Very touristy though. Big lake, sulphur, active geothermal geisers, bubbling mud, oooh and Luge. It's about 2.5-3hours drive south of Auckland.http://www.rotorua.co.nz/ http://www.rotorua.nz.com/

We've got Luge, Snowplanet (indoor snow) and Go-Karts right beside each other. And the fastest race track in NZ. 300kms down the back straight for the really powerful suckers with massive brakes.
