New spacers... fitting problem !!!

mrt

Recommended Posts

Received my new spacers on Wednesday after a three week wait from MW Tech and went to have them fitted today.

After fitting the fronts and one rear, the final one had completely the wrong size bolts and the wheel nuts wouldn,t fit !!!

So, feeling a little annoyed, the whole lot had to be removed... aaaargh !

Awaiting a speedy replacement.

One important lesson i have learned... don,t buy anything from anyone who doesn,t have at least a contact number and address.

Martin is well know and we have all met him a few times. Unfortunately everybody can make mistakes and somebody's gonna complain but I will vouch for Martin being a genuine guy and would never intentionally cause problems with people. I think this would have been his supplier rather than him.

tbh I was more than happy with the spacers I received from him, I guess you have just been unlucky.

I will be PM'ing him again soon with another order for spacers, just need to see if I can squeeze 35mm on the rear after my arches are rolled or settle for 30mm lol.

Undoubtably, his supplier was at fault here because the bolts on the rears had different i.d. numbers on the heads.

Very frustrating as i,m planning a Europe trip next week and wanted these fitted before i leave.

I,m in the service industry so i generally make sure to post good comments when the service and quality i receive is exceptional.

The reverse is of course applicable.

Much as Martin is well vouched for I do know what you mean......I've bought a couple of things off tinterweb where the supplier has had no contact number or address - it doesn't inspire confidence.

At least Martin is known to many of the Jock contingent though.

Freebird... 35mm... might look like a dune buggy ! Better get those arches rolling.

Ricey ... good to hear i have company in my views about buying from suppliers without contact details. It,s far too easy to ignore customers when you only provide e mail addresses.

I understand that Martin has good feedback but reputations have to be maintained... i,ve found that it,s relatively easy to attract new customers but ten times more difficult to get them back if they become disgruntled.

My recent purchase and fitment of a Cobbra exhaust and Berks went perfectly and i have written very positive feedback about both the suppliers and the fitters. They will be receiving my orders for a lot more parts as i continue to modify the car.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I got my finger burnt to some degree with a diesel tuning chip for my old lancer.

250 quid which wasn't 'cheap' but certainly wasnt how much they are supposed to be .....what a piece of crap. Literally did noting......company had nothing but a 'contact us' email facility and never responded.

Quick enough to take my money though!

After p.m.s texts,e mails with no response what are you talking about?

Martin is sorting it out and i have not said i won,t deal with him again.

I make the point about contact details because i had to do my own research before i finally found a telephone number to speak to the guy. When i did eventually make contact he was apologetic for the manufacturing delay and i received the good a week later.

The quality defect was discovered this morning after the fitters discovered the wrong size studs had been used. There is a new batch of spacers on stock and Martin is arranging for the faulty one to be collected when the replacement one is delivered.

One tip for anyone fitting spacers... try one of you wheel nuts on all the spacer studs before fitting.

My point is that you have come on to slate him for selling you a faulty product (you later admit it was his supplier at fault & not Martin).

Have you asked him to sort it out? if so is he sorting it out?

If he is, then I fail to see the issue & the need for your post

Not everyone has a flashy website to lure you in to buy shiny bits, sometimes people trade on here as a sideline to proper jobs & can't always reply to you instantly.

You also say

After p.m.s texts,e mails with no response what are you talking about?

Yet you only found out this morning they didn't fit.

Everyone makes mistakes, the way the deal with it says everything you need to know about the supplier.

If I cried on here every time a trader made a mistake, I'd have more posts than Sarnie

just to clear a few things up here... as its got a bit messy un-neccessarily without me even getting a chance to sort what i said i would earlier today since its sunday

a quick run down on the spacers for everyones benefit

atleast 2 years ago now, the spacers i first started suppling to members of the forum were advertised on the basis of allowing up to 7 days if work was busy and orders were high ( but were still often completed and sent in 2-3 ), at that time i only traded on a handful of forums and had little local reputation except through friends and family word of mouth. since business has progressively got better, i now trade on many forums, get plenty word of mouth, and have established myself locally a lot more too. i have had to change this time to up to 14 days ( yet still quite often had this done in less than 7 ) as during a busy phase the backlog can become huge. i am a single man business, as is the cnc machine shop i use.

