philw99 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Think i best start posting then if i've got to post 5 things before they don't have to be approved. Just got a 350z today, loving it so far. wish the weather was better so i could clean it one problem i've had so far is the windows keep steaming up, really bad have to drive with the air con on, any ideas why anyone? water leak? can't find any damp, will have a good look tomorrow. Chris`I Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Post up a welcome thread mate, easy way to 5 posts I seem to remember my 350z used to steam up a bit when the weather went colder, just keep the aircon on all the time and it keeps it sorted. There is quite a common leak problem steming from blockages in a drain pipe, but cant for the live of me remember when it dumps the water. Someone less forgetful will post up where to look I'm sure. Oh and Quote
4RE Leather Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Same problem here. I have a 2009 Zed. Just keep the climate control on all the time and set the temp. I have mine at 22 constant. Peter Quote
philw99 Posted October 9, 2011 Author Posted October 9, 2011 Ok, nice one for your replys nothing to worry about then I'll try and be at the next meet, not sure what that is yet? Also planning a track day on Sat 5th November @Rockingham so got to prepare a standard 350z for that, starting with the brakes. Going for decent braded hose's with new fluid, also so decent engine oil. That will be fine for a first time out on track right? It's my first time with my own car so I'll be taking it easy, just don't want to cook anything. Quote

Oh and +1 Yeah i just leave mine on auto all year round and just change the temp to suit. Quote
Lexx Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Split this from the "5 post minimum" thread before it got way off topic. Quote
spursmaddave Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 My Zed steams up on cold days so I leave the air con on pretty much all the time, its better for the system anyway otherwise you turn it on after months and it smells like a tramps socks Quote
John tarantula Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 glad to see it isn't just my car. hasn't steamed up for a while but did a lot when i first got it! and welcome! Quote
R35LEE Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Check how well your door glass is seating in the seals as they can be adjusted. Also you could have some water locked in your carpet. Lift the carpet on the drivers footwell to check. I had a friends car in that had the drivers side foam insert under the carpet filled with water Quote
rabbitstew Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 To be honest, this is normal for all cars in my experience. This happens on my zed, my old golf and the missus`s 307. So, I just leave the air con on all year around (unless ive got the roof down). Quote
Neilp Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 The biggest problem is the cabin size. The volume of air is small in comparison to other cars. What is happening is, due to the outside temps dropping, the surface area of the window is cool. The air in the cabin is full of moisture from your breath, perspiration etc. The air is touching the cold window causing it to drop below it's dew point and this is causing the moisture to condense onto the windows. It will clear eventually if you can get the cabin temp up and keep a high fan rate. The a/c effectively acts as a dehumidifier all year round which removes moisture from outside air coming into the cabin before reheating to heat the cabin. You will notice if you have air con on and turn off, the car will fog up quickly and smell a bit weird. This is due to the moisture on the air con coil getting carried into the cabin by the hot air once it turns off. It's all a bit weird if you don't understand air psychrometrics. Fact is air con could/should be used all year round due to low ambient temps and high saturation of the air. Quote

Haha now an hvac design technician It's hard to describe in understandable terms lol. I'm unsure of the exact setup in zed but that's the basic operating principles lol. Quote
