just had to say goodbye to the zed.....

Well got the zed back and have had mixed results. The quality of the spray job on the back bumper is top notch but there is a noticeable colour difference between the back bumper and the rear arch panels. The boot lid matched pretty well however. Im pretty sure this is not the fault of the guys at RS and more that the paintwork is almost 7 years old. I think there may also have been some work done to at least one of the arches previous to me getting the car. It is going back in though in 3 weeks time to get the new paintwork blended into the old so that the difference is not noticeable. I've no doubts that after this it will be fine and Andy there seems like a top bloke (I think he was trying to save me money by seeing what result could be had by not doing the blend) Anyway, I got a geat deal on the work so far plus a great price for the additional blending when it goes back in so im sure all will be groovy after its next visit. The guys also touched up loads of other little annoying bits on the paintwork for me :teeth:

Will keep you posted after the next visit but a thumbs up for RS so far

Has anyone else had any experience of noticeable differences between old and new paint?

Had this with mine when the skirts and the spoiler went on, took it back and they blended it in nicely, make sure you ask them to make sure the petrol filler flap doesn't stick out like a sore thumb though, I've been told that because it's not metal the colours can look different, mine is Azure Blue.

Sounds like you've found a pretty good bodyshop, I'm sure it'll be fine :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Always tough to match new and old paint. Sometimes its easier to respray the whole car.

When my missus crashed her old car I had to send it back to the bodyshop 3 times before they got the paintwork looking right. In the end they managed to get the right match, but even then in certain lights or angles you could see it had been repainted.

Was told a few years ago by a paint specialist that because they have to use different primer on metal and plastic you cannot get an exact paint match, dont know if thats still the case now tho.If you park a car under a street light you can see the difference in plastic and metal.
