Mine is the same absolutely crap!

I have had it adjusted a few times but it goes back pretty quick, I have no confidence in it and always leave the car in gear now just in case

The handbrake should work within 5 clicks, so you can tighten the nut to suit....

The handbook actually specifies the correct working range as 6 to 7 clicks, with a pulling force of 196N (20kg, 44 lb).

If you over tighten you run the risk of binding when the brakes heat up. :rtfm:;)

I did my hand brake the other day. It's Quite simple really :D

1. Jack up Car and put on axle stands.

2. Chock up the front wheels, put in neutral and release the handbrake.

3. Remove the small rubber grommet and using a flat screw driver rotate star wheel on the

adjuster assembly till the drum doesn't rotate any more.

4. Rotate the adjuster assembly back the opposite way till the drum rotates just freely without binding.

5. Repeat on the other side.

6. Now check the handbrake lever for travel. If it is more than 6/7 clicks.

7. The handbrake lever will need to be adjusted. Remove the ashtray. Insert a deep socket and rotate the adjustment nut till desired height is obtained

  • 5 months later...

Thought I would try this thread as it concerns "Handbrakes" I was told by a couple of the members that there is a chap you makes gear and handbrake levers on this site?

I did ask 3-4 times over the last week and apart from a few jokes, no one seems to be able to help, and I can't find him in the adverts.

So if someone could actually help and link me to him I would be obliged.

This is quite important as I can't stand the site of this rubbish bit of ugly black plastic car any longer.

Thanks in advance.

Peter
