jacques Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Hi, So I had a minor ding last night which caused the actuators under the hood to fire as part of the pedestrian safety mechanism and popped the hood. As I understand it from doing some reading these are one time use and will need to be replaced with a whole bunch of other things (front sensors, left and right hinges and the actuators themselves). As there is no other damage except for a slightly scuffed left front alloy this is rather annoying but oh well. I'm debating if I should put in an insurance claim or fix it myself. Does anyone have experience with these actuators and how much they cost to replace? Any input much appreciated! Cheers, Jacques Quote
Will370z Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Ummmmmm, from what ive read this is going to be rather expensive. A similar thing happened to a gtr owner where he touched the car in front and just scratched the front bumper and it triggered the pedestrian safety system. He had to have the brackets replaced and the ecu reset / replaced. It cost him.....wait for it £12,000 I really hope the quivalent system is cheaper in the 370. Quote

jacques Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 Will research - but the car can drive fine without them. There will be a light that comes on on the dash. If they are not present the car will not comply with the EU regulations, but not sure if that makes the car unroadworthy / not insured... The final bill looks to be close to £2.5k for the sensors, hinges and the rest of the stuff. Not impressed. Quote

Insurance could be another matter, but I can't see it being an issue assuming you're with a specialist. Quote

Cheers, Jacques Read somewhere its circa....can't recall where though! 4 K to put right.....Mark at Abbey can inhibit these things I believe.
