembos but some cheap ones, hence the noise.

Other thing which bother me slightly is a flashing airbag system indicator.previous owner said its fine, its just sensor playing up a bit cause of freezing weather! Is that the case or another bullshit???? He told me it was reset by garage twice, but still flashing...

You need to get your car looked at by a good independent smartish - if you flag up where you are located members can point you to someone suitable.

For a guy to agree that changing just one corner is OK immediately sounds a warning.

Please don't use the car in anger until you have had your brakes thoroughy checked :scare:

The guy is bull shitting you.

However you should never just swop out one rotor (disc) as they should be done in pairs.

Alex :)

He advised me to change both but I couldn't afford it! It would cost me fortune...He admitted that one side can be changed ,but not recommended. Not sure what to do now! I know jack @*!# about the cars...May be I should wait a bit and see how it goes,or someone can offer a helping hand..I based in LOndon,w9...but could travel

I paid £390 which includes: new front pads, new disk, second hand piston(as new one is about £400?) and some welding on exaust,as there was small hole which made it rattle...I don't know if ive been robbed or anything like that..But my gut tells me something is not right..Specially with the braking at the moment..Garage looks very well equipped and they in business for ages...

Forgot to mention..I actually seen worn disk...it was not smooth at all on the inside ...there was a gvoove and pad on that side was half worn..pads were changed by previous owner 1 month ago!!! He told me about the disk only because I had problem with exast ...only at that time he figure out that disk is worn..problem was that piston didnt work properly ,hence the damage to disk..

I provide pairs of decent new front rotors for £160.00

A set of 4 new front Brembo pads for £36.95

And a preowned calper piston for free

Should take no more than 1 hour to carry out the front brake job.

So certainly not a bank buster.

Alex. :)

When he quoted he told that one disk will cost £80....I think I Will have to wait and see ...if he bullshited me than I'll take it with him..But meanwhile if someone can give me a helping hand and check few things with my car I will gladly appreciate...will pay for inspection,if it's reasonable amount..

I'd you can't afford a pair of brake discs, my advice would be to sell the car and buy something more affordable.

No way...just bought the car...Money very tight at the moment, that's why...

park it up until you have more money for the right parts then. Scrimping on things like brakes puts yours and other peoples lives in danger. Not worth the risk

Can anyone recommend a good independent close to London W9?

There are a few south of London we (Surrey) types know of but I am struggling to help in your neck of the woods.

TGM at Fleet would be good, but quite a trek and if you need parts when they take a look it might mean leaving the car for parts.

Euro Car Parts are not far from you in Maida Vale and will do you trade prices for parts for your Z.

Just put your reg into Euro Car parts web site and it will tell you what you require and the cost.

Then try Gabriel at Greenham Motors N10 to fit them for you, tell him Will asked you to call him, he is 30mins

from you in Maida Vale. Good Luck.

I thought discs and pads were supplied in pairs. If this is true then either the garage did no work on your car or they are stuck with one disc and one set of pads that they will never sell on.

If you have to pump the brakes and considering that the caliper was replaced then it is likely that they have not been bled properly. However, just replacing one disc and one set of pads is most likely to result with unbalanced braking causing a pull to one side or the other.

As others have said, do not drive this car with anything other than the most care and only gentle braking. You could be putting yourself and other lives at risk.

Spoke to the guy who fitted the disk, set of pads and second hand caliper..I told him that IM not happy with the way breaking is..HE explained to me not to panic ...wait till disk wear off a bit.explained that cause the disk is new its, thicker than the other one and braking is not equal at the moment..I still wasn't happy, but agreed to wait few days and see if it will be a change in braking...if stays the same he will change the other one and probably put other caliper(not a brembo as it very expensive, and just paint it in the same colour as the other ones)...On the back I have new pads from prevoius owner and they squick when I break on low speed, does anybody knows why? Anyway i stay put for few days, will see if breaking will improove..Will update you with outcome...Thanks for support..

p.s. took car for a late drive tonight from Maida vale to Croydon..Car feels solid ,no pulling on one side when breaking, but still need to press it twice to have proper breaking...

This is such a fail.

And why are you asking questions like "why don't my brakes work" when you go and change just 1 disc. Does that not answer it? I would take some advice from the guys here and follow it, not from the cowboy who fitted your 1 disc because you couldn't afford to do it properly...

You have an utter cowboy there and he his messing with your life if you are saying you have to press the peddle twice :scare: :scare: and yes you have been bullshited big time

The squeaking rear pads are probably to do with the fact that either the shims on the back of the pads were not put back and/or were not copper greased. That in iteself is not such a big problem and in fact is a relatively common one. But it is the work to the brakes on one side at the front only and the fact you have to press the peddle twice to get them to work that is alarming.

Erm what?

So he replaced a caliper but it's not brembo and your going to paint it the same colour? You do realise if you have brembos you need to stick with brembos. Also worst case you could just get the caliper rebuilt.

Probably U didnt understand me correctly...there are all brembos there now ,but new disk! I wouldn't like to have other brakes other than Brembos myself...but what he is saying if what is there now wouldn't stabilise then he will go for a replacement of another disk...He suggested also(which I'm not happy) to replace the second hand brembo caliper he fitted to a new one ,not brembo make but good quality and respray to match brembo...I won't go that way,f##ck that..he have to make it right! I don't think they are cowboys ,but defenetelly haven't done job correctly on my car...
