matth76 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Hi Just seen this "genuine" Nismo gear knob http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/nism ... 19811.html Just wondered if you can get this or something like in the UK and if anyone has any pics of it their car? I'm trying to keep the car looking stock but getting a geniune or replica stock 350z gear knob is proving difficult and expensive. A bit of extra titanium might make the interior look good (especially on the earlier interior without the extra aluminium round the gear stick and air con buttons). Thanks for any help and pics. BulletMagnet Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 afaik, JDM Performance are selling the OEM gearknob for a little over £100 (I checked at local Nissan dealer and they sell them for £195, and yes, I nearly fainted on the spot) JDM Performance also sell the Nismo Titanium one for £74 http://www.jdmperformance.co.uk/item_de ... odID=59399 Quote

RB84 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Hey there, I haven't taken any interior pics yet myself but this is now my car and the Nismo gear knob is in a couple of these pics; http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/788358.htm Cheers, Rich Quote
neodc Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 i got my carbon and titanium one for 30 quid each as well. Quote
matth76 Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Cheers for all the replies. There seem to be different "genuine" Nismo gear knobs around - the JDM Performance one and Vivid Racing links above show very nice ones but they are both different. Also, while looking on the JDM website I found this - a Nissan 350z gear shifter plate http://www.jdmperformance.co.uk/item_de ... odID=57768 ...will this "stick" on to the top of a stock gear knob? Quote
clarkie34 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 No the shift pattern sticks on the trim around the gaitor. Quote
From A to Zed Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Hi buddy, I have the Nismo in carbon, I paid about 50-60 pounds for mine from the Z store. I'm really pleased with mine, the shift feels so much better than the stock set-up; http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr20 ... 030693.jpg Matt Quote
Adriank Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I am quite tempted by one of the longer 6MT titanium Nismo gearknobs too, but £100 odd is a lot of money for a lump of metal! Quote
From A to Zed Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Hey Adrian, Honestly, you'll be amazed by how much better the shift feels. I'm really chuffed with mine, it's one of my favourite mods. Matt Quote
matth76 Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Looks good - thanks for the pics. Quote
treadmill Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 That does look surprisingly good actually... Quote
rtbiscuit Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 i like the titanium one, not the gt titanium, but the standard titanium, like said above it is nearly £100, but its the only one that i can tell that still has a shift pattern on the top of it. Quote

Which one are you referring to that has the shift pattern on it and that you like? Which one do you guys reckon would be the closest match to the aluminium door handles? When I fitted an aftermarket gearknob to one of my old cars it didn't quite fit properly over the gear stick (only probably by half a mm) but was enough to make it "wobble" very slightly. Do the nismo titanium ones secure tightly over the gear stick? Quote
From A to Zed Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Hi Matt, The Nismo screws on the standard thread where the original would sit. Fit is perfect unlike the momo I had on my previous car. Be VERY careful as the original is on v.tight and you need a good wrench / set of mole grips to hold the actual shaft before you try to twist off your original gear knob. There is a write up in the guides section. Regards, Matt1! Quote
matth76 Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Cheers Matt. Does anyone have any more pics of the Nismo gearknob (http://www.jdmperformance.co.uk/item_detail.php?prodID=59399) in a pre 2006 350 with black leather seats so I can see what it looks like in the interior? I'm erring to the JDM one in the link as it looks good and has a curved top. Quote
Adriank Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 The one JDM have is the short GT one, it doesnt have a shift pattern on it. Never seen one in the flesh, if you get it post up pics! Quote
matth76 Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 By the way why is it you say be very careful un-doing the original? Can it damage the gearbox if I yank too hard? Also, an important question does it invalidate a manufacturer's extended warranty? For example if I get the crunching gears will they use the excuse that I have used non-standard parts and not agree to do the work? Quote
mbs Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Yes it could do some damage and if your worried about the warranty, put the original back on before you take it in Quote