orders are reasonably busy right now and have been for the last couple of weeks for machined work iv needed done. what really messed things up was the unfortunate illness the lad had with 10 days off work and 1 week of that in hospital. in the 2-3 years plus that i have known him, he has never once been off work or closed except for public holidays, very reliable, and more recently, instead of me taking the stock myself ( unless local customers ), he has been able to post it out direct for me, cutting down the 1-2 days postal time. this has been a great help because there are always people that want their stuff quickly, despite knowing they are not being taken from a large stockroom with vast amounts of ready spacers. for atleast 6 months i have been able to operate by filling in the order for him and providing him with the postal details, with the confidence of knowing he will take care of them and post. works out great for me.

now that everyone knows the basic run down of the spacers, i will clear up the situation between myself and roger

upon receiving your initial PM/email a week or two ago asking about the whereabouts of your spacers, i admit on this occasion that i should have replied instantly by the end of that day after trying to get in contact with the machinist with no answer. at this stage i had no idea he was sick and in hospital and i carried on trying to contact him everyday. due to me forgetting to message you back to let you know the situation, i received your other emails and messages where i can understand your frustration at first not knowing exactly when you were going to receive them but that was out of my hands, i hadnt heard back from the machinist at that stage and i would let you know when i hear something. typically, i did hear back when he got out of hospital next day and i was informed that the backlog ( at that time 6 orders ) of spacers would be taken care of in a few days when he was back in shop. at this stage i messaged you back again as i said i would and let you know the situation and that he would be back in and they would be done as soon as possible.

as it happens, as a favour to me, the poor lad who only got back to work on the wednesday or thursday if my memory serves me correct, should have had an easy return to work and a chance to enjoy his bank holiday weekend. he stayed in on saturday and what i didnt know til later at night next day when he texted me, most of sunday too! he got yours done on monday, booked in with courier on tuesday, and they were with you wednesday last week. personally, i thought this was excellent turnaround given the work he would have to catch up with from the various industries as well as mine.

its just typical of the incredable bad luck this particular order has had, that the products you received on wednesday have got this bolt issue on just one spacer, but as we discussed earlier this afternoon on the phone i have a quick and painless solution. I cant do anything about it until monday morning though.

im quite suprised to see this thread to be honest - A. the times of the posts being from 7pm ( on a sunday night ) onwards, and B. the content. especially given its title and the fact i thought we knew what was happening following our phonecall this afternoon - New spacers, fitting problem.... we know what the problem is mate.. and i said id get right on it on monday morning and get back to you. it does come across as being written in bad taste which i dont feel is fair. im not even getting a chance to do what i have to do tomorrow...

solution is simple, as i discussed earlier today, i am expecting a batch of 20mm and 25mm spacers to be sent to me tomorrow, as soon as they arrive you are going to get your 25mm rears sent straight away in the post...the only thing stopping this from happening now would be a continuation of bad luck and a RAF missile strike takes the courier van out of the game! :D

I understand your frustrated, honestly i do, believe me, i have waited and waited for things before, ended up getting damaged goods, wrong goods, faulty goods, the lot, i should have a tshirt.

there has been a very genuine reason here at the heart of all this, and it is someone being in hospital, someone crucial in this case for the flow of business. the 10 days he was off really mixed things up. but i believe he has done a great job with catching up.

appologies again for being quiet in the first few days, i genuinely forgot i hadnt messaged you back. since then i was under the impression contact beween us was good and we were both on same page. also, appologies for not answering your 4 or 5 missed calls this morning. i was at knockhill for a few hours for the time attack and i left my phone in the car. and technically i dont work saturday sunday :)

i am a very genuine and nice guy as the people who know me and have met me away from forum life. i WILL sort this for you but give me a chance. i value my customers a lot and always try my best for them. im still quite young approaching 27, im learning how to deal with things better all the time as business continues or if any problems arise.

appologies also to everyone for any spelling/grammar mistakes above that may have been included in this post. i have had a long day and only just settling down for bed after building a new pc, now... to get my 3 or 4 hours sleep!

It's a known fact that bad news travels at 10x the speed of good.

Negative comments tend to be made in the heat of the moment and seldom thought out.

And car forums can be a nasty weapon for the release of pent up frustration.

Quite often the person leaving the comments shoots themselves in the foot as a result.

As both sides of the story slowly emerge.

Its the end results that count, and if given the chance to put things right I am sure all concerned will have a happy ending.

It is a shame as there are a few incidents on here at the moment that lead to unpleasant reading and is quite off putting.

I would like to think if anyone had issues with my work they would have the decency to come to me 1st.

We are afterall supposed to be mature adults are we not!

replacement rear pair was sent earlier today and will be with customer tomorrow exactly as discussed on sunday afternoon.

as said in my previous post, the only thing stopping delivery now is a RAF missile strike on the van
